Any with a B58 motor so 15/16 year model or newer the x4 m40i my favorite that we make at the plant in Spartanburg if u r not in need of major space. If so go x5 or 5 series sedan if a car is ur desire. The B motors have been a major upgrade in the reliability area hence y Toyota chose to use the platform in the z4 I mean Supra lol

yeah i like the b more than the s. the M340I/M40i makes it difficult to justify a full blown M car

One good thing is it won't get a ton of mileage, unless my wife swipes it. The most mileage I do is going back and forth to the farm and I take the truck for that. If I only go back and forth to work for a week, I will total about 20 miles. Be pretty surprised if I put more than 7k miles a year on it.

And I will eventually go back to a speed demon, this isn't forever.

More thinking and looking commences...

Why buy anything at all if this is all the use you plan for it? especially for short term ownership.

The X3 M40i would literally shit on the Explorer ST in every way possible. the only category the St wins is in the third row because the ST doesn't have one. Cost wise they aren't far apart.

In a stoplight race, I'd put my money on the X3 M over a GT500 7 days a week and twice on Sunday.

Recent 530i/540i seem to be decently reliable from what I've researched. 550i is seriously tempting with the V8 but the nagging concern for longevity probably isn't worth it on a DD.

0-60 @ 4.1 and 119 trap in the 1/4. Definitely impressive for a small SUV, but still basically bolt on coyote numbers for the past 10 years.

Edit: wait the above is for an X3 M, not 40i... X3 M40i is a 13 second rig at like 104mph, that's tune only 3v numbers lol you sure it's all that?

I just settled a deal on an X3M Competition package last night!! lol.

I took an X4 M40 out for a test drive. That engine sold me. The sound and soul of it was awesome. The X3M will be even better.

Unfortunately it's a company car so now we have to wait for Enterprise Fleet Services to do their bit. Which is painful to watch. I'm not a very patient person for inefficiency. lol.

But it will have a Berger tune ASAP. lol.

OP for as much shit as I give Lexus for perennially being a near performance luxury brand, you simply cannot find a more reliable vehicle in the near lux or lux market.

If you want the ultimate reliable luxury DD, 05-06 LS430 or 07+ GX470. Any year ISF is good to go as well.

I appreciate all the helpful responses, special thanks to those that spoke of their own experience(s), good and bad.
I always thought the caveat with a mechanic's (not an oil changer only) opinion is that they only see the cars that are broken. How many good cars do they not see? But, they know about repetitive issues as were described earlier in the thread. And can recognize things done well or not so well when built.
I have a very good local import mechanic, so that is not a problem - have known him for years.

I'm sure. You may want to review some of your posted numbers

If there happens to be any BMW salesperson on here, PM me. General questions about buying the brand. Thanks in advance.
