Just wondering, is the oil pan on the Gen2 block somehow an improvement over the Gen1? Like windage control or something?

I’m asking because, at some point I’ll probably need up doing the same upgrade.

Your gen 1 oil pan will bolt right up to the Gen 2. I don't believe there are any differences inside the oil pan.

I called a few dealerships in my area and was quoted $6500-6800 so something has changed.

The reason I bought mine last year is I heard that part number was being discontinued. My dealer said they could have one to me in two days so I ordered ASAP.

I am not 100% sure what the new part number is but IIRC the new price on the short blocks is just over 3k (FULLY ASSEMBLED BLOCK). There are other options out there such as the Boss short block, which is basically a gen 2 block with even better pistons for roughly 3.5K.

Also, Shaun over at AED builds gen 2 blocks for 4k I think. Ford block, crank, gen 2 rods and pistons and assembled at AED. He uses a steel ring pack, coats the piston skirts and bearings with a special material that helps heat and attracts oil. This is also a great option especially for boosted applications, I believe he calls this set up the AED 1000 block.

You were right, the part number I supplied has officially been discontinued. I knew this was coming but there were quite a few left a few months back. I supplied 3 links below. The Boss short block is very tough and stronger than a Gen 2 block. Livernois is the most expensive package below but you can customize. Shauns blocks are also a great choice from AED....... all links below.
