Motor mounts are in. Significant difference in vibration and where it happens. The lower roll restrictor is actually softer than the Boomba mount it replaced while the passenger side mount is significantly stiffer than the hydraulic mount. Before, i got alot of vibration around the pedal and seat base. Now, its changed to be more in the dash and shifter. Its less pronounced than before which makes for a quieter ride on the highway at 2200-2400rpm in 6th gear.

Some pictures of the new mounts:

Also, in anticipation of my 15x8 Konig Dekagrams, i went and used ForScan to turn off the TPMS system. ForScan makes it so easy to edit what you need using a basic dongle off Amazon. So, no more dealing with broken TPMS sensors due to curbing at the track. It seemed every three events or so i would get a TPMS code and the corresponding light.

Are you track rats running a time while on track? I’m on a Dizzy Stg1 and will be going to a Stg2 soon. Figured that I’d revert to the conservative stock tune for track days. Thoughts?

A time or a tune?

I run Dizzy 93 tune or E30 tune depending on when i fill up before the day. Lately its been the 93 tune. I find that the E30 tune is around a second quicker than the 93 tune on the same track in the same conditions but you burn fuel nearly twice as fast.

As long as you have a larger intecooler you dont need to worry much about heat soak on an equivalent "stage 2" tune. Dizzy doesnt really list the "Stage" type tunes though. He goes straight for 93/E30 and tunes specific for your combination of parts.

If you can, go E30 tune, larger intercooler and enjoy the massive power increase. If you cant, still grab the intercooler and run a 93 tune from Dizzy. Still plenty of power.

Trackcross went absolutely excellent yesterday. I prepped the car the best i could and it paid off big time.

I was 13/75 in raw times morning runs and 18/72 in afternoon runs. Car went faster than some serious hardware as this event was absolutely stacked with some ridiculous high end cars.

I did experience some issues. I have never really had the torque vectoring intrude enough to cause me issues. I believe i am now at that point. You could feel the torque vectoring in quite a few corners. From what ive researched this seems to be where the limit of my setup is being uncovered. The Mfactory LSD pushed that threshold back enough to get the car faster but i think ive finally hit the wall that alot of guys are experiencing. So, on runs where the TV kicked in, i lost between .2-.3 seconds from two to three corners. Where it didnt kick in or my driving didnt get to that threshold the car was significantly faster. This is on 215/45R16 Azenis mounted on 16x8 wheels. Guys are usually tripping this limit with 100tw tires with stiffer spring rates. I am kinda stumped on where to go next - more tire, more spring or increasing anti-roll rate....

So, 15x8 wheels are coming in the next week or so. Go with 200tw or just go for broke and grab some 100tw R-compounds?

Ill post some photos when guys start uploading them. Also have video i have to go through of the runs.

You're really seriously into the track experience, Kevin. What track were you at Saturday?

Summit Point Motorsports Park. Its under an hour away for me and i have signed up for events once a month for the entire year.

Ive done HPDE's at VIR, NJMP and Pocono South. Id love to get to other tracks but scheduling it around work and family is quite hard. Summit Point is so close and they maximize what they have with events happening on multiple courses each day. They had (4) events happening this past weekend - GFE Trackcross(Jefferson Circuit), a Motorcycle HPDE(Main Circuit), the Porsche Club HPDE(Shenandoah Circuit) and BMWCCA Autocross(Washington Circuit) all at the same time on Saturday.

Nice job!
I’d definitely like to hear how you fare with r-comps if you go that route - wheel bearings and other wear item rates.

I’m sticking with 200tw when our 15x8s finally arrive, but that’s as far as I go for this car since this is my DD.

Still on the fence about 100-140tw tires. I’ve been doing good with the 200tw crowd and this past event I hit the torque vectoring wall. So it’s been on my mind that if I do go with 100tw NT01’s or R888’s that it’ll just exascebate the issue even further.

Only route I see is to pull the connector for the yaw sensor but that then disables everything.

I’d hate to plop the money down on 100tw stickies and find I cannot go faster due to the torque vectoring.

Finally got around to swapping in the aluminum shifter bushings. Took all of 20 minutes and I didn’t pull the console out.

Nice! I thought the whole console had to come out which was why I didn’t plan ever doing the shifter bushings. I’ve only done the trans bushings and short shift kit.

looking forward to hearing if they make a difference.

You can get the shifter out without taking the console out. Side panels need to come out, cables unhooked and then just remove the two bolts. It will snake its way out by pulling it forward, then pull up on the back once its out of the two retaining nubs, then lift the whole thing out.

I can already feel a difference. Its surprising how spongy the rubber bushings were.

With all the miles on the car ive started to look into refreshing some things in the suspension - bushings, ball joints and dampers.

Currently i am on Bilstein B8's and Swift Spec-R lowering springs which have suited me very well. I saw that Rock Auto had an insane price on the original B14 kit for the Fiesta on sale for $740. While it doenst have the newer B14 kit's ST specific front dampers, the spring rates and valving are the same with only the perch threading being lower for the ST variant.

I requested the spring rates for both kits from Bilstein and found them to be the same progressive springs w/ the same rates(final rate of 280F/224R). This is 30% more spring rate up front and 6% more spring rate in the rear over the Swift Spec-R springs.

I plan to pair these up with a set of DNA Racing camber plates, new front lower control arms(with poly bushings) and some custom made rear delrin torsion beam bushings. I also have a set of poly bushings for the front sway bar to add in the mix while everything is apart.

This will be paired with the new 15x8 +35 Konig Dekagrams and some 225/45R15 Federal RS-RR tires.

Replaced the transmission cable bracket bushings yesterday and started to window weld the ridiculously pathetic driver side transmission mount. It has more space than any other mount on the car and is a HUGE issue with movement. Got everything ready and found the 3m window weld i had went bad(around a year ago at that).

So overnighted some new 3m stuff and should have it filled this evening. Install it back in place tomorrow.

Then work on removing the bumper for the tow hook install. I have both the Pierce motorsports front and an FRPP version(for a Mustang) which can be welded on. Still on the fence about which one i plan on using.

I know looks aren’t the most important factor, but the Pierce looks like it was pulled from the tire kit out of the trunk of a 1988 BMW, IMO. Not sure which FRPP one you have, but its gotta look better than the Pierce unless it’s ridiculously big.

The Pierce one is a standard screw in tow hook. Id rather the subdued styling over something a bit too big.

The FRPP one is part number M-17954-F which is the welded on version. The only gripe i have is trying to figure out if the thing will come through the grille or if it will slot out of the bumper. It doesnt look like its tall enough for the grille slit and id rather ruin a $65 grille over a $400+ bumper.

The Octane Academy Fiesta ST's had the FRPP kit welded to the crash beam but i cannot find any photos for the life of me to try and duplicate it.

Replaced the transmission cable bracket bushings with aluminum pieces from Whoosh. Between the interior and exterior its quite impressive what they accomplish.
New cable bracket bushings installed.

Also, since the battery tray needed to come out, i pulled the driver side motor mount and filled it with 3m Window Weld. The amount of void space in the driver side motor mount is a joke.
IMG_9154.JPG

Prepping new mount and 3m poly fill tube. At $23 shipped it is cheaper than just about any insert or new mount by a far margin.
IMG_9158.JPG

After filling and smoothing it out to ensure no air bubbles.

And finally to top off all the little mods ive been doing, i bought 4 different delrin shift knobs of various sizes from Shift Solutions. All are lightweight delrin which feels better in the hand while shifting than some of the heavier pieces. So far i received 2 and am waiting on 2 more to be shipped. The tall one is my favorite so far as it puts my elbow near level while seated.

Looks really nice on the billet shifter stick. More of a translucent white vs. a glossy white. I like it.
