Hi guys...sorry to drag up an old thread, but I have to purchase tires and need to decide between 315/30-18 R888Rs and 315/35-18 TQs. My car is low, but adjustable on MM coil-overs. I have low profile IRS bolts, but not rolled fenders. 315/35-17 R888s just barely fit and slightly rub on big sudden bumps. How does the fitment compare between the 2 tires? Thanks.

Just a heads up cause I haven't seen it mentioned in this thread. R888/R way out perform TQs in the rain. Doesn't matter to many but worth noting. TQ hydroplane easy on concrete highways, R888 are surprisingly good at that. Pretty much a tread pattern thing. The TQ was a little better from a launch though.

I understand pros and cons of the 2 tires after lots of research. Fitment is my biggest concern with my new AFS 18x10.5” (+27mm, 6.9" backspace)

If it’s the same tire manufacturer, I’d imagine their 315 is the same 315 as the next. I’ve heard toyo’s running wider than other manufacturers like MT.

I think Roy^ is probably right about the 315 TQ and 888 being the same width. Since your concern is more of a height thing, the 315/30 888 is going to be a smidge shorter and maybe give you a tad more clearance. I'd even consider going with a 305 just to be safe especially if you're rubbing with 17s. A little more wiggle room without sacrificing much (if any depending on tire inflation) contact patch...

Here's my old Cobra with that setup.
AFS wheels 18-9 front and 18-10.5 rear.
Front tire - Toyo T1 275-35-18
Rear tire - Toyo TQ - 315-35-18
I had to roll the fender lips on the rear and use low profile IRS bolts.
When you raise the car, the tires will sag and the tire will lay against the frame, but don't worry.
When you lower the car back onto the ground there is sufficient clearance between the tire and the frame.

Sorry to jump on this one also but what size fronts are yall running. I have 18x9/18x10 FR500s that I need to put tires on. Also would 315s be too wide for a 18x10?

275 is the the most common width for the fronts. 275/35R18 would be a good match in terms of diameter for 315/30R18 rears. Most 315 tires recommend wheels in the 10.5-11.5" width range but 10" will work too with just a little added sidewall bulge.

Agreed ^ on the 275/35. Perfect fit.

Somewhat related...Back in the day I saw a guy with a TR 10th who jammed 315 Nitto DRs on the stock 17x9s. Talk about bulging sidewall. Guy had a 2.2 KB which was THE upgrade at the time. I remember standing with a group on the side of the local cruising strip. Heard the blower, few seconds later he flies by and lets out of it, another few seconds go by, blow off valve sounds and the Evo he roached goes passed with its tail between its legs. Gotta be 15ish years ago now. Funny how you remember certain things. Cemented my love for the 03-04s. Pardon the trip down memory lane.

back when I first got my 03 very few 10.5 and larger were out so many many people ran the 315s on 9” so I remember the bulge. The day they released stock 17x10.5” I picked up a pair with MT 315s. That is why I was worried about the 18x10 with 315 as I did not want a bulge.

What tire are you looking to put on the 18x10s? I remember hearing that Nittos ran a little narrow so a 315 might not be bad on a 10".

Very true with the 315 Nitto DR on the stock wheels. I've had my car since new and that was the thing back then. My stock wheels still have those Nitto DR on the rears actually. Probably been 16 years since I've had those wheels on the car. Crazy its been that long ago..

For the rear, I ended up going with Toyo 315/30-18 R888Rs. I will post fitment when I get them on the car. I found a really good deal for 275/35-18 Toyo RA1s on eBay, so that's what I'll be running up front.

UPDATE...On my car the 315/30-18 Toyo R888Rs rub ever so slightly. This photo is not my car, but I can use it to illustrate where my tires rub. I may be able to massage/clearance it a little with a mallet, and I have ordered a 5mm hub-centric spacers. From what I have read I should still be ok with enough thread engagement to use stock lug nuts and studs.

So like subject says I'm curious what tire everyone is running with 18x9 & 18x10.5 wheels. I still have my Kumho Ecsta MX tires on mine but they are in need of replacement. Those sizes are 275/35 and 295/35 but i'm having a hard time finding a new tire I like in those sizes.

Lemme know what you have and if you recommend them. I'm open for suggestions.

Thanks

I just ordered some new Toyos for my AFS wheels. Fronts:275/35/18 Toyo Proxes Sports and rear: 335/30/18 Toyo R888R

275/18 Toyo RA1 for the front.
315/18 Toyo TQ for the rear.

Over 700 to the wheels and these bad boys stay planted to the ground.

Glad to see another +1 for Team TQ. lol People tell me I'm nuts, but I've found the TQ hooks worlds better than any 888.
How long did it take for you to receive your new skins? I ordered a pair about a month ago. Received one 315/35/18 TQ and one 255/50/16 R888R. Sent the R888R back only to find out the TQ's are on back-order so here I sit, waiting.

I wanna say like a week. Ordered through discount tire. But this was like 4 or 5 months ago.
