So, I hate the Hydro-Boost. Always have. Can't even pull a valve cover because of it.

Is there any effective way to eliminate it? I know it's there because in 1996 Ford could not fit a vacuum booster for the brakes. Any more modern solution? Any street-able Manual Brake kits? My 3.2 911 had manual brakes and I never felt it was an issue.

As for power steering -

My thought is, eliminate the engine pump, the hydro-booster and all those damn lines. Run a Mazda electric PS-Pump and just run lines off that to the rack. Clean up the engine bay, drop some weight and keep PS.

Problem is the brake master and brakes.

I think your only choice is going to be manual brakes. With the right master cylinder it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I wonder if you can fit one of those electric power steering kits that go under the dash? I've seen them in a couple hot rods. I think the fancy ones allow for some kind if variation based on speed.

Actually had one a while back. Yeah it's a GM Steering column with a $50 knob.

You'd have to pull the rack and drill out the baffles or whatever to keep the fluid from binding it.

I think the pump is easier and would ensure no change in actual feel, your just getting hydraulic pressure from an electric pump instead of mechanical.

When I was looking at building a Factory Five 33Ford Roadster I was looking at a Unisteer kit. It uses a manual rack and the motor fits in the steering column shaft somewhere. Typically it is mounted to the firewall, but can be mounted lower attached to the frame.

That's what I was thinking of when I made my post. As for the rack, just go manual. No lines to deal with in the engine compartment.

I wonder how hard it would be to retrofit a rack out of the 2011+ Mustangs?

I know there’s guys making them for the Fox bodies. I’m sure it can be adapted to fit your application. I’ll report back with a link.
