Why not get a Torco and 93 octane tune along with your E85 tune? You will not loose that much on a good tune for that octane (see numbers in my signature) and it can be shipped to you in a 5 gallon container. Then maybe have a third tune for just 93 octane as your valet mode.

Thanks for the heads up
Filling a 55 gallon drum at a gas station isn't legal and neither is transporting it on the highway or storing it on your property in most cities.

If you own a truck, a slip tank is a legal, safe solution but you're only suppose to fill them at bulk fueling stations that have the proper grounding wire for the slip tank (to prevent static sparks). Sometimes you can buy a used slip tank for next to nothing.

Again I came from 93 to e85. The boost is way different with a 2.9 Whipple.

It's a 100hp increase at least the amount of boost changes considerably.

If you don't understand 16 ilbs of boost to mid 20's your missing out. Plus a 2.9 was ment to run more boost than a 2.3 or smaller blowers.

Sure is easy to spot the people that have actually run E85.....and those that haven't lol

Good luck OP....I admire your tenacity on this. It's obviously worth it.

This. The 2.9 is a dog on low boost.

My 19lb 9* 92 octane tune(2v heads so excuse the timing) compared to my 23lb 17* tune aren't even in the same world.

What kind of tank and is it legal to fill at a station

From a little online searching, It varies on state how much fuel you can transport.

Below applies to Massachusetts.

"(5) Any flammable or combustible liquid transported by other than cargo tank, portable tank or transfer tank shall be transported in approved containers, substantialmetal drums or other similar containers, with all openings tightly closed, and in an upright and secured postition. Gasoline or other flammable petroleum product may be transported without a permit in any open vehicle or in a compartment of a closed vehicle separated from the passengers, in total quantity not to exceed 21 gallons, provided such flammable liquid is contained in approved containers with no individual container exceeding seven gallons capacity. Combustible liquids may be transported without a permit in any open vehicle or in the compartment of a closed vehicle separated from the passengers, in total quantity not to exceed 55 gallons, provided such combustible liquid is contained in approved containers, substantialmetal drums or other similar containers. Approved containers shall include those built to DOT standards, listed and labeled by a NRTL, or approved by the State Fire Marshal."

I run 22# boost with 93 and Torco and am safe to 25#. I don't think 742 RWHP is that low for a street car an there is no E85 anywhere near me. It is just a way to increase octane to increase boost.

That really varies by platform. I'm not going to trust torco with the amount of power I'm trying to push out of a platform that doesn't like to make power.

Suit yourself, I have been running it since 2010 that way. I have a vampire knock control system and it has never gone off.

This is difficult to compare because your sig says ported heads, custom cams and almost 10/1 compression. That's a far cry from a 100% factory untouched 8.5/1

I think bottom line, if you did have E85....you would get very close to 800 wheel

I use 48 oz per tank on the race tune up to 25#. A five gallon pail is $250-$300 shipped to your door. So, $300 divided by 640 oz = 47 cents per oz. 48 oz X .47 = $22.56 per fill up. Divide that by 15 gallons in the tank and the cost is $1.50 extra per gallon over the cost of 93. I don't have to transport or store fuel and just have to pour it from the container to 24 oz cans.

and REGARDLESS

The E85 would be MUCH cheaper? i'm also confused on this argument. E85 by me is <$2 gallon, always tests 75% or better

@OP call VP racing or Ignite and see what they could ship you a 55 gallon drum of the good stuff for.

Again I wasn't comparing what you use I'm comparing the octane of e85 compared to getting torco to the same octane level that I get.

E85 is >105 octane
92 octane + 14 additional points from torco means I need 128oz per tank
20 gallons at fill up is normal.

So a pail is $325 shipped. 5 fill ups per can.
That makes each tank of fuel $142.
I currently spend $89 a tank for e85.
That means even if I had to drive it would have to be pretty far to cover the extra $60 difference pee tank.

But alas I get e85 local. It's always e80+ and requires no mixing.

Well, I am still making almost 750 RWHP with all emissions equipment functional at 22.5 lbs boost on 93 octane and 48 oz Torco at close to 102 octane. You could do similar if you wanted. E85 tests closer to 102 depending on how it is tested.

The OP asked for suggestions for what to do when E85 is far away. I gave a reasonable solution and you seem unwilling to accept it as valid. The closest E85 to me is 40 miles and it is on a turnpike. That made E85 a nonstarter for me when I built this engine. This was my reasonable alternative. I am sorry you take it as offensive.

man you're missing it

Your 'solution' is having the car retuned for Pump Gas (sketch at this boost / power level) OR Pump Gas + Torco, which a lot of tuners wont do due to liability. I get guys calling me every day on doing aggressive setups on Hellcats, on Torco. Not worth the liability to me, cuz one time homie doesnt put Torco in it, and you're banking on that octane, yikes.

And it's just that, YOUR reasonable alternative, not so reasonable for OP.
