General info:

2003 Sonic blue convertible (110,000kms)
V2 VORTECH running with. 6rib pulley with 3.12mm
Tuned on 94 and capped at 5500rpm with an Anderson power pipe and a blowoff valve.
Stock internals
3.73 gears
3inch cat back borla S type
Stage 2 racing clutch.
Stock tranny
Romeo engine
And an air freshener for biddazzel

The bad and ugly:

Was driving with the wife last week and I was coming off a red light, I shifted from 3rd- 4th at 3500rpm and I felt the car running really rough and a loss of power. Now I’ve had the power pipe come off and give me the same effects but it wasn’t the pipe this time. First reaction is I must of spit a plug.

So this weekend I I found both cylinders 3-4 are down ( rear passenger side motor). I found 1 plug crushed in on cylinder 3. And 4 was badly burned.
So I changed all plugs and coils. Injectors are running fine so I have gas and spark. Engine is still running badly!

Buddy of mine points out my tensioner is rattling, and said he’s seen this happen before to other 2vs.
To make a long story short we suspect the crappy lashes tensioners and or chain guides let off a piece and took out 2 of my cylinders.

So now I either redo my motor or I swap. Covid prices are insane.

The Good:

I was thinking of rebuilding my motor anyways, and I have a second low Kms motor sitting( has a knock but I can swap some parts).

Now, I think I’m leaning more toward rebuilding my motor. Since I’m going to take it apart anyways I was hoping someone could give me some direction. I’ve decided to keep my stock crank cause I don’t want to go to crazy. But I do want to forged my motor and pulley down.

Upgrades I need advice on.

Lashes/ chain guides.
Pistons and rods ( should I bore and go bigger ?)
Cams
Valves/springs
Injectors
Main bolt studs ?
Am I missing anything else ?

So I had this happen to me literally same cylinders. I did what u did and still nothing. After some inspection I found that my valve was actually bent due to the plug. I still could not understand how 1 touched the other. But I am aware that the tr6 plugs or plugs where the electrode sticks out can cause this problem. It then washed my cylinders and obviously damaged my heads. Since then I completely redid my entire longblock and heads. I called up dss promod and they built everything for me.
I run brisk spark plugs. (Soend time look them up) they are worth every cent when running boost to our cars. Since that day I have yet to have any issues what so ever.
I bored mine from 4.6 to 5.1L
I called comp cams and told them what I am trying to do and they made my cams custom nothing off the wall.
Injectors I run 60lb which will get me well above 700 without running into issues even though I'm not looking for those numbers.
As far as internals call up dsspromod and tell them ur goals they will literally create a platform for u which I like because it's tailored to ur car needs.

realistically - how much power do you want to make? that pretty much guides everything else along with some kind of ballpark budget

Between 5-6. I’m not going power hungry. But reliability is a must.

Below is my built sheet.
The Kennebell 2.1L is great for stock motors. But the cost was high. If I was smarter then I would have purchased the on3 kit a while ago. Kennebell was causing alot of heat soak and belt slip once the built engine was in and I was fed up with it. Sold the kit and purchased everything to run the turbo kit.
Kennebell 6500
On3 3300

I was scheduled to upgrade my intercooler setup and I service my VORTECH every summer, that was going to be done as well when this happened. Your setup looks insane! But you purchased a new block tho. You didn’t use the one you have.

Can I see an actual picture of your car, that colour is insane!

So the full wrap I rocked for about a year. I removed it and went back to my red and side vinyl work which is what I am rocking now. I did lights in the engine bay and grill and hood scoop

I have air to water, but all the work that was done to the car was done by the previous owner and he hacked a few things, one would be the heat exchanger. He Jerry rigged a ****ing oil cooler for a heat exchanger. So I drove my self crazy and tracked down cobra brackets and a cobra heat exchanger that will be going in.

Now I want to redo the motor to push 550hp. Lol

Also I love that red and the way it’s sitting! That looks insane!

I’m also hoping to put a cobra front bumper abs duck lid

So he did what wow. SMH peoples dumb sh%t.
So u can make a universal hat exchanger work for ur setup half the cost and works great FYI.

To push 550.
Fuel is a must. So the right injectors and pump. I am talking to a person who creates a return system for about $600. I can go into details if u want.
Look into mr.bodkykits they have so many options for fair prices. Also c2customs make so many great add-ons

So if u wanna chat easier.
