Thanks for the recommendations. I'm probably going to pick up another one for him and one for myself.

Dude I love the detail you putting into the engine. It really is amazing the amount of things you can do to build detail with some imagination! I would totally suggest getting an airbrush. I'm using an Iwata Neo that is really an amazing little rig for under 100 bucks. I bought my air brush hose at harbor frieght and have it tied to a husky air scout compressor. It's a decent set up that wont break the bank and will take you to the next level. Disregard all the clutter we got going on in the garage.... my wife over ran my garage lolView attachment 1642266View attachment 1642267

That is a really nice set up for alot cheaper then I had thought. I already have a compressor so this is definitely worth looking into. One question tho. How difficult is it to set up the paints for spraying? And what about maintenance of the gun? I'm sorry I really know absolutely nothing about the airbrush portion of the hobby.

I built a bunch when I was younger but only have a few that made it through life and moves: 2 f14s, a b17, a sn95 saleen, 2001 lightning, super stallion mustang, 66 Malibu, 70 challenger, and that see through rotating v8 engine.

I had recently thought about building some again and this thread reinforces that, but I just don't have the time

Posts are mine and do not represent my employer. Actually, my posts are riddled with humor and sarcasm and are not to be taken as a representation of my thoughts, feelings, or ideas. Same goes for my "likes"

As a kid, I built a number of AMT car models. I remember it to be lots of fun, and challenging at times. I also remember building Revell war planes and hanging them from my bedroom ceiling using fishing line. It really looked pretty cool.

I'd love to go at it again, but don't really have the time.

Yeah man, as long as you got a compressor that you can controll outlet pressure it's really all you need. I highly recommend the Iwata Neo as a good first time gun. It's an easy to use dual action gun that is jack of all trades. Paints really are preference based but I use a mix of Tamiya and Vallejo acrylic paints with a 60% thinner to 40% paint ratio.... doesnt have to be exact but you can feel it out. Use a good quality air brush thinner such as tamiya, Mr. Color or what ever you find at Michaels. To clean it between sprays run the hard the hard core Rust-Oleum thinner you can buy in the one gallon tin from the hard wear or auto store through it. Maintenance is easy as unscrewing the needle, cup and front cap off and cleaning them nicely. I can do a more thorough walk through on that though for ya if you ever need, but it's not hard at all.

Best part about model building is that the project will always be there... it's not really a time sensitive deal... give it a try.. I bet you might find it a bit therapeutic

Getting closer... got a nice coat of flat clear on it. Hopefully I'll have this thing wrapped up this weekend.

Fiancee got me a 99 Cobra for my bday. I owned an 01 but no one makes that year; I think the only modification I have to do to make it an 01 is move the spoiler back some.

Gotta go grab some paint now

I had saleen wheels on mine, anyone know where I can pick up a set of 1:25 18" chrome saleens?

rear bumper is different too
Just realized this. The rear spoiler is not only further back it's a diff spoiler too

Damn. Good enough for government work though

Besides the wheels, does anybody know where I can get the right paint for the exterior? Would like to try to find the factory color

Your best bet is to use actual auto paint. Get the paint code and find a company that sells a spray can of it. (or a small can for use in an airbrush)

Welp... a little update on the CH-46. Unfortunately I had to box her up and take a break from it. So to begin with the decals in this particular kit are super thin, fragile and honestly complete shit. However I screwed up and did not put a solid enough clear over them before I started weathering it. Unfortunately this cost me big... the salt I used completely ruined and silvered the decals and left a white crusty residue on the paint. With that I had to strip it all the way down. Regrettably there are no after market decals available for this kit, so I'm a little stumped at this point.

With that said I decided to start on another kit. I'm going to build the Tamiya F-14D kit in a pretty unique agressor paint scheme. I'll keep you all posted as I go.

This would be an awesome poster to hang up and frame in one of the kids rooms!
