I must say they are actually pretty sharp looking in person. If you’re into the import scene it’s definitely an awesome car.

Not my taste. I feel like it was a low effort car and isn’t all that impressive.

I will also say I didn’t watch the video. I can’t stand TDIB.

Saw a few lapping at watkins glen in 2019 the morning of the cup race...they ran pretty good and looked pretty poised around the track

I dunno. These cars look a little “downsy” to me. I’m sure it’s a decent performer, but so are some ugly chicks.
LOL!

I'm just not a fan of the new Supra. It's got good points, of course, but the negatives just are a bit heavy. The exterior does nothing for me at all; especially the rear. And not being able to lower the windows in the summer while driving, well, that is huge!

Toyota is in the top 3 largest automakers in the world and can't develop a sports car? They already have all the parts needed - various RWD Lexus chassis, BRZ chassis.

Because these are not profitable.

Developing and engineering a sports costs 100s of millions of dollars and without the co-development between BMW and Toyota, neither car would exist. The segment is so small that a collaboration like this is the only way this car would ever happen.

Don't care for it at all. Does nothing for me.

If we want to be totally honest, neither did the older Supras. They are piles of shit too. If it weren't for the drivetrain in them, they would have been junkers in the junk yard just like a Celica. Just with a big goofy wing.

Go ahead and lump every mustang with a V8 from 79-10 in with that too along with any Camaro from 98 - present day. Same goes for any dodge product from the early 2000s to present. That's basically every car ever.

The only reason people give a single **** about cars like the s2000 or miata handling prowess is because they're too slow to race any other way.

People love to talk about how well a car handles but when it comes time to do prove something, a straight line race is what matters. No one is out here racing exit ramps.

The BMyota Zupra is best taken in as a Z4. No one makes fun of the Z4 being a Supra, because it's not. The Supra however, _IS_ a Z4...with less power until this model year.

Couldnt agree more I was really disappointed when it was released. Ive dreamed of building a wicked Supra for decades now.

Seeing this was like seeing that SMOKING HOT chic from high school that I had ZERO chance with then seeing her daughter years later shaking my head in disappointment. Like how could u look like that and ur daughter look like this? Its just wrong! lol

I think they completely dropped the ball on this one. The 93-98 had a timeless look. They should have started there and modernized. I really had high hopes when the rumors started about it but in my eyes it's a flop. JMHO.

Well, not too many cars then or now that can handle a 1000 whp on a stock motor. Realistically, to last its probably closer to 750 whp but still thats impressive tho! Yea the big goofy wing is kinda gay I agree which is why I like when ppl delete it like Baltic Supra does on Youtube.

The Auto tranny was pretty stout as well and when properly built they can handle 1600 whp so id say from an engineering perspective its in a league of its own and the car is very lightweight right from the factory at about 3200 lbs which is why they go so fast on a single Turbo.

No. Not even close. At least the Fox Mustangs "Looked" good and "Sounded" good. Like an old V8 Muscle car. Hard to beat an old school H Pipe and Flowmasters. Import Straight 6 sounds like a Pile Of Shit! Never once have I gotten excited when I heard a Supra. Same can be said about Big V8 Camaros and Dodges. At least they look and sound good.

The more I see them out here the more I tolerate the looks, but the back end does look like they ran out of design time and just mashed it all together. The front 3/4 aren’t too bad.

The mk4 supra was not that popular when it came out. It was ridiculously expensive and not great looking like the 1000x more popular nsx. I saw nsx all over the place when they came out.

Even the 3000GT, 300zx and RX7 were more popular..The supra was kind of boring looking, save for the giant wing. They were too expensive for young people to afford them and put crazy body kits on them etc. i remember sitting in a turbo model at the dealership around 1995. It was around $55k! A corvette was in the mid to high $30ks. Older people with disposable cash just werent into Japanese cars really. Until the NSX came out which had ferrari looks but honda drive ability and reliability. Even though it was $$.

I was in high school when these cars came out. I was briefly in the import scene in the later half of the 90s. Didnt really see any supras or even hear people talking about them. It wasnt till F&F came out that i started to see people talking about them. In fact the last year or two of the supra i remember them slashing the price by like $10k because sales were so low.

It is truly one of those cars that no one expected would be “worth” a fortune later.

You have some historical revisionism going on there.

Only 8,997 NSXs where sold in the USA, roughly half the number of the MKIV Supra.

1998 Corvette MSRP was $38,995

1998 N/A Supra was $31,078
1998 A/T TT was $38,778
1998 6spd TT Sport Roof was $40,508

1998 NSX was $88,000

300ZX and 3000GT had volumes in their heavily discounted Non-Turbo models. They also had a 4 year head start on the Supra.

Technically, the Supra was a ground breaking achievement. 320hp in a 3,200lb Coupe with rear geometry that could hook (unlike a Z32). It had a bullet proof power train, unlike the VR4 and modern braking and ABS with 4-channel control. It nailed every stat, Skid pad, 0-60, 0-120, 60-0, etc.

The MKIV was already a king before FnF. In fact it was picked for FnF because of its reputation. It was the frost car you could basically slap a turbo on and boost to 500whp with no other work. No exploding pistons, cracking blocks, blown transfer cases, spun cranks, etc.

FnF production crew originally wanted Brian (Paul Walker) to start in Dodge Stealth scene here in a mini-movie teasing the sequel.

Paul would then step up to the GSX Eclipse.

The car consultant team thought this was ludicrous and made changes to go from the GSX to the Supra.

GSX was picked over the Stealth because a 1995 RS was fairly cheap and they needed ~13 of them for the movie. Car in the movie is clearly not a 4G63, but it's supposed to be a GSX.

The Supra's more understated designs have aged very well. Classic proportions, driver focused cockpit, targa top, huge aftermarket... And like you said, it's teenage fans of the 90's and 00's couldn't afford it - but now some can... And are willing to drop big coin.

The MKIV also benefits a lot from early digital videos. I remember watching Supra vs Porsche Street race clips back in 2001, the classic Leo Supra videos, etc. Not unlike thr Terminator and the Snake Bite video.

You think a l6 Supra sounds like shit? You are definitely in the minority on that one.
