Thanks for the posts, but those aren't the type of cars i'm looking for at all. Those are way too expensive. It doesn't need to be a show car or have insanely low mileage. I am looking for an 86' GT with a straight body, no rust, except on the hatch would be acceptable as it's not a hard fix. Although i'd love a car with a ton of suspension work, it's going to be hard to find and it's something I can do myself. I am looking for a car with a good looking paint job, but maybe isn't perfect and could use a re-paint or perhaps have some rock chips as a result of normal driving over the years. I would like something with a 306, 331, 347, or 351, 363, etc. Stroker kits are relatively priced low. I would love a car with aftermarket heads, cam, upper/lower intake, fuel modifications, and more. Not all of that is necessary, nor do I expect to find a car like that, but generally someone who has put a stroker kit in their car most likely did a cam, intake, and probably heads.
I don't care if the car is supercharged or not, i'd actually prefer more N/A power mods. I would like something other than a stock T5, like a world class T5, Astro T5, TKO 500/600, but for the price i'm looking to pay i'm not picky as long as it's a stick. As i've said I can manage doing suspension modifications myself. I have most of the parts to do a 5 lug conversion. The interior of the car could be bone stock and that would be perfectly fine with me as long as it's in good condition with no rips, tears, or sagging from the headliner. I'm just looking for a car with some engine work already done and a decent paint job or existing paint. Priced around the $8,000-$10,000 range. Most of the prices i've seen are right around what I want to pay for 86-93 GT/LXs, but from private sellers. I don't even think a dealer knows how to put a good deal on a car. I am willing to travel a pretty good distance to either pick up the car and drive it back, or have it transported to my house. I could spend more on the car, but i'm not looking for the perfect car, something in running condition, with the modifications I mentioned, and i'll modify it more over time. I still need to get a DD since I totaled my other car.
