Then it was time to polish. I did stage 1 and 2 of the polishing process. Looks so good. The sun was hitting that side of the garage right when I finished up. So, I opened the garage doors to get some good shots of the sun hitting the paint.

From this angle you can see how smooth it came out and see that even with respraying the door it still matches the QTR.

I love this angle. The sun really shows off that pearl in the paint.

Look at that pearl in the door. Wow! Yes, the reflection is pretty cool too LMAO!

I got the side stripe and rocker panel polished too. Man, I cannot tell you guys how happy I am with these results.

More of that great looking pearl..... This Laser Red is such a great looking red.

Tried to get a good angle of the whole driver's side.

Another attempt at the side angle.

Because I basically had to respray the door and QTR there was some overspray in the door jam. So, I gave it a light sanding and polished in here too. Looks great now. I don't think anyone would be able to tell I had to do a respray.

Here is the reflection in the rear portion of my QTR panel. Holy crap! It looks like a mirror..... (y)

The paint just looks wet. Good job Glenn.
Thank you Bob! Yeah that sanding process of addiing the 2000 grit wet really helped. Got the clear a little more flat. Then that dry sanding really set up the polishing process.

I'm really starting to learn the ins and outs of this painting process. And I still have the final step of the polishing process to do.

I think the sun hitting the paint really helped show the results. I have the passenger door and taillight panel to do. Then I can unmask it and start some of the reassembly process.

Thanks again Bob! Appreciate your feedback brother!

Whoa! That last photo definitely looks like a mirror. That is beyond excellent, Glenn. You must now be getting really excited about getting it finished. Get really for a ton of compliments, oohs and ahhs.

Thank you Bob! Very kind of you to say. I actually am getting excited Bob. The one thing I'm really looking forward to is placing my fenders on the car to see how well they match now.

Funny you mention oohs and ahhs, I brought my wife in to the garage after I was done. I asked her what she thought and she said it looked very nice. Really shinny. I told her that I thought I did just as good as a body shop and she said you did better. I thought that was nice of her to say.

I really can't wait to take this thing to it's first outing and see what people think when they see it in person. I know not everyone is a Ford or Mustang person, but hopefully people can appreciate the work that has gone into this project.

I have received a ton of great compliments from the SVTP members. It's greatly appreciated my friends!!!

Okay,

Got my passenger door cut and buffed today.

I didn't take a lot of photos. You guys have seen more than enough of this process LMAO.

So, here is just before and after.

This is the door with the orange peel in it.

And here is after stage 2 of the polishing process. Now, I need to cut and buff the taillight panels area. Once that's done I'll polish the whole car with stage 3 of the polishing process and then I'll unmask the car and put it back on the ground.

I can only imagine the delight you have with the way your car is turning out, it doesn't just look great it looks fantastic.

Thank you Grabber! Really appreciate you always commenting on my build.

Yeah, I was trying to stay positive with all the set backs. But, now that I'm reaching the end of the re-paint of the body I must say it came out better than I expected. This re-paint has been a long road, with plenty of set backs, but I feel with my perseverance it has been well worth it. Not only because of the result, but also because of what I have learned.

I'm not done painting yet though. Still need to paint the radiator cover, rear bumper and headlight buckets. Hopefully those items don't give me as many problems (fingers crossed LOL).

Thanks again brother!

I know this sounds weird, but I'm looking forward to your next project, where you can apply all that you learned this time and move the bar in a different way.

Looking amazing man!
Love seeing that color pop too!
I can only imagine it feels even better when you know you did it yourself.
Now keep it going!

Hello 598. Right now I have no clue what my next big project will be. I have several I'm thinking of:

1. Take my 03 Terminator vert apart and re-paint it a cool color (it's silver metallic currently).

2. Help my brother re-paint his 68 Camaro.

3. Buy a Factory 5 MK4 kit and build one. I like Superformance better, but I'm not sure if their Cobra's come in kit form. Haven't done a lot of research on this yet. All I know is I would love to have a Shelby Cobra Replica.....

4. I wouldn't mind having a 65 Mustang Fastback, but they are just too expensive now. So, I have been thinking about buying a basket case coupe and converting it to a fastback. Kind of like this:

Then again after spending almost 2 years on this car and spending all this money on it I'm not sure if another big project is in my future. Can't keep them all and I'm not that well off where I can keep cars and then build another one to the level I would want LOL.

So, we will see and thank you for your comment. It is interesting to think about what might be next.

Thank you J! I am very proud of what I have been able to accomplish with this build. For someone who never worked a plasma cutter before, never welded before, never converted carburetor to fuel injection before, never did body work before (i.e. working with filler) and never painted a whole car before I feel a great sense of accomplishment.

I had my wife come in to the garage today and had her look at the paint job. I asked her what she thought of the work I have done. She said I have done an amazing job for learning how to do some of these things by watching YouTube videos and watching how the pros do it on TV (i.e. I got the idea to use a laser level on my project from watching those TV shows).

It also makes me feel good with all the positive feedback I get from SVTP members. Being car guys you guys know where the bar should be and to know you guys feel I'm hitting the mark is amazing.

So, thank you very much for your comments. And rest assured I will keep this going until it is completed. I may have to take a couple steps backwards, LOL, but I'll get it finished up some time this year..... (y)

What's your projected/estimated finish time frame?

Hey Bob. To tell you the truth I do not know. I wanted to finish this by Sep of 2021. However, with my wheels taking 6 to 8 weeks to come in and the fact I decided to paint the whole car once I seen my re-painted fenders didn't match has put me WAY behind that self inflicted completion date LOL.

Right now I need to finish up the paint process with a few small parts remaining and the hood (yes sir, I've decided the hood needs to be re-painted too LOL). Then I need to finish assembling the car. Lastly, I need to take it to a local performance shop to have it professionally tuned (I can't get it to run right just using the mini handheld programmer that came with the ECU). The shop I want to use is always busy, but the guy who works their is a childhood friend of my brothers and this guy knows what he is doing. So, I cannot schedule an appointment until my car is finished and ready to be transported to his shop.

With everything left to do my guess would be by June of this year. Then again I originally said Sep 2021 and look at the state the car is in now LMAO!!!

I'm not very good at meeting deadlines apparently LOL.........

You reminded me Bob. Sometimes it's fun to go back and see where I started.

I already posted this video, but with all the painting I have been doing I almost forgot how much metal work I did to this car BEFORE getting to the painting....

Man, a lot of hours invested in this car........

This one too showing the engine bay painting process....

Fun to go back through those videos. Hope your June, 2022 comes true. There was/is so much stuff to do that setting a date goal has to be tough. I'll for sure keep following your progress.

Thank you Bob. Yeah, the body re-paint was not planned during my original predicted completion date of Sep 2021.

Thank you for following my build and for always providing feedback. I'll keep posting until it's finished sir (y).

Ok, I finally finished the entire thread to here. Beautiful work.

I am impatiently waiting for you to get the beast running properly now ;)

I started the thread on VMF where I have been for motivation and support of my current sickness, 68 coupe. Doing full floors and metal remove / replace at the moment.

Hello Everyone,

Well here is the my third video creation. I made one showing the metal work and one showing the painting of the engine bay. This one shows the painting process of the body.

I will make a final video showing the entire process once the car is completed.

You guys know my music style choice LOL.

Hopefully you guys think it's cool. I like it :p .
