Hey guys,

I'd like some feedback on those who have purchased and installed a 4 post lift.

What was used to unload it off the freight truck? How about installing it?

I don't really have any equipment to unload it.

If anyone has experience with a great company to buy from as well, that would be great.

I plan on going with a high rise because I have tall ceilings. Also any advantage going with 220v over the 110v? Believe I have 200 amp.

Thanks svtp!

I got mine from Greg Smith Equipment in Indianapolis. They hooked me up with an installer and he took care of everything. Install was $500 and seemed well worth it. I didn't have anything to unload etc...

I found a local installer to install the lift. They had their own small trailer mounted crane to pick up the posts and lay the posts on dollies to bring into the garage. Go 220 if you can 110 is very slow.

I just sent him an email. We shall see, haven't had any luck finding a installer locally.

Yeah, not sure how far out of state they will have. My installer I think said he only goes within a few hours.

I've been trying to find installers out of Minneapolis. That's less than 2 hours from me. There is a 4 post lift company called Advantage Lift, they charge 800 for delivery and install. But their lifts are 3k+.

I bought my 2-post through Greg Smith and picked it up from a warehouse on my little 8x12 trailer, they loaded it with their forklift. I unloaded the columns (about 750 lbs each) with 2 guys and an engine hoist in my shop.

I am getting mine from advantage lift. Saw it at a car show and thought it was a quality piece. Installer is 4 hours from me and wants 1k for shipping and install. If you want to do it yourself you can rent forklift pretty cheap.

we have an advantage xlt at my dads building. It’s a sweet lift and worth every penny. I have 2 perfect park lifts and want to trade them out for advantages.

Tony is an awesome guy and answered every question we had. We got ours on the mecum auction deal. Discounted and free setup. With the xlt you can back a car trailer under it fully setup, lower the ramps and ratchet strap the columns up. If you have 10’ doors you just back it in and raise the lift to get it off the trailer.

Awesome guys. I'm leaning towards the advantage XLT. It's more expensive than some, but quality looks great. I may also go with this.

Pretty sure mine was a greg smith 4 post, but its been quite a while. I got the 10000 # unit with a 110 power. It is slower than 220, but you can move it around and plug it in anywhere. How many times a week are you really going up and down? 10K unit was 400# heavier than the 7K unit. I figured that much extra steel had to equate to more strength. Mine is very solid. Picked it up with a borrowed flatbed. Transfer place loaded it with a forklift. Unloaded with a 2x4, 6x6 block, dolly, and 2, 4 wheel dollies. Used above to move everything around and assemble. Partial disassemble a few years later and moved unit, set up at my home by myself. Had it re assembled and working in well under 2 hours by myself at the house, and I'm not that big. If you think the job thru, I bet you can do it with a few friends and a case of beer. I would spend the savings on the jack in your pictures. Still watch for deals to pop up on one of those.

Came inside a transport. Unloaded with my buds 90hp massey ferguson with forks.

Assembled myself, easy enough. Engine hoist helps.

110v no issues

Subscribed.

Was going to go with Greg Smith this past fall but they closed my local dealer. I have a lead on an installer from a friend, just need to find the right lift now...

He picked that up too with the lift. I like it a lot, I just have regular jack trays with a bottle jack for my 4 post. But I also have a 2 post so I use that for getting the tires off the ground.

Whether it be $500 or $800, pay to have it installed.

this way the installer is liable if they screw anything up. You do it yourself, and it’s on you...

when I had my 4 post installed, it took the two guys approx 7 hours start to finish.

I was able to help them unload with my tractor and forks attachment.

Did you bolt down your 4 post or let it float? I was wary of not having it bolted down at first, but now I never even think about it. I also have used the wheels to move it around in my garage a few times for winter or other projects where I wanted more garage footprint. Sometimes an extra foot comes in awfully handy. If you ever use the wheels to move the unit around, a simple clamp on the outside of the wheel bracket keeps the wheels much more stable.
