I just did a quote on my 2019 Genesis 3.3 AWD Sport (4,400 miles) and got an offer of $34,912. On other sites, the price averages around $42,500. That's a big difference, but Carvana doesn't show the Sport option which explains some of the difference. You have to be careful that when you go through the quote process that you see your specific model listed as an option. If it doesn't show, your quote is going to be artificially low or high depending on which model you select.

Just put in your VIN and then it knows exactly what you are trading in. It's like all other used item businesses; They'll pay top dollar for cars they want and low-ball cars they don't. I've heard that they are trying to build inventory of certain brands/models to bring in more shoppers.

If they think they can move it quick they offer more. Location plays a huge factor as well. I’ll check with them anytime in the future when buying/selling before even listing a car. The convenience is worth a few grand give or take to me in the long run.

Am I the only one that enjoys negotiating with the dealership? I absolutely hate the idea of set prices on vehicles....f that.

Really? Out of curiousity, why do you enjoy negotiating? Do you do it in person, or over the phone/email?

not a fan of haggling in general, respect my time by making a solid first initial offer. I'm not wasting hours of my life over a couple hundred bucks. When I traded my Lightning it was a done deal in about 20 minutes including them looking it over (one of the dumbest things I ever did but whatever)

I know this was not in reference to me. But i personally like negotiating too. Ive had good luck with it. Normally communicate in person and by phone/txt. In my area prices vary greatly between dealerships. Even ones with the same ownership group the prices will be hugely different. Ive been able to save thousands just by talking with different dealerships on the same vehicle.

My experience has been from the price of the vehicle to the trade in value greatly changes between dealerships.

That's crazy.
Wonder if now I’m in Texas if they would offer more for my Shelby ... hmmm
Doubtful.

That's crazy.

Reminds me of July 2019 when I was shopping the left over Explorers as the 20 redesigns were hitting the lots. I stopped at a semi-local dealer that had one left, to talk to a salesman about what they wanted for it. It was a busy time of day (late afternoon) and the only one who could get to me was a younger guy in his 20's. Wife and I sat down with him and I basically said give me your best price and that I had no trade. Took the guy 15 min to type up an offer sheet with MSRP minus rebates that he handed to me. Took a quick look and said thanks for your time, got up and left. I truly think he confused the MY19 with the new MY20 and was likely told no dealer discounts on those. The sales manager must have been reviewing customer logs and called me a couple days later and said name a price on the 19 and he would consider it. I told him basically too late I had already made a deal on a 19 edge elsewhere.

I enjoy the interaction, I enjoy feeling like I got a deal, I enjoy building relationships because shit happens and it's good to have some report with the dealership. I always go in person. I always do my homework and know when to stay or walk.

It's part of the game for me. Buying a car, to me, should not be the same as going to target and buying deodorant.

I tried to get an offer from Carvana on my '18 Megacab cummins. Last page said I stumped them and they had to contact an appraisal expert and then didn't hear anything again.

I checked Vroom and they didn't offer enough to make me consider selling to them.

Reason #763 why Car Dealers are DINOSAURS! They won't be around much longer...

Doesn't matter really (to me) whether it's easy or time consuming. What DOES matter to me is the bottom line quote. I've got better things to do with my time so a service that pays top dollar with a minimal amount of my time invested is a win-win for me. Carvana has my attention.

I'll have to enter my VIN and see if my quote changes. Thanks for the advice @Relaxed Chaos.

Same thing happened to me when I tried to get an offer from Carvana on my Trackhawk a couple days ago. I still have not received an offer.
