Most investors are amateurs and don't have a clue on how the stock market "works". Their loss. I was there once and learned expensive lessons.

No one has a real clue where the stock market will go next. You can't change you're trading pattern AFTER a flash crash has occurred. It's too late. Some of you're posts are informative but this thread start is counter productive to any investor (especially the ones who don't know any better) and without real merit.

I ain't worried about a flash crash, with our tech, those will probably come more often. I'm worried about the real deal people jumping out of buildings crash.

I disagree, maybe seeing a post in a thread will trigger guy to dig in deeper to what is going on in the investment world. Ignorance isn't bliss.

You worry too much shorty, or are intent on creating worry over nothing. First you say you a trader "can change trading behavior" to protect his investments and now you say you are worried about a "jumping out of buildings" crash. Which is it?

Either way, i have already given the solution with a stop-loss. Therefore, I declare I am ignorant and worry-free. Just pointing out your "Leverage" metric "chicken little the sky is falling" argument holds very little water, if any.

The jumping out of buildings trader were the ones that said, don't worry.

Well they were dumb and should have read this:

How Do I Place a Stop-loss Order?

Now you can hunt for you're next metric that points to the end of the world, but if people implement the above, it will not matter anyways.

You should try it - going long is a lot less stressful and easier way to make money than being a panic creating shorty looking for down metrics in a record bull market.

I don't think leverage is as big of a risk as Ukraine getting invaded by the Ruskies.
Unless the Ukraine can somehow become a member of NATO in the next 30 days (which would be wrong), they are going to be reunited with the other regions such as Crimea that Russia "annexed" but under the flag of the Russian Federation as they get rolled... so not if, just when for Ukraine now.

To take Crimea, the Russians basically showed up with an army and said "This is ours" and "what are you going to do about it?" to which the Ukrainians' answered with a few small skirmishes that weren't anything impressive, and over time since the Russians took it '14, enthusiasm from "Ukrainians" in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine to fight their "occupiers" petered out fairly quick (many in the east and Crimea want to be part of Russia not so much east of the Volga. So after taking Crimea and a cunk off the eastern borders' both were met with little of any real resistance aside stern letters from any country that could intervene militarily. That pretty much assured Russia there will not be much military/paramilitary resistance if they just take it all. The Ukrainians look like they will just go with it, as their government is just trying to find places to rule from exile. The Russians crave access to a warm water port like a teenage boy drunk in hormones, and Ukraine is like that ex girlfriend that is drunk and thinking getting back together might not be so bad.

175k mech troops with metric shit tons of fuel trucks along the borders makes me fairly confident they are not going to stop until they hit the Black sea or meet up with their Marine comrades that came from the south in Kiev before breaking out to the west to take the slice that rests north of Moldova and south of Belarus until they get to Poland. That is if they push for that portion of Ukraine... they would likely face much stiffer resistance here as there are far less people that like Russia, whereas in Crimea and in the east it's over 50%. But the closer you get to the rest of Europe the numbers drop to single digits. They have spetsnaz or "little green men" (as the Ukrainians call them as they wear no insignias, or makings on Russian fatigues) embedded in the east of Ukraine, and I haven't heard of them in the west. Perhaps Russia has learned some lessons from our invasion of Iraq and is figuring leaving a land locked sliver for now where troops would be more likely to face insurrection from the locals might be better left alone as they'd have all the territory between Russia and the black sea.
But this isn't the same war and I don't see Putin as a guy that would leave anything that close that could be used as a staging post against him/Russia by foreign fighters and alphabet agency's of the west.

I don't doubt Ukraine will be reunited with the motherland. I simply think the market will respond negatively when it happens.

The US Fed has demonstrated that they will print their way out of any crisis. During the next one, I fully expect them to load B52's full of cash and carpet bomb cities with it. All that money has to go somewhere, and that "somewhere" will be the stock market.

The 1930's were so terrible because the money supply actually shrunk drastically. If they would have just started printing money, the market would have recovered in 6-12 months just like it does today.

There's only 1 thing that will bring the whole system down quickly and that's the world adopting a different reserve currency. Until then we'll have minor and some major market corrections and a slow bleed out of the lower and middle class due to inflation.

Remember the times, the USA had just watched several European countries turn their currency into toilet paper. Turning the printing presses on was not gonna happen.

True enough, I forgot the US dollar wasn't the reserve currency until 1944.

This is SUCH a great point!!!
If you sold the peak of the bubble in 2008... you missed out on over 210% gains..

If you sold on the way down... you missed OVER 520% gains.

Let alone the tax implications ....uhhhgh.

At least Russia cares about Russians. Bought and paid for western "leaders" have demonstrated over and over that they do not care about the citizens of their nations. Which is why they are promoting open borders so they can destroy nationalism. Putin is a million times the leader the imposters in the west are who betray their nations on a daily basis.

Putin cares about Putin, power and recreating the CCCP eastern europe occupation starting with a Ukraine land grab. Above post dead on about crimea. Putin couldn't care less about the actual Russian people.

Hard to believe someone is so far right side as to back Putin.

He cares about the Russians in the sense that he does not want a bunch of brown foreigners running around Moscow as has been happening in Britain, France, Sweden etc. He still wants Russia to be Russian. Because he himself is Russian. Duh! That's not rocket science and hard to understand.

You say Putin cares about Putin. Well Cobracide cares about Cobracide. And Quad cares about Quad. Do you and I eat for the health of others? No we eat and enjoy food because it's what we want and need. It is normal to care about yourself. It's needed to survive.

Unless you were wiped out, as tens of millions were. Or, you were so wealthy you didn't have to touch wealth that had cratered, not many people in that category.

When I say "Putin cares about Putin" it is analogous to Putin cares more about staying in power over the betterment of his own country. As a leader, the country and the people should come first - even at the cost of ego. For Putin an other Authoritarian leaders - it is them that are most important, not the country or people or rights or anything else really. I don't think anyone with a choice would want to live that way under Putin's rule.

Closing borders keeps out the trash, but it also stymies innovation via the brightest of minds wanting to immigrate as well. If America can actually address this issue properly, our nation can benefit from immigration as we have in the past - with the creme of the crop engineers and scientist wanting to come here as in the past. Unfortunately, this has faded. China graduates multiple times the number of engineers the US does in a single year. Soon they will surpass the US in most technologies.

Unfortunately, we are part of the generation that will witness the rise of the east and the fall of the west (and US). In a country that makes nothing but lawyers and real estate agents, how can it continue to succeed against an engineering and manufacturing powerhouse that mimics the US circa 1945?

China graduates a LOT of people, but their culture does not reward the nail that sticks up like the USA does. Unless the USA taxes the nail into oblivion like the EU.

This is changing, chinese are now leading in AI and close to passing us in satellite tech, already having laser linked sats and quantum encryption in testing. Just some of the few fields. Also, surpassing our naval deployment very quickly. It is more than enough for the chinese to steal what they cannot innovate. That has been the obvious trend for decades and no one can stop it. Western companies so willing to get into the chinese market that they sign away patents and data to the chinese. US world influence shrinks while chinese influence grows. Detect a trend here? Amazingly - built on mostly US dollars. We have created our own worst enemy.

If the dems seize complete control, yes the USA will be taxed into oblivion and be EU welfare state part 2. Agreed. We cannot let this happen.

Meanwhile, Biden so spooked from his Afgan debacle - won't commit much of anything to help Ukraine, I'd be sending them F-16s, Patriots and Abrams tanks like yesterday.
