Anyone running big Brakes On our cars? I'm currently looking for wheels and almost forgot that I want to be able to run a BBK set up. For those of you that know, what is something to keep in mind when sourcing wheels? Backspace? Offset? I'm looking for used but may have to pull the trigger on a new set from ccw or weld. I want 10" in the front and 12" in the back. I do know 14" rotors requires a 18" wheel hence why I'm contemplating a 19" wheel for clearance of 15" rotors and big calipers? Any info is appreciated. Thank you kindly!

Backspacing and offset aren't going to tell you anything about clearing big brakes. For a 10in front wheel stick to a +10 up to a +22 offset and you should be fine.

What you need to look for / pay attention to is the face/bore of the wheel being cut for a BBK. A thicker bore wheel push the spokes of the wheel out further from the caliper. A face cut for caliper clearance may have the spokes slightly angled outward.

For example, WELD wheels have several different face cut styles to accommodate bigger brakes......if you go on Summit/Jegs and read the descriptions you will see this.

Thank you sir

When you say face/bore of the wheel being cut you are referring to the "lip" of the wheel correct? I mean that would have a determing factor into how much or how little "lip" you can achieve correct?

StopTech makes a kit for these cars. It is probably the best possible option for the Cobra.

StopTech Trophy Big Brake Kits are bred for racing.

They include forged, lightweight StopTech STR calipers, floating, slotted AeroRotors, stainless steel brake lines, and race engineered caliper brackets. Easily identifiable by their unique shape and finish, StopTech Trophy Big Brake Kit components feature a MIL-spec hard-anodizing on the Trophy STR calipers and AeroHats that is impervious to color change or fading at extreme race temperatures.

StopTech Trophy Kits feature ultra-high performance STR lightweight forged calipers in six-piston, four-piston or two-piston configurations. Based on the highly praised StopTech ST-60, ST-40, and ST-22 calipers, STR calipers feature the same metallurgy and design, but are engineered to provide up to a 20-percent reduction in weight without sacrificing stiffness or performance.

There are two types of StopTech Trophy Big Brake Kits available – one for the track and the other for the street.

All StopTech Trophy Big Brake Kits include:

  • Patented StopTech AeroRotors for optimized airflow
  • Patented, billet 7075 aluminum AeroHats to further increase airflow
  • Forged StopTech STR calipers with patented bolt-in bridge for ultimate stiffness
  • StopTech stainless steel brake lines
  • Race engineered caliper brackets
  • Hard-anodized finish on calipers and hats that resists fading and discoloration

Nothing to do with the lip. Again, look at jegs/summit theyll have photos to visualize for you different types of face cuts.

My baer extreme set up.
They were a huge improvement in my braking.

2.9 whipple on e85 runing about 700 plus rwhp

The stock brakes were scary at that power level.
they fade to quickly even with racing pads, rotors ss brake lines.

This baer kit took care of the problem.

14" Brembo GT set up here, same kit FTBR sells. I would say this kit rivals any 14" set up out there. The face of the wheel needs to be cut for big brakes. If you know your kit (baer, brembo, stop tech, wilwood ect...) email the wheel manufacture the caliper drawings and dimensions and they can help you out with fitment.
FYI: 18x9 and 18x11 is pretty standard with these cars. 18x10 up front will be tight.

Ive got Baer's 6p brake kit on my Cobra with the 18'' stockers, absolute perfect setup. Heres a pic i took years ago for a gun group i was in, only one i have on my computer at the moment that shows most of it.

That does look perfect. And the black calipers with red lettering goes really nice with the gray paint.

Definitely stick with the preferred 18" wheels. You're not going to be as happy with the look of the 19" wheels on a Terminator.

Brixton forged cm5r they came out with a new wheel and I was one of the first to try it out. Got a decent deal for what type of wheel they are. But still had to work overtime. Lol

Wheels are awesome much lighter than my 17 stockers and 275 tires.

Again not all 19s look silly on a new edge. I like mine and it fills the wheel well more.
what wheels are those?

I just went through all this last year picking brakes and wheels. Hopefully this helps someone

As for wheels
Take a look at this picture 18s left and 19s on the right. This helped me decided to go 19 against what everyone say!!!! Lol

In my opinion.. Again the right wheel 19s look great. Not all 19s look bad. .

I have seen tf Chicane in 19 on new edge and the were hideous. But 18s were probably the nicest wheel for our cars. If Steve didn't stop making them I would have them on my car.

As for brakes
If your doing big brakes and are thinking brembo 6p 14 then you need 19s. To make them fit. They have been outta stock for a while.... And basically left me with no lip up front since they are huge!!! I wanted. A lip so this were out.

The brembo 14 - 4 piston isn't avaible anymore from ftbr. Which is what most people had. They sell a gt 4p kit but it's 3500 dollars. But will fit under 18 or 19 with a custom wheel. It sticks out far as well... Which means a custom wheel.

Bear 13 fit basically any wheel and the extreme caliper is a tad wider but not much. It's a very well thought out system and is in a nice package.
If I had my other phone I would show you with pictures. That they are not small caliper and it mounts well under the wheel.

Wildwood makes a 14 inch kit but it's basically the 13 inch with a larger rotor. The pad is super small compared to brembo or bear. IThe brembo 6p is the largest pad then the bear extreme is next.
Wildwood has a rear caliper option though which is a plus thou pricey from a company called tcf??? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Stoptech I looked at as well but they only had a 4 piston set up.

I wanted a 6p idk why but I did. With the e85 and making over 700 I wanted the best brakes I could get. No one has the brembo 6p gt kit on their car I could find and they areway overkill and would make my wheels not look as great. So I went with baer.

The bear extreme stop hard! And have no fade. Definitely worth the upgrade. I feel safer driving the car Now which was the hope. Lotta money invested in this car from myself and the prior owner. I felt brakes wheels and tires help protect it.
And good insurance. Obviously

Good luck with your choice. Keep us posted

I seriously need to upgrade my brakes. I initially bought Wildwood big brake kit. The finish on the calipers were of poor quality.

They sent me a second pair, same thing. They stated that finish was normal and never get complaints about it. I wish I saved the pictures.

But I need to upgrade.

I can’t comment on anyone putting them through their paces in hardcore track use but I’m leaning towards an upgrade from Reaper Brakes. He’s got a page on FB or Reaper_Brakes on IG.
I’ve talked to several people running them on the street and they’re all happy for whatever that’s worth. He’s local to me, stand up guy
