Older guys: What do you still want to do?

This was inspired by Adower's thread on starting to get rid of stuff.

So: guys and gals in the 50-and-up range: What things in life do you still want to do? Business, politics, something in the arts? Just plans for retirement and watching the sunset from the porch? What is it?

I'd like to hit it big with my writing. It'd be a gas to no end to see my main work made into a movie. Not holding my breath on the writing hitting it big or seeing any of my stories on the big screen; but at the same time, not stopping working on it, either.

I'd like to build a Factory Five Daytona Coupe. And make it electric. Or with a V-12. I can go either way, on that one.

I'd like to go state to state through the USA with a camera, on back roads only, and publish it as a picture book, "Take the Long Way, and Walk It."

That's the big stuff. Really? If I can work in my current job until I'm 75, I'll be happy. X-ray repair is a profession that lends itself to the older guy, as we've usually figured out how not to kill ourselves playing with ionizing radiation and high voltage. I'm having a blast in the current job, doing important stuff, and making pretty good money at it. I'd work past 75, if they'd let me, I like this job so much.

I would like to visit Poland and the way this Country is going maybe stay there permanently.
I hope it does not come to that.
I have never been one to travel, just for the sake of traveling, although I have been to about 30 different States and 3 Provinces in Canadia.
I love to work on cars. Been doing it my whole life. I would love to have a fully equipped shop and learn to Tig weld. I would love an opportunity to fabricate race car components with something more than a Mig welder, I bench vice, a hammer, a die grinder and some drill bits. I actually have more tools than that, but having real fabricating tools (like Kindig It's shop lol) would be cool.
I would like to be able to race at more events within a 1-2 day travel window.
A real goal is to get the current racecar 1/2 a second quicker in the 1/8th. That would be bad ass.
I have been fortunate to be able to do what I love for a living and to work on and drive some real cool cars, like the 3rd GT350 made in 1965. I have assembled and driven Superformance Cobra's, Daytona Coupes and GT40's. Lots of Hot Rods, Street Rods and Muscle Cars, Porches, Lotus, and other sports cars.

Interesting that you posted this. 62, and was gonna go another 3 or so years for the Medicare. Told my wife today, I'm pretty much over working where I do. I make major bank, but really don't need it anymore. I'm at the burn out stage. I'm sure I would need to train someone, but that someone would need basic knowledge of what I do. Which I would do. I'm also the kind of person that can't watch TV all day. Maybe a part time at the local hardware store sounds great.

My mom says she wants to go back all the time. She came over when she was about 35 years old. My uncle and aunt talked her into coming here.
She experienced all the socialism crap, so she knows firsthand about it and told me and my brother that she doesn't want that for anyone.

I turn 50 in the early months next year.
I think about the retirement stage all the time. Not happening until I'm 67 though.
I think about the stuff that I have an appreciate it, but I can downsize or "throw away" a lot of stuff. Even thinking about buying a new truck, but not wanting the payment and thinking mostly that the economy is gonna go down soon.
Not sure what I would do when I retire. I'm pretty sure I want to move to Florida though. Maybe work part time at a mindless job or gym, so I get a free membership. Maybe volunteer some time to a dog shelter?

I have two years before I hit 70 at that point retirement becomes a day to day evaluation. I will wake up one day, not feel like going to work and call my boss and say "I'm retired effective 5 minutes ago.

I would like to visit Scottland and Wales but short of winning the lottery that is not likely to happen. Still have a couple of road trips I want to take and a trip to Alaska, after that is done sit back and sleep.

I'm 72 now. I likely won't stop working until I'm 75. I don't want to work my regular job beyond that. My part-time business will continue since it provides a very flexible schedule for me. I'd like to do some short vacations...unknown destinations. My goal is simple. Enjoy each and every day.

Given that my current job takes 14 hours out of my day, 5 days a week, I am looking forward to "me time" when I retire in 6 years.

I would like to exercise/lift weights regularly and get more than 4-5 hours of sleep.

My wife wants us to get an RV and travel. I think it could be fun.

I guess I'm a little less ambitious than some of you. I'm really just looking forward to spending more time in our backyard (pool and hot tub), driving my cars more, going to car shows, and not being on a daily schedule.

I'm only 40 but already planning

By 55 I intend to have property outside of any semblance of civilization in Wyoming. A shop, a small house and a few dogs.
I just want to be left alone.

I just wanted to add after 20 years in the military and post military divorce but staying near my kids, I've never lived where I wanted to live. So that's the goal.

This is a great question, thanks for asking it. I always tell driving students to look way far ahead, all the way through the corner, and your brain will get you there. And here I am, not doing it. Thanks for the prompt.

I'm 66 and retired, didn't want to be but due to some health concerns had to be. I am going to finish my project car now that I have the time. Once that is done, Wife is an Australian citizen so we are going to move there. Living near the beach in the tropics has always been on our "to do" list.
