DiabloSport Makes Major Investment in EPA Compliant Performance Tuning

For the past few months you guys have been constantly reminded that the car modding hobby is under serious threat from the EPA. By now, if you don’t know the need for action and vigilance I’m not sure what rock you may have been hiding under. We here at SVTP have been trying to encourage everyone to pressure their representatives to supporting the SEMA Sponsored RPM Act. However, others in the aftermarket are not waiting around for some legislative protection that may never come. The team over at Diablo Sport (a division of Holley Performance) in Sanford, FL have been busy investing in the future.

Anyone in the industry can tell you that SuperFlow is the premier name in dyno equipment.

Diablo was a pioneer in handheld tuning in the Ford market, and they intend to be a huge part of the Ford Performance aftermarket in the future. To that end, they have invested in a full vehicle emissions lab setup. In conjunction with an in-ground Superflow AWD Chassis Dyno they have purchased, installed, and calibrated a full array of advanced exhaust emissions testing equipment. This will allow them to ensure that every calibration they release lives up to the standards set forth in the regulatory framework. Check out our tour vid for a complete overview:

Big thanks to @Diablo Mike for showing us around.

Like it or not, an increased presence from the EPA is something the performance aftermarket industry is going to be dealing with for the foreseeable future. The Federal Government and regulatory state effectively has unlimited resources, and has only ever seen growth in our lifetimes. It’s going to take action on all fronts to ensure our hobby survives. That includes both action on the grassroots level to support politicians who share your values/interests and sites like SVTP that are not beholden to a massive publicly traded tech conglomerate that would as soon step on you as look at you; and companies like Diablo to invest significant amounts of capital today to ensure we can keep modding in the future.

You're looking at over $1,000,000 invested here to insure performance tuning for New Fords is available well into the future.

A brand-new state-of-the-art facility designed to produce tuning calibrations that significantly increase performance while not running afoul of the law is a thing that everyone in the go-fast lifestyle should support. I’d like to hear what you guys think about this impressive built of engineering Diablo has put forth. I recently picked up a brand new Predator II tuner for a non-Ford project I’ve been working on. IMO, Diablo is doing the work that needs to be done to make sure we can keep tuning into the future. That’s not even to mention the massive developments that have been coming out of Holley lately, but that’s a story for another time. But rest assured, we’ll keep you up to date on all the goings-on here on SVTP.

Consider this a life support machine for your hobby.

This puppy can handle 8,000 pounds per roller, and measure 2,500HP.

It takes quite a few specialized gasses for the emissions testing equipment to do its job.

This Coyote powered F-150 was in Diablo' shop for some testing and fine tuning.

There happens to be a VMP Performance Oden supercharger lurking under the hood of this truck.

This TVS blower from VMP adds a whole new level of fun to this short wheel-base truck.

The larger throttle body and massive VMP by aFe Power CAI free up a ton of power on this positive displacement blower.

The shop I use will no longer tune any car that has any emissions related equipment removed.

Good on them to make the investments needed to keep performance tuning alive for the foreseeable future.

Unfortunately only the big dogs will have the funds to make these investments. I'm sure a lot of smaller performance shops are very worried about their futures.

It will be big dawg only club for stock ECU tuning, absolutely.

Then you will have the big dawg/boutique aftermarket ECU options since they're not considered as "defeating" emissions devices.

You may want to rethink your "defeat device" definition.

One of our businesses is Cannabis testing to make sure that what is sold to the public is within the legal limits. The regulations set in place for this seem to be nearly as strict as those...lol

The Fed guidelines are probably about as clear.

Currently, replacement ECU/Harnesses are purely designed for offroad applications being universal outside of a specific engine design.

When and if they are designed to perfectly replace OEM systems with little to no work is when I would worry.

What 'off-road exemption' are you talking about? Is a screw driver a defeat device? Check out this FAQ:
