How old of a tire would you feel comfortable running on your DD?

Long story short I have a tire that was taken off a new ST when I worked at Ford due to a nail. Turns out the nail didn't puncture the tire so I brought it home and put it in the garage.

The time has come for a new set of tires on my ST and I'm thinking of just ordering 3 more goodyear f1 to match the one I already have. Date code is 13/18. Like I said was previously mounted on a new vehicle and taken off before delivery.

Order 3 tires or play it safe and order all 4 and trash the one in my garage?

I'll say this..bringing your dads 1987 Monte Carlo all stock to a dyno day is a horrible idea. HAHAHAHA When the tire went it hit a friend in the back, another in the balls and destroyed the rear fender. Had cracks everywhere inside it. DUMB.

10 year shelf life is somewhat of a industry standard. Mostly 7-10 years. Your tires are turning three in a few months.

I would run them. Giving no run flat damage, large cracks, and overall tread above 4/32 of an inch

If you figure you will go thru the set in 3 years or less, probably ok. If you intend to see 120 plus and track days on a regular basis, get new. I pulled the set off my Focus for the winter tire change. They are 15 dated. I will be running new in the spring, even though I have a fair amount of tread left. These tires spent a few years in Arizona though.

Right now I'm guilty of running a 2010 date code tire on my SRT Jeep. In my defense the 2nd owner who put these on didn't drive it much and was stored in a climate controlled garage. No rot and they don't flat spot after sitting for a week or longer..... Probably not the smartest idea, oh well. I just want someone to make a Hellcat 5 spoke replica in the Jeep bolt pattern and I'd spring for a whole new set up.

I just put a new pair of Eagle F1 Supercar tires with a date code of early 2019 on the back of my Mustang, and I don't feel a bit bad about it.

Being in the tire business...I see tires that are 5 yrs old and have dryrot cracks and I see some 7yrs old with no cracks. If theres no dryrot, no odd chunking, scrubbing or irregular wear I would run them. Make sure you can still get that tire as Goodyear has discontinued several over the last 2-3 years.
