Sorry to break it to you but it is. Frameless panels sheet off snow well and will generally run 20* hotter than the ambient temperature. Light also diffuses through lighter snow falls and still generates electricity at a reduced capacity.
Interesting. I’d argue that most solar systems around me are grid-tied, so if the grid goes down, you still don’t have any power.

Nuclear ? GA spent billions of taxpayer money on two plants that after 20 years still are not up...SC gave up on it costly nuclear venture and left taxpayers billions in the hole

SC did not give up on it, we gave up on the dimwitted idiots/company that ran it and were found to be embezzling money/handing out big contracts to friends and family. SC Taxpayers were defrauded of billions for a project full of promises with little result.

Former SCANA executive pleads guilty to fraud charges tied to failed SC nuclear project

SC residents regularly oppose offshore drilling. We want clean energy because we care about our beaches, communities, and life on the coast.

For lighter snow, I'll agree the heat from the panels will accelerate the melting. For any appreciable snow, the panels wont do a thing. Also, most commercial roof mounted solar arrays are at a very slight tilt on a flat roof--there is not enough tilt to move the snow. For large-scale ground mount systems, the tilt of the panels may or may not be enough for the snow to slide off. Typically, I do not see the snow move at all. Kind of like how you see snow on a steep road or the side of a hill....that stuff sticks!

As for batteries, they are gaining traction, but most installed systems do NOT have batteries at this point in time. That will change in the future.

Snow melts off my panels just fine.

As long as you get one of those huge batteries from China that last 4-5 years then you have FREE power! Green!

Many come with a 10 yr warranty and some with a lifetime. Not saying it's full proof but not sure why you're acting like that. The only dude I know with a solar home powered half our neighborhood years ago with a power outage and they're still going.

This is anecdotal but in my area solar panels are highly prevalent and we have gotten week after week of snow and ice and I’ve seen no issues with them vs snow still remaining on the rest of the roof of given homes I pass.

I wouldn’t bank on them as a full proof plan but there seems to be good upside to having them of bought outright.

20 degrees above ambient of - 6 is still only 14 degrees which is 16 degrees below freezing... So, yeah

In which case you pull out a ladder and a broom extension and pull the snow off. Simple solution to a simple problem.

Dude, stop acting like these things are flawless. I have a few large commercial systems on some of our buildings. They are currently half covered in snow from several days ago and generation is way down, according to my app. Yes this will only last a little longer. No they are not always perfect.

You don't have any snow on your roof either.

not anymore, but the panels clear a day or so before the roof does. Just showing the angle of the panels. Our system faces south which is better than the east west systems

Production sucks during a snow storm but usually clears quickly. I think we got 5-6” of snow over the last week. First full day of sun I was back up to 60% of normal.

Where have I sad they're flawless? These are things that competent adults should be able to solve easily.

Sooo in - 6 temps you expect grandma to be up on her roof with a broom.

Okay.
Grandma is a big girl, she can figure it out. Some of you guys act so helpless it's a wonder you can tie your shoes in the morning without help.

My inverters have plugs in them so if the grid goes down I can flip a switch and use those plugs.

For each inverter (I have 2) I will be limited to the lessor of 5,000w or the actual production. If its even semi sunny out it would be enough for me to run a wire the furnace up to run it to keep the house toasty.

Every post you seem to minimize real world problems with them. I actually have them and am just pointing out that there are some issues, much to the chagrin of all the do-gooders that have the experience of what they read or see on TV. And no shit everything would be great if we could easily solve problems with renewable energy. Unfortunately, sometimes they are not solved easily.
