Today is a day that I thought would not come, but it has. Today, I sold my 2011 GT500.

If you would have asked me 6 years ago if Id have done today what I did, Id have told you that you were insane. It was a car that since 2007 was my "dream car". A shocking revelation at the time for a lifelong Chevrolet guy. When I saw the redesign in 2010, it was a car I lusted after for 5 years.

It was a car that I went drag racing with for the first time.

It was a car that I drove to the first date I had with my future wife.

I was strapping my helmet on for a terrible 1/4 pass in the car when my future wife blurted out "I love you" for the first time, after she got done helping me swap my drag tires on.

It brought my daughter and a very sore and stitched together wife home from the hospital.

But, like many things, my time as an owner has come to an end. Whats the old saying? Dont meet your hero's? I had been pessimistic about the car for a while, dejected by such a weak TR6060 transmission that needed a complete overhaul, again. There was nothing to guarantee that the upgraded parts would work long term. Then the cost of tuning went up, tuner acting like the car was theirs and refusing to tune anything short of what they told you to buy and install.

Fuel system and injectors for ethanol that cost near 4K, a blower that would cost nearly 6k with all the accessories and no guarantee that piece of shit TR6060 would make a 1-2 shift even with an overhaul. Not to mention internal engine work that next to no shop in Phoenix wanted to touch because it was aluminum....

It was a good run boys, and I made so many wonderful memories. Becoming a part of this community was daunting (you assholes are a tough crowd for a noobie haha). But the time to make a move was now, as the used market is showing small signs that the values are going down. Great sign if youre trying to buy, bad if youre on the fence selling. If I was to make a move, it was now.

Just wanted to thank all of you who helped me with the car over the years, answered stupid questions when I was a 2014 Coyote owner wishing it was a GT500, answered random PMs about pistons and factory rods and upgrade cranks and all the things that a guy who found himself owning his dream muscle car could be curious about.

I certainly plan to stick around and be a bother to you ****ers, or as long as SID or 03cobra and the rest of the admin staff will have me.

As for whats next, I got enough for the car that I can set a few grand aside for a down payment on a new family truck when new inventory normalizes, and find a nearly finish classic to turn my attention to. Whatever I can sell my Nova project for will go to the down payment as well.

Im a car guy that cant go without a fast car... so if my recent efforts come to fruition, Ill be right back where a I started 20 years ago. More to come. :D :D :D

Salut!

I sometimes have nightmares where I sell the Cobra or house (I love both) and wake up in a sweat and instantly feel relieved when I realize it was just a dream!

Damn you actually sold her. It was good meeting you when I picked up the whipple mono blade. And I understand the frustrations with GT500s, they definitely have there issues. Hopefully my 5.8 will be back soon from JDM engineering. Maybe we'll meet up again and I'll give you a ride.

A lot of emotion in there. Something only a true car enthusiast can convey, and understand. I get it.
Your words speak for most of us.

Totally understand life's turns and twists, and this is one of them. A new chapter with a fresh future. Whatever to do going forward, vehicle wise, I hope it's as well filled with fond memories.

Your thread hit home, having sold my 2011 after 7+ years of ownership. I got lucky in that a friend bought mine, & it's being taken care better than I ever did.
Nice! I sold mine to an Army guy with a beautiful family. They are transferring from Savannah to Fort Campbell soon.

Cars are like boners: The more you **** with them the faster they go away.

You've gained some wisdom that big power requires big money and effort. 100's of engineers spend lots of time trying their best to get it right. The next one you get try to enjoy it as is and your enjoyment might be about right.

Or maybe I'm getting old.

can’t put a price on speed, it’s a black hole. My current ride is lightly modded. I’ve been down the highly modded road, more than once. Keep saying I’m done, maybe like you’ve said (now that I’m a bit older) I am learning ;)

But I think it’s awesome that @RedVenom48 wants a classic and to make it with power!

Bought and sold quite a few cars. The good thing is most of them are easily replaceable. I've had three Hellcats because I've thought there were other cars out there I wanted more. Every time I've sold a car I've found a good deal on another one a short time later. I agree that enjoying them fairly stock is the way to go unless it's something you plan on keeping for a really long time.

That sucks you had so many issues with your GT500. Which tuner were you dealing with? It would be good to know so we can avoid them.

And like everyone said, you will be back haha
