Is it possible to beat these modern muscle cars with our aging cobras? Obviously not a stock cobra but a stock hellcat? What kind of power will that require? Rolling 40 mph and up? Drag racing will come down to tires and drivers launch but we still put up a fight right?

They seem to go 123-129mph in the 1/4 stock so you're going to want to go 130....

So 550rwhp minimum? Be warned that they will go 180-190mph no problem, between the power and gearing they are animals after 100mph

Anything is possible with enough parts and money. I actually haven't run one yet. Though I'm curious how I'd do with the Whipple now.

Same. Would be interesting. If it's close, they've got the advantage of an auto though they're overall much heavier.

I've only run the 392 cars from a roll and those drop back pretty quickly especially now that I hook in second at 40mph.

One of my friends has a Scat Pack and on my pump gas tune I walked him pretty good from a roll. Another has an 07 Charger SRT8 with a 125 shot and on E85 I walked him from a roll and a dig.

As mentioned above, your probably going to need in the neighborhood of 525-550whp to pull a stock Hellcat with a good driver. You're also going to need to drive the car like you stole it lol.

I think Malcolm was in the 800rwhp range back then and if I remember right it wasn't even close.

I have a 16’ A8 Hellcat which I have not taken to the track yet, but the typical bone stock times for the autos are 10.80 to 11.20 with drag radials. It’s a heavy car but comes from the factory with a big twin screw supercharger and about 645 RWHP.

The typical 500 RWHP Cobra will run about the same with a real good driver and tires. I was running 10.80’s with my 03’ at 3,600 LB race weight.

Where it gets crazy is when the Hellcat guys throw an upper pulley and a tune on their A8 cars. These mods are resulting in low 10’s and a bunch of guys have hit high 9’s with good launch technique. Modern technology....

Well my buddy had one a few years ago and they are Fast from a roll. My old s550 6r80 with 630whp couldn't pull away from his charger hellcat 40-140. I dont see how an Eaton cobra could pull one if he properly down shifted. Just my two cents a drag race is whoever hooks out of the hole.

Just a side note here, but my 550 wheel ported Eaton car went 130-132 all day long. It was on ethanol and ran well, but that would cover most stock hellcats trap speed wise. The guy above said 538 whp, so I'd say he definitely could have outrun some of them.
Also went 10.7s, so it would have been fun to run one on drag radials. I did lose to an 800whp hellcat at the track though. He was going 10.30s that day and I was going 10.80s. He and I raced 3 or 4 times that day. Good runs as I would get him on the tree and he would edge me out up top.

I hear you. Race weight differential and driving the Cobra like you stole it! My race weight in my sold 03' is about 900 lbs less than the Hellcats. The auto Hellcats hook very well with drag radials once you get the process down. Low 1.5's is typical.

I got walked by one from 30-120, I make 100 less WHP than that, had my phone in my shifting hand and have a vert!

630whp should have whooped on him no problem!

Nope we raced a lot of times it took me a smaller pulley and 650whp to walk away from him. Keep this in mind also the s550 6r80 and terminator are similar weight especially my vert. The 6r80 will outshift the cobra everytime even with the best driver. Similar weight cars one being auto revved to 7-7500 its gonna win every time with similar power. Same thing in the hellcat a10. She's a big girl but moves out quick on a roll. I'm speaking only of rolls and I've seen/done a lot of them.

Yeah, a 6r80 is hard to beat with a manual comparing two cars otherwise equal power wise.

IMO something must have been up with your car, a 630whp 6r80 car should be well into the 10's @ 130+. Enough to walk away from any stock hellcat, unless your buddies car wasn't stock.

My buddy has a 2016 hellcat with a manual. I think it's basically stock.

We haven't messed around yet.

Mine is 2.3 tvs, 21lbs, e70/E85, headers..
