What a bunch of ding bats basing a vehicle on sound. Someone give me shit about my 2.7 150 that hauls ass, gets 23 mpg around town and ICGAF what it sounds like. 150 vs speciality vehicle, who cares. Y’all just like to bitch and whine like a bunch of little girls.

Do me a favor 03... Close your eyes...

now imagine the sweetest looking thing you ever seen. She is making eye contact and kneels right in front of your man meat. She grabs a hold of it and you see her about ready to whisper sweet things in your ear... As she starts stroking and lips begin to move, you hear the most God awful sound emitting from those lips....

It’s a Planter type sound. “ITS MA’AM!!!”...

Now tell me that sound doesn’t matter... lol

Ford used the Ecoboost in the Raptor to promote the Ecoboost. Period.

It has nothing to do with performance on or off road.

Period.

Ford would have put a Ecoboost in the GT500 had they been able to get away with it.

This is just like the Mod engine back in the early 90's and Ford's move to OHC. Ford has decided on this direction and is going to stubbornly go down this path.

I could be wrong but isn't the reason why the Ford GT has the EcoBoost was specifically because of the race restrictions making that motor Choice everything to do with racing?

I didn't follow too closely upon release but iirc (@blk02edge would probably know) for the series the Ford GT was interred if it was a V8 it had to be under 4L and the GT had to be a mass production car producing a minimum of 500.

I believe the truth to that is somewhere in between, Ford had been using the 3.5EB in the prototype class prior to GTLM and as for class rules with the GT program it absolutely made the most sense for economic and packaging reasons. However the roots to the use of it in the Prototype class is definitely 100% marketing. Ford for sure could have gone V8 just like Corvette has all along.

That Daytona prototype, as I understand it, was a test bed for the GT program, at least for the power train.

At the time, the rules were in favor of sub 4L turbo engines, so they had an advantage. From what I can tell, the entire thing had been planned, we didn't see the true pace of the GT until they hit Le Mans and they were crushing everyone (except Ferrari) by like 7s per lap.

I remember reading that was the first time they ever imposed a BoP after qualifying because there was so much dominance by the two cars. Ultimately I think that pissed off the series though, because they were BoP'd so hard they had a really hard time competing. It's certainly speculation and "rules are rules" but Ben Keating (in a privateer FGT) got his win stripped away at Le Mans because they car held .1L more fuel than it did before the race.

What V8 would have fit? I find it hard to use GM as an example because of the construction of both V8s. GM V8s although larger in displacement are noticeably smaller than a DOHC motor Ford makes.

Has Ford use a V8 in the past racing in the same series?

^That was my thought. Overall dimensions, weight, balance...etc considering the how narrow the cockpit is and all the aero towards the sides and rear.("flying buttresses", blow-thru taillights).

C8.R is now using a 5.5L DOHC V8.

Yea kinda, only similarity was the engine/transmission. It was a test bed for the EcoBoost platform, I guess the plan was for fuel economy in endurance. Either way, at the very root of it, I'm sure they went EcoBoost to promote the brand. The GT with a V8 likely wouldn't have been thaaat different dimension wise.

I have zero proof or first hand knowledge just my opinions whatever they are worth.

We all know the engines power is irrelevant in this series so the only thing that can be argued is fuel efficiency really. I'm going to go with the notion that Ford just had a superior team effort /race engineering as that's one of the most important factors in racing.
