Should I make a big deal about this and raise some hell tomorrow?

I don't get the responses here. I never had a good experience with servicing my 03 Cobra...Service guy put 45 miles on cobra when it had only 350 on the odometer and ran out a 1/4 tank of gas leaving me limping to gas station...I almost charged him with theft by conversion...I had a tech put car on a lift wrong and bent the bottom fender shirts...but the service mgr was a friend and they just fixed it. My Genesis takes a month or two to get an appt. for valve clatter, and delamination in NAV screen.! And at 70- with heart issues I cannot get underneath the car..

I agree, Nick. I just got back from a drive (God, I love the car) and after 20 minutes I checked the garage floor and found no oil. I also checked the oil level and it is perfect so I'm not sweating it. I'll keep an eye on it but I would keep an eye on it no matter what anyway. LOL

I wonder about customer service nowadays...it seems the attitude is "churn and burn": get customers through the door, get paid, and get out as quick as possible and on to the next customer. For example, last week I called a plumber because the kitchen sink was backed up. The problem was somewhere beyond the plumbing under the sink (I wouldn't call a plumber if my p-trap was clogged LOL). Plumber came out, "fixed" the issue by snaking the line underground using a fancy, high-powered auger snake. A week later its clogged again. So...I went to Lowe's, bought a 25-foot hand propelled auger snake for $35 and did it myself. I took my time, was methodical, and made sure to do it right. Meanwhile, the "professional" was in and out with my money in 15 minutes. SMH

Just dealing with the wrong dealers ;)

I dump oil all over the damn place changing it out on my ‘13. All over me, down half my arm, runs all over underneath.

I go through half a roll of paper towels and a sheet of cardboard every damn time.

Move along, or park it over cardboard for a day after your next change.

I also have THE worse luck while changing my essential oils. Always spill that shit all over the place. Still better than letting some disgruntled monkey put his hands all over my turd(s).

I got a very very different mental image from this than I expect you were shooting for.

Let’s simplify it by saying it involved an essential oils-covered monkey doing things around your butt.

Every time i have the oil changed on my 97 Tahoe, they never leave a single drop anywhere.

So glad i bought a Tahoe! It really is a special vehicle.

Yeah...I don't think its the model of the car as much as it is the person doing the work. If you make a mess, clean it up FFS. In my case, the tech obviously didn't do that.

Interesting thought about all the guys saying I should change the oil myself. I did my own oil changes on my Coyote and I'm not exactly Mr. Goodwrench, but my work never led to even a drop of oil on the garage floor when I was finished. As @72MachOne99GT mentioned, I'm like him in that I make a mess doing the change but I clean it up. My work never resulted in oil on the ground a day later.

Im with Nick, some splashed up there pulling the drain plug and they didn't see it, shit happens.

You might not have a drop of oil on the ground when you're done but you probably also spend 10x as long on it, not exactly profitable for the dealer

No doubt. The oil change kit is like $135 for the do-it-yourselfer while I paid $146 for the oil change at the dealer.

Lol... I currently have 4 boxes, each loaded up with several quarts of oil a piece. Been meaning to take to a place to dispose. I’m due for a change as we speak.

I used to have a local old service station that would take used oil. It shut down a few years ago so I unfortunately have nowhere convenient to take my used oil. Doesn’t really matter for my Genesis G70 because my oil changes are free for 4 years. Nice, convenient perk.

I had a similar experience when I took my new Ram for its first oil change. I went to Walmart because I'd gotten plenty of recommendations and the price was a decent amount lower than the dealership. Had oil on the garage floor the next day. When I crawled under the truck there was a skid plate basically directly under the drain plug. I assume you're supposed to remove it but they were too lazy. I was livid, but didn't bother raising hell because I realized my mistake. You get what you pay for.

It almost took longer to clean the mess Walmart made than it would have if I would have just changed the oil myself. Lol

And as far as disposing of used oil, my local Auto zone and O'Reillys takes it but more than half the time I go in there they have a sign that says their tank is full.

damn, didnt realize those cars were that spendy. I was getting the works package done at the dealer around the corner because it was only a few bucks more than me doing it myself but I just couldnt deal with them ****ing up anymore

Kids probably getting $10/ hour.

He doesn't give two shits about your 350. It's just another car to him.

You were smart and got your car from local! I bought in Fla and dealer here puts me on last of list for everything. I don't trust them so I take my own oil...

Please don't ever take anything to Walmart to get your oil change.

As a former dealer service tech, I can assure you that there is a WIDE variety of give-a-shit in the techs employed. Luxury, entry level, Big 3, Asian doesnt matter.

I'd say that for me as a tech, leaving a car like that is unacceptable for the Customer to find. Doesnt matter if it's the lube monkey in the Quicklane oilchange pit or a Senior Master SVT/Performance technician. Shouldn't matter if it's a GT350, an F450 Platinum or an Ecosplat. Nothing less than doing it the right way should acceptable for the most basic maintenance a car needs.

I wouldn't go in on a rampage, but I'd absolutely demand that my car not be made a mess. An oil change should not leave residual oil to leak onto the customers garage floor. That is unacceptable to me, and I'm glad it isnt for you.

Make them clean it to YOUR satisfaction, and see if they'll comp you an oil change for the hassle. As stated earlier be calm and cool, but be clear you expect to be taken care of.

First thing, yes the tech should have done a better job cleaning it up making sure no leaks all that, thats on that tech. You won't even see or talk to that tech, you're gonna be dealing with the advisor or the manager neither of which actually touched your car. So coming from an advisor if you come in and explain the problem I'll personally go put your car on the rack immediately and fix the issue, then I'll probably comp your next oil change. If you come in hot headed, yelling and cursing, I'll get to it when I get to it, the same tech who worked on it before will fix it, and then I'll probably let your key sit on my desk for a while.

Basically don't be a douche and neither will the advisor. I'm happy to fix any problem the tech didn't do to your liking, but escalating the situation unnecessarily does no one any good.

That being said, if the dealer won't fix the problem, then be as douchy as you'd like!

This. Attitudes don't get you very far in the automotive field, and as a service writer/advisor I can make things really quick and easy or I can make things worse for you if you're being a dick to me. I don't mean that in the way that I will mess with your car as no one I have ever worked with would ever do something so shady, but like posted above things can be done efficiently and quickly or we can make you wait. A nice respectful attitude will get you much further and will often get you hooked up big time. We don't want asshole customers so if you come to us as an asshole we are going to do what we can to drive you off so you never return.

Also, if you think they take less care with your car because of the type of car or because of the customer then I would say that is not true. Bottom line is we don't want anyone coming back with a complaint, especially the assholes, so any mistakes made are usually done by accident as it is surprisingly really easy to miss things that seem obvious. The techs have a lot going on usually so things just happen and that is why I, as a service writer, am supposed to keep track of what is going on in the process and catch whatever mistakes I see and bring them to attention before the car leaves the lot.
