I have been following along and always can’t wait to see your progress. That car is going to be amazing. Good work sir. Top notch.

Hello Todd! I was wondering if you were still following along with your move and everything going on with you. Thank you for your very kind words.

You know it's funny you mention how my car is going to come out. Yesterday a friend of mine who works in the body shop industry stopped by. He was looking at the car and telling me that the paint job should come out just fine in my garage since I'm being clean and laying down plastic.

I told him I'm not looking for a show car, but something really nice. He started laughing and I was like what??? He said, oh it's going to be a show car.

I thought that was pretty cool he said that since he paints cars for a living and knows what it takes to take a car to the next level.

Thanks again Todd. Appreciate you keeping up with my build my friend!

Those were deserved and honest comments from your friend. The work is show quality. The painting, I am certain, will be show quality. Think about back in the day of emerging custom body/paint work. They didn't have the paint booths we see today. They did what you're doing in your garage. And, it worked!

I recall a guy on here from Florida doing a paint job outside on a ranger and it looked very high quality. Your friend was right. I hope to see this car in person one day. I will have to catch you at a show in the future. I like the pic of the wheel well too, new lines and raptor liner looking fresh and clean.

Thank you Bob! Very nice to know you agree with my buddies comment and that you feel my work/build is show quality. I agree with you on how things were done back in the. I remember when I was a kid, we used to go to my Dad's cousins house. He used to build cars in his garage and they would come out great (from what I remember).

Damn, he painted the car outside? WOW....LOL....

I don't know if you remember me mentioning that my daughter lives in Dallas and I may take the car out there for a major car show one day. If I ever do that I "WILL" post up and let everyone know so those who may want to see the car in person will have a chance.

My step daughter lives in Phoenix so I may take the car out there as well. I normally go to a huge Mustang show out in San Diego. So, there should be a few chances for people who may want to see this car in person.

Thank you Grabber! Man I can always count on you for a good laugh.

Yes, I have been going over my plan of attack over and over again. Even I'm tired of my OCD at this point LMAO!!! I even went to the paint shop during lunch today to get a little more paint. I've already used a lot on the engine bay, fenders, some body parts and the trunk jam. I have to paint the car, some other body parts (grill stuff, headlight buckets, rear bumper, etc.) the radiator cover and the door jams. So, I just want to ensure I have enough material to finish the job.

As of right now the only show I would like to go to on the East coast is Mustang week at Myrtle beach. However, I have heard the cops are cracking down and basically being a pain in the _ _ _.... Not sure I want to deal with that kind of crack down. I get it, don't drive like an _ _ _, but pulling people over for revving the engine or small infractions like that seems ridiculous. I have NOT experienced this as I've never been to that show, just read stuff on the internet. And if it's on the internet it must be true LMAO!!!

Another one I would consider going to is the one American Muscle puts on in PA. So, I'll never say never on going to the East coast......

Well it's been years since I've done the Myrtle Beach Mustang week, but it's my understanding that this year is supposed to be the last one. Never done the AR one though I've heard its good. Another one to consider is the All Ford show in Carlisle PA.

LOL, figures. As soon as I'm ready to go it gets canceled....

I've heard of the Carlisle event. I actually have a couple of Mustang diecast I bought off eBay from that show. I'll have to look into the specifics (i.e. entry fee, dates, etc.).

Last one? Really? I hadn't heard that. If it's true, a LOT of Mustang owners are going to be just a bit upset/disappointed.

EDIT: I did find one post on another forum where MW staff said they were doing one more MW in July of 2022. And that would be the final one. Can anyone else confirm that?

It's the last one. A few of us are working on getting out there. I told the wife it's going to be our vacation next year.

Okay everyone.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!

Don't ask me how or when, but I got my car painted this week. Let's just say I took time "after" work LMAO!!!!

First thing I did was get my work area set up. I went with a dual air hose set up to keep from having to drag a hose around the car.

The less I have to drag a hose around the car the less of a chance I have of accidentally touching the car.

Then I went around the car and used etching primer to cover areas where bare metal was showing.

The next thing I did was set up my lighting.

Then I started to spray (yes, I did use a paint suit and face mask/respirator for painting as I knew there would be plenty of fumes even though I had 4 box fans ventilating my garage).

Now, I'm not one to show only the good. As we all know S#!T happens. For some reason on the passenger QTR where I made the repair the new paint had a chemical reaction to the old paint. Time to go back to the drawing board and fix this.

I had to wait for the paint to dry, sand it back down, spray new primer, wait for it to dry, sand it and then paint it again.

It was a 2 hour repair.... So, needless to say I was put way behind the power curve.

After I finished my repair it was time to get back to painting the basecoat. I love base coat because it is so easy to work with. Any problems you sand them out, finish with 1000 grit and then spray again LOL. No problem.

Here is the repair area. Now we are cooking LOL. This is the first coat, so if you look at the bottom of the repair area you can see a shadow line between the old color and the grey primer. Few more coats and I should have coverage.

Time to spray the whole car now....

Okay, after my first coat I went around the car with a sun gun (very bright light) to check for areas where I needed to focus on more coverage.

While doing that I found this. Guess I got a little over zealous with the paint LOL.

Time to sand it out and finish it with 1000 grit and then respray.

Okay, good to go now.

I ended up going with 3 coats and then one orientation coat. Basically an orientation coat is sprayed with the gun a little further away to let the pearl or metallics lay down even.

Okay, after I let it dry for about 45 minuets it was time to unmask the stripes.

I had to do some VERY small touch ups, but overall they came out very crisp. I am VERY happy with how it's coming out so far.

This is my very first time painting a whole car. Mistakes are expected, but they can be fixed. So, I'm stoked so far......

Now it's time to put the icing on the cake LOL.

I ended up putting 3 coats of clear (1 x light coat and 2 x medium wet coats).

Again, I'm not going to say I'm perfect or flawless. I had 2 runs. But, again these can be cut and buffed out later. It's hard to see but its at the front/top of the side air scoop.

There is also a run on the driver's QTR panel.
