Congratulations on finding a car, it looks really nice.

Thanks! It's just what I was looking for, right price range, mileage in the range I was ok with for the car overall, very low mileage on the stroker kit, and it has a few minor issues here and there that I can fix. I was never looking for a show car, or a perfect example of an OEM car, so this car fit the bill perfectly. I am crazy busy with work right now, so I decided to have a car transport company to ship it to me instead to save time.

I'll try to post a new thread when I get the car and when I do a few of the mods I intend on doing such as the 5 lug conversion to start.

Good looking car, are you sure it's not an LX?

Front bumper and dash bezel are LX and mustang GT missing from the trunk and side molding.

I also have a set of Marchal fog lights that need a little refurbishing that I might sell.

Actually that would explain the OEM front bumper and how it doesn't have fog lights/cut-outs. The dash bezel I am unsure of, I do know there have been a few modifications done. For example the glove box is just a flap that opens and can't fit anything inside it except the wire to hook up to your laptop for the MegaSquirt. As for the exterior, I know the previous owner pulled off any badging. I thought the LX hatchback version had "Mustang LX" where you would normally find "Mustang GT" on left-hand side of the hatch. The current owner made a few videos of the car for me and since the previous owner installed a Racecraft Inc. steering wheel, he re-did the wiring and turned the hazard switch into a button for the horn. Nice, I love the Marchal fog lights with the OEM covers. The are surprisingly very bright in real life considering they are a 1980s halogen style light. I remember driving my father's 86' GT around 5 AM I believe when I was in high school and the difference with the fog lights on was incredible seeing just how bright they were.

Thanks for the insight, it's probably something I actually wouldn't have questioned. I'm having my friend who is a service advisor at a Mercedes Benz dealership run a Car Fax on this car like he did the other Fox I was interested in before. Much better than paying $40 per Car Fax.

This is a GT bezel, and there wouldn't be a mustang LX on the hatch. There's only slight differences, and that car screams LX. Could even be a swapped car? None of that really matters as long as it's a solid car.

You could always try a Marti Report if you feel like spending the money.

Honestly at this point, it really doesn't bother me. It's not like i'm buying a supposed 03/04 Cobra that is actually a 99-04 GT with Terminator bumpers, wheels, badges, engine/trans, etc. and i'm shelling out around $25-$27k for it. The CarFax's i've run on a few Fox Body's for free were only because my friend is a service advisor at a car dealership so I don't have to spend $40 for each one. I may eventually run that Marti report after I get the car only out of curiosity since the car being an LX or GT is not a deal breaker for me since the price of the car is a great deal IMO with some very tasteful mods and it is a great base to add other modifications to.

I cannot get this guy to contact me back, no money has been exchanged, so I guess I am still on the hunt for an 86' GT. Hopefully one will pop up for sale with Christmas around the corner, and someone needs the extra cash this time of the year and could also use the garage space as well.

2 things either someone offered more money or decided not to sell anymore.

I can only guess so. I wanted the car, but it really isn't a big deal to be honest. This is winter, so I am just praying someone is looking for extra money during the holidays and hoping to get some extra cash during this time as well as clear some garage space or just clear out an extra Mustang in a stable of Mustangs they might have.

On the plus side, I have a very serious buyer for my 2012 5.0 willing to pay full asking price. He settled everything with his bank and is just trying to finish setting up transfer money to my bank account this week. Once money is in my account, he's going to send a car transport company to pick up the car.

So, while I don't have the 86' GT, I do have a little extra money for an 86' GT and have a little more bargaining power when it comes to the Fox I want. Time frame isn't an issue for me, just hoping to find the right car and hope during the winter, people may be inclined to get rid of their project/weekend warrior rides.

If anyone has a 1986 Mustang GT for sale or has a lead on one for sale please let me know. I am a serious buyer and i'm willing to travel if it's within driving distance and drive the car home. If it's further, i'm willing to have the car transported to me, depending on the condition of the vehicle. Either way I am willing to go most places in the U.S. for the right car, but I would have to say Texas is a good indictor of how far I will go for the car, or have it transported to me. California cars might be to far for me to consider, but I am very open. I have the money, I don't need to get a loan, I have cash or more likely a cashier's check ready to pay for the right car.
