Thanks for the posts, but those aren't the type of cars i'm looking for at all. Those are way too expensive. It doesn't need to be a show car or have insanely low mileage. I am looking for an 86' GT with a straight body, no rust, except on the hatch would be acceptable as it's not a hard fix. Although i'd love a car with a ton of suspension work, it's going to be hard to find and it's something I can do myself. I am looking for a car with a good looking paint job, but maybe isn't perfect and could use a re-paint or perhaps have some rock chips as a result of normal driving over the years. I would like something with a 306, 331, 347, or 351, 363, etc. Stroker kits are relatively priced low. I would love a car with aftermarket heads, cam, upper/lower intake, fuel modifications, and more. Not all of that is necessary, nor do I expect to find a car like that, but generally someone who has put a stroker kit in their car most likely did a cam, intake, and probably heads.

I don't care if the car is supercharged or not, i'd actually prefer more N/A power mods. I would like something other than a stock T5, like a world class T5, Astro T5, TKO 500/600, but for the price i'm looking to pay i'm not picky as long as it's a stick. As i've said I can manage doing suspension modifications myself. I have most of the parts to do a 5 lug conversion. The interior of the car could be bone stock and that would be perfectly fine with me as long as it's in good condition with no rips, tears, or sagging from the headliner. I'm just looking for a car with some engine work already done and a decent paint job or existing paint. Priced around the $8,000-$10,000 range. Most of the prices i've seen are right around what I want to pay for 86-93 GT/LXs, but from private sellers. I don't even think a dealer knows how to put a good deal on a car. I am willing to travel a pretty good distance to either pick up the car and drive it back, or have it transported to my house. I could spend more on the car, but i'm not looking for the perfect car, something in running condition, with the modifications I mentioned, and i'll modify it more over time. I still need to get a DD since I totaled my other car.

Bump! I am right now specifically looking for only a a 1986 Mustang GT hatchback. Modified with a 306, 331, 347 stroker and so on. Would like aftermarket heads, upper/lower intake, would prefer something other than a T5 or at least a modified T5, ideally a world class T5, Astro T5, TKO 500/600, but that isn't a deal breaker as long as the T5 shifts correctly and I can have it replaced or upgraded later. Looking for a clean interior, I could care less if it was bone stock inside, and want the interior to be gray and not porno red. Exterior wise I am looking for a straight body car, decent paint, but doesn't have to be 100% perfect. I am willing to deal with common rust bubble issues on the hatch.

I already had a deal fall through. I am willing to spend $8,000-$10,000 and I have cash in hand. I will travel with truck and trailer to pick it up, and if the car is further, I would be willing to have the car transported. TX is about the limit of how far I would go to have a car transported. Again I am specifically looking for a 1986 GT, not a 1985 unless it had an IRS or 8.8 rear with fuel injection. I have no issues with 87-93 LXs, but I specifically want a 1986 GT. I will consider any color except Medium Canyon Red and I already mention I do not want a car with red interior. Grey seats with the red piping would be perfect or aftermarket Corbeau/Recaros.

I am still looking, if anyone has any leads, please let me know. I've had several deals fall through where the seller just stop communicating. I've even been looking at 87-93 LXs, but I am very set on an 86' GT. As I said before, I have cash in had, i'm not a tire kicker, and i'm a very serious buyer who's looking to put this car in my garage right now.

Depending on the car I will travel to come look at at, or if I feel it is the right car and an owner who is willing to go over all the details with me in depth, I am willing to have the car shipped to me.

I know you’re looking for an 86, but here is an 88 that appears to be a nice starting point. I’m from Albuquerque and know well the shop that built the engine. NM is a good place to buy older cars because it’s so dry. Anyhow, I have a brother in Albuquerque still and he would be happy to look at it for you, etc.

*Sorry, I tried to multi-quote everyone's messages and it won't allow me to, so i'm just responding to each message in case anyone is wondering what the heck i'm doing.

That blue one is exactly what i'm looking for. It's in nicer condition than I expected for the price. Unfortunately I looked up his name and Mustang in the search on FB and the car is sold though.

I would love to buy a car like that, as stated, the paint doesn't have to be in as great condition as that car and I would actually prefer it to be N/A with a stroker, HCI, full exhaust, and an aftermarket manual transmission. The last part may be asking too much, but at least a rebuilt T5 by Hanlon, Promotion, or a similar type of company. From what i've seen on Fox's for sale, generally guys who have stroker kits on their cars usually accompany it with aftermarket heads, some type of performance cam, an upper/lower intake, a complete exhaust system, and other supporting modifications.

On the other hand, many guys with Fox's who add a Vortech for example, will add the supporting modifications, full exhaust, clutch, etc. I'm not even going into brakes/suspension for either type of vehicle.

I just feel that a car with a stroker kit and HCI is a better foundation to work with. Of course that isn't set in stone and i've seen plenty of both types of cars with just a stoker kit or a supercharger with a complete built block on a budget. I'm just trying to say what I see in general, for the most Fox's for sale.

Damn, too bad you only want an 86. I just posted my 85 for sale. $12k obo.

JK. be patient, the right one will pop up. I will keep you in mind if I see something.

Yes, i've been very patient so far, it's the only option I have, since i'm not going to be getting an IROC Camaro and grow a mullet. This car will just sit in my garage, and be driven on the weekends and to work a couple times a week when it warms up since my job is only 6-8 miles away.

I do want an 86, that is for sure, but I have no problem with an 85 if it has been modified in a particular way. The way I was talking about how I would rather have a stroker N/A car instead of a supercharged car, I mean the same thing in a way for an 85 GT. I don't want a 7.5 rear or have to be the one to remove it and install an 8.8. I would presume the exhaust would already be modified on most people's 85s, so it has a true dual exhaust. I actually don't care if it's a carb or FI. It's just rare to see many 83-85 GTs with for a decent price with a carbed set-up making around 350+ rwhp. Most often if I see one for sale the car might be modified, but the engine is near stock. It's like most people see a carb on a Fox and they have no idea what to do, even though it's quite a simple concept.

I don't see a link anywhere for your 85 for sale. Thanks though, I do appreciate you keeping an eye out for an 86 for me. I got talking to a guy with an 86 GT for sale on the FB marketplace and he was looking for trades, but said he would consider selling it. I asked him how much, and he wanted $18,500, so that was a definite no for me. The car was beautiful though. I'm not sure what color it was, definitely some kind of custom gray color. It looked almost like the limited production run color for the WRX in 2019 called, Series.Gray. I don't remember everything about the car, but I know it had a 408 stroker, TKO600, Comp Cam, TF upper/lower intake, 5 lug conversion, and a bunch more. Anyways, I told him what I was looking for and he was nice enough to find me an 86 GT for sale. Not quite what I was looking for, but I would love to find a car like my friend did.

He bought his 86 GT this summer because a friend saw the car at his neighbor's house in the garage and outside every now and then and he eventually asked about it and the guy said he was looking to sell it. So that friend told my friend and without the car ever being posted anywhere he was able to buy this car without any interest from any other party. The guy threw in so many extra parts. Since the car had an 03 Cobra IRS swap, he threw in the 8.8 SRA that already had a 5 lug conversion done to it, plus a bunch of aftermarket engine parts that were brand new. I think the seller just wanted to clear his garage

I think that car might have been too good of a deal since it was deleted by the owner, lol.

He must have just sold it... it was listed a few times over the past week or so. I thought about buying it but I need a fourth Mustang like I need a hole in my head!

Oh wow, I only got to look over it for a bit, and it seemed like a solid deal. Congrats to the new owner, unfortunately another 86 slips through my fingers.

I wish I could justify spending more money on an 86 GT, but I know this car will be a project car that will sit it the garage and only driven on nice occasions. That doesn't mean it's going to be a garage queen though. I do have to also allocate some money for an 04-07 WRX/STi or possibly a 2011-2014 WRX like I originally had to turn into a modded DD once again. They're really fun cars, and I love the versatility of having all year long in any weather condition. When winter comes, just set aside an extra set of snow snow tires/wheels and you're good to go.

LOL, I was only kidding because it was one year off what you were looking for. its certainly a lot more than a 12k car.

But there is a local 85 that is around 7500 if you're at all interested.

Lol, gotcha. I thought you had another 85 you picked up and were looking to sell for reason since I saw you pickup a new edge Bullitt as well.

I did have an 86 that was similar that I ended up selling for 12k. That Bullitt I had for like 4 days and sold it for 28k. Then a sage green 85 notch and sold it lol.

Oh gotcha. I loved the IRS on the Bullitt. I had one on my 99' GT.

Crossing my fingers. I found a beautiful 86 GT i'm going to take a look at next week. Not modified the way I want, but it has a fresh paint job, rust free, clean interior, and i'm willing to take the clean car over the mods I want for how nice this car looks. Hopefully it works out this time, but i'm not expecting too much, since every deal so far has fallen through.
