would be interesting to know any kind of actual production numbers.

this last trip to the range will probably be the last for a bit, don't wanna dig any further into my stash, buying 2-3 boxes at a time when you can find em blows

Maybe I missed it, but I don't remember seeing him grab a handful of 223 or 556

Is Russian ammo banned? How is Wolf and Tula not filling the gap?

The problem is now even cheap stuff is selling for way more than the good ammo used to be selling for, especially from online retailers. I'm not paying $1.00+ a round for tula or wolf ammo.

That being said the last 3 times I've been to academy they had tula 223 in stock, all for basically pre-covid prices. The 20 round boxes were 6.99 and then they had 100 round boxes for $29.99. I don't buy or shoot steel cased stuff but at those prices and the current shortage I made an exception and bought the maximum 3 boxes when I'm there.

this is what we've been doing - any time we're near a Bass Pro or Academy run in and do an ammo check. It's the only way to get it at a half decent price.

I learned my lesson when I sent my wife in to academy since she was in the area. She called me all excited she found me 3 boxes of 22 and bought it right away. She didn't know there is a difference between 22lr at $3 a box that I always buy and the 3 boxes of $15 22 WMR she bought. I told her now I have to buy a new gun to shoot it but that didn't go over well lol

I deeply regret the time I walked into a new range (not too long ago) with what seemed like an unlimited supply of everything in stock at 2019 prices.

I should have dropped a couple of thousand. Instead only dropped some hundreds....

prices have now more than doubled, ammo almost never available and when it is, limited to 3 boxes.

I talked to a guy who reloads at a very high quantity for a side business. He told me that primers have went up 400% in cost this year.

I went through this in the Obama years. Paying $500-$600 a case for M855, $20 for 9mm, etc. Word to the wise, buy what you need even if it's overpriced and when things normalize buy it cheap and stack it deep.

They will but it'll be a year or two I'm guessing. In the meantime always check your LGS and classifieds for the deals. I've gotten some ridiculous bargains. Steel core chicom AK rds cheap from a widow selling off her old mans stuff. LE hollow point .40 s&w for $10 a box but I had to buy 1000 rounds, etc. The only thing I couldn't find was decently priced .22lr and I refused to pay $.15+ a round. At one point it was cheaper to plink with my AK's than it was with one of the .22's.

I might need to diversify my calibers... only type of forced diversity you will see at my household!
