I built an Aero plinking upper, no name BCG and used spare parts from my old rifle for the lower. Idea was to train hard on steel case with this rifle. Its whole point of life is to eat nothing but shit ammo and steel case so our "Go to War" rifles only eat brass. I cant even afford to feed the dedicated shit ammo rifle shit ammo, let alone steel ammo.

@SHOdown220 I hate to say it but you're right. Might be YEARS before any semblance of normal comes back.

I don’t have anything fancy, so I just shoot whatever... lol.

I hear you, sucks that you can’t shoot a ton nowadays. Gotta be a bit conservative.

I got there at 10 and there was a few boxes of Creedmore and shot gun shells. Little else.
Dang.
A coworker of mine must’ve been lucky a couple weeks ago and hit up two Big Rs on the south side. He picked up a bunch (he bought the max, then his girlfriend did the same). I roll out to the one near me and you - nothing but a couple boxes random calibers

What are reputable manufacturers of 9mm and .556? If I’m forced to spend the money I don’t want to buy cheap shit

9mm for general range use: Federal, American Eagle, Winchester, Remington, Prvi Partisan, CCI, Blazer, PMC. ***edit: add Fiocchi and Sellier and Bellot to this list.***

9mm for personal defense: Speer Gold Dots (My personal fav in defensive rounds. I use them in 45ACP), Hornady Critical Defense or Critical Duty, Federal Personal Defense Hydra Shock, Federal HST.

Typically, the smaller the bullet weight, the faster it goes, the faster and more violent the expansion for hollow points. Full Metal Jacket rounds should be last line of defense as they dont have near the destructive potential as HP rounds. Regardless, shot placement is critical in handguns as the rounds are not even close to what rifles are capable of for damage.

5.56: Black Hills (Extremely high quality, hard to find), IMI, Prvi Partisan, Federal, American Eagle, Winchester (preferably not White Box, but its not terrible), PMC XTAC. Pretty much anything made in the Lake City Army Ammo plant. ***edit*** Add Fiocchi ans Sellier and Bellot to this as well.

Remember: M193 is the standard you want to buy. Its got enough velocity that it can reliable run out of AR Pistols as well as Carbines and rifle length barrels. M855 shouldnt be used for short barrel pistols, as there just isnt enough velocity to cause any kind of fragmenting. 16" barrels are good with M855 out to about 100 yards, and 20" goes out to 150 yards for reliable terminal performance. SS109 is a NATO member spec, and ok but not as hot as M855.

Anything made by IMI, M193 or M855, should be an instant purchase. Buy as much as you can. Those awesome Israeli's load all their ammo HOT.

Stay away from remanufactured ammo if you can. Right now, demand is so ****ing high I have doubts that there's any quality control going on with reman ammunition.

It's going to be a long wait for ammo in general. I recommend you submit your email address with your regular suppliers and wait for a notification that it's in stock. And jump FAST!

from what I’m seeing plenty of places online have stuff in stock ready to ship. You’re just going to pay a lot more than you theoretically should.

Yeah if you are desperate to buy some ammo and have money to spare you can find pretty much what you need online, just expect to pay 5 times normal cost for it, (and you get to pay shipping too!). I'll keep randomly checking local spots and box stores. If I find some at reasonable prices, I buy it, if not I'll check back another day.

Even pre covid I didn't order much ammo online, always seemed more expensive than what I could buy it at the box stores for, and buying a case netted you a very small discount, by the time you paid shipping on most of these it wasn't worth it any more.

Stopped in to academy before opening 2 days this week. Happened to be in the area running errands both days so I stopped in. Both days had lines waiting to get in but they received no ammo. I'm not even sure walmart is ordering ammo any more. I've checked there every time I'm in the store and they have absolutely 0 on the shelf. They don't sell much I buy any more but I would still buy 22lr and 12 gauge 00 buck from them.
