Most guys that are against the DCT haven't driven the new 500 to see how good it is. Like you I was against the DCT. After hearing how good it was I made the decision to sell my 350R and order 1. It's been about a year since I took delivery of my 2020 and I can honestly say I don't miss the manual. I also had a couple of 13/14 500's prior, and I can honestly say the new 500 is all around a better car.
Not that I am against it, I just prefer the manual. I was just in and drove my buddies C8 vette. Fun, fast, crazy grip 0-60, just boring moving my fingers on the steering wheel to shift. I had the same feeling ( kinda lol) when I hopped back in my Fusion and paddled shifted on the way home. Maybe I'm just getting old.

So today I went to the drag strip and ran 10.70@132 with my bone stock DCT GT500 . I don’t remember any 2013-2014 GT500’s with the holy grail manual transmission running running in the 10’s. But hey the 6 speed manual is so much better. Did the 2013-2014‘s run faster on road corse?
The computer did a good job.

You did very little.

I'm dying here.

How is it possible that people are still complaining about the DCT in these cars? They are LIGHTYEARS ahead of any 6-speed offered in ANY Ford vehicle.

It's a game changer.

By saying "I really just like to manually pull the lever and push on the far left pedal, so I prefer a manual", you're really saying, "I'm stuck in 90s where manuals were faster, I'm ok with being slower now."

I'm pulling the trigger on a air shift paddle conversion for my racecar. Fast is fast.

anyone that talks about how dct is "boring" and how the new GT500 should have been a manual, or have that option etc. was never a buyer to begin with so kind of a moot point. This car is brilliant period. Manual not required.

I love reading these discussions. I had a long talk with the Palm Beach Dyno crew about this too. I bought my 350R last year because it has a manual. I get tempted on occasion to move up to the GT500 after going to the drag strip. Then I drive my 350 home and think why would I get rid of this car.

Kind of a stretch to make that generalization….

Unless what you were really trying to say is those “buyers” “couldn’t afford one anyway”.

The ol poors argument lmao.

I got rid of my R for a new 500. The R was a great car, but I found myself wanting more power. Haven't missed the R since getting the 500

LOL I can see how what I said could fit in that box but not really what I meant. However there's a slight truth to it however unintended.

What I mean is if you want a manual, there's a GT350 option.

The DCT isn't taking anything away from the "joy" like most people say (which happen to be people that have no intention on buying nor have driven one)

Many folks disagree. Rowing gears, manipulating the clutch to induce a sweeping drift, nailing a shift with perfection, are all part of an enhanced driving experience for some.

The DCT certainly takes away from the "joys" i mention above, because they simply dont exist in the new 500.

Some will prefer the manual trans no matter what. It is one of the reasons a 13/14 500 with under 5k miles is commanding over $70k in many circumstances.

Is the 2020 GT500 a better car? Absolutely its a better car. It is LEAGUES away from any Mustang Ford has ever built. The magic of the new 500 is the sum of its parts, not just the DCT--although that is a huge piece of the puzzle.

Me personally? I see it both ways. I have a 1000hp 10r80 Mustang that i love to death. It is nuts and an absolute blast to drive--certainly the most fun car Ive ever owned.

But it's missing something if Im honest..............

that's kind of my point, buy it and enjoy it, or buy a manual an enjoy that, there are options. I just got rid of my 14 and don't miss that car at all, if anything I miss my terminator more than the 14. Might be different for some folks but its a mustang, and again if you want manual get a GT350, or a MACH 1 and slap a blower on it if you want more power. My point here is that there are options within the mustang line up to get just what you want.

It wasn't going to be a good business decision to have the GT500 be a manual and it is what it is. I'm personally just happy we get this which in my opinion is kind of the "last hurrah" of the ICE muscle era before it all goes silent with electric vehicles.

Yep, agree on all of that for sure.

I hear that a lot about guys who own/owned 03/04 Cobras. Ive actually never driven one. Closest Ive come is an 03 c5 z06--that was one hell of a driver's car.
