@HISSMAN and anyone else ordering parts, if you don't already have a jeep parts dealer, check with RCO (river city offroad). i have no skin in the game, but marcus really knows his shit and i stopped shopping around due to his prices always being the best.

btw, the cooper stt pro 37s are gonna be a pretty tough tire, but rough ride.

I plan to go to maybe 5". right now I have D30 axels. 33's are about as big as you should go on D30s. KyleSVT on here has a TJ with 35s, no lift. Looks sweet. I like my 33s, probable will never go bigger.

Smart. Im a "small" tire type of guy myself...

I guess the tires will be different. I am going with the Yokohama Geolander MT G003. I've had several sets of them in the past and are fantastic tires with a very square sidewall that I like. I go offroad on a lot of logging trails that are really not meant for vehicle travel...LOL. Ground clearance is a difference between getting through or walking back out.

Here is another friends sport (identical to the guy above lol)

This is a Sport with Rubicon suspension and a Teraflex .5” spacer front and rear. This would probably be perfect for your mothers jeep. you can get rubicon suspension super cheap and it rides really well.

OR, you can get Rough Country 2.5" spacer lift to use with her stock suspension. if you use both, it will sit high. that's what we're doing today lol. unless you're mom wants to see over traffic lol.

the rubi suspension has a natural rake to it which i dont care so much for. the RC spacer lift levels it out. 2.5" up front, 2" in the rear. only $200.

both are easy installs.

Steve, thank you very much for your reply. thats exactly the info im looking for. do you know the specs on those wheels and tires? i was told to stay at or below 33s for stock suspension. obviously offset of wheels plays a roll as well.

My mom wanted these wheels. smallest is a 17X10 -44 offset. Not going to work with a stock suspension. I would imagine a 10 wide with -44 is going to be well outside of the stock fenders.

they are 17x9 with with 4.5" backspacing and -12mm offset. this is necessary when running big tires and raising the jeep. it looks aggressive and widens the stance, but it also sprays crap all over the side of the vehicle all the time lol.

if you want to keep it simple for your mum and still make it look good, do this:

take off rubicon suspension to raise the jeep about an inch. make sure its 4 door/unlimited springs. this will retain great ride quality and shouldnt affect the warranty. you can get the rubi springs shocks anywhere from free to $200. also grab some Mopar lower control arms while youre at it. you can buy those for about $60 from Mopar parts. it corrects the caster. not absolutely necessary. i dont have them, though i would have added them had i know back then.

get some nice rubi take off wheels/tires. you can get them pretty cheap anywhere but CA lol. ive seen them go CHEAP in other states. theyre 33" tires stock (great tires). they'll fit just fine on a stock sport/sahara but look better with the slight rubi lift. the 33s wont really affect mpg, gearing, acceleration etc... sport tires are 31.5" and sahara are about 32". the rubi BFGs are actually about 32.5"

these mild simple mods will transform the look of the jeep and she'll love it. if she wants 20s, it might be tough to find a decent tire in 33". not even sure about 34".

if you go 35", i would recommend just going right to the Rough Country 2.5" spacer lift. the rubicon suspension barely gives any gap between the fenders and adding both is huge. as you can see on the before and after pics on the black jeep i posted.

yeah you can see how far they stick out in that pic. some states have strict regulations on tires protruding past the fenders. ive seen guys post about getting tickets/warnings/not passing inspection for it. you should be able to google that info.

most aftermarket wheels are low offset because you need that to clear a lift. very few have conservative offsets. check out AEV wheels. they like to keep their wheels under the fenders, though they are expensive. they also use stock lug nuts which is like the only company to do that.

i aint got no Methods lol. theyre way overpriced imo. the Edge wheels i had were forgestar offroad wheels that i picked up in that big sale. sold the last set about a month ago. these Edge wheels are lighter, stronger and way cheaper than Method. and not every jeep you see every 5 minutes in so cal has them lol. theyre sold under Weld Racing now.

buy my Sport so i can convince the wife to let me get a rubicon! lol. the prices keep going up on them. the 8spd auto trans was like $1700 when i bought mine, maybe $2k. now its $2,750! but its a must have imo. let me know when youre ready. theres a dealer that gives great discounts on new jeeps (fleet manager).

This is exactly what I am going for with mine. 2.5" lift, on 37's. The wheels pictured are even what I have sitting in my cart. Bumpers will be swapped out probably around Christmas for something a little more usable. I have deleted the rear spare for now, and once I swap rear bumpers I will throw the new 37 back on there. But for now, it works.

Here is what I have going on right now.. All stock except for the steps, mudflaps and spare delete kit.

i really like those wheels BUT two issues. they weigh a ton and ive seen people have issues with the bolts rusting. the rust isnt an issue where im at but the weight. theyre like 30lbs or more. my wheels weigh 23lbs! lol. seems like most jeep guys do not care about the weight of the wheels at all.
and then people go and add a 75lb or 100lb tire to the wheel...

your jeep looks sick though!

most of my offroading has been in big bear area. i love cleghorn!

hit up Rob at Coastline Jeep in San Juan Capistrano. people on JL forum seem to have received great deals with him.

stay away from 18/19 turbos. they have the hybrid system. it still comes on the Saharas for 20 but the sports and rubis they dropped the hybrid system. way too much crap going on under the jeep. cooling lines etc.. the turbo sounds great for the wrangler. id just be concerned about long term as i plan to keep mine (unless i get a rubi, but it will be a v6). i have a muffler delete on my v6, it sounds great! not sure how good a 4 banger would sound lol. surprisingly, everyone local i know who has bought a JL and/or met on the trails, all have V6s. which is weird because the dealers are really pushing the 2.0. they have few V6s in inventory usually.

the gearing isnt bad due to the awesome 8spd trans. we test drove a 3.73 JK back to back with a JL sport with 3.45s. both autos. night and day difference. the JK felt like a dog compared to the JL. even though it was a few thousand more, my wife said "we're getting the new one". lol.

the manual trans struggles with bigger tires. even the 4.10 rubis. the sport with manual trans on 35s is a dog, so people say. with the 8spd its barely noticeable difference.

i had my sport on rubi suspension on rubi 33s for about a year. rode and drove awesome. but not high enough to clear obstacles as much as id like. and if you raise the jeep even more, the 33s look too small lol. 35s are the sweet spot on the JLs.

Great pic out at Cabazon with the dino's. My kids love that place.

Jeep is really doing it right with the JL... such sweet rigs. 2 weeks ago i had 0 intentions on buying one (i really wanted a ZR2 Colorado), but after driving the jeep and also realizing chevy wants WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much for the zr2.... i have a newfound love for the JL.

Ive read a lot about that 18/19 hybrid system on both the v6 and the 2.0... i think youre right.. best to stay away from that.

funny because i said to myself if my jeep starts giving me problems and i begin to hate it, ill get a ZR2 lol. in reality, probably another jeep. or maybe the new bronco, if that ever comes out before gasoline is eventually outlawed in CA.

my wife did not want a jeep. i almost bought a clean, low miles LJ. it was leaking everything that can leak. so a few $$ for repairs, and it was bone stock. $$$ for mods. my wife was like, just look at getting a newer one. the resale on JKs (post 2012) were so high i was up near new pricing lol. she was very meh about jeeps till she drove the JL. now she loves driving it to work and always gets compliments from people there about it. and test driving a clean, stock TJ and then a JK and then JL is lol. like going from a fox to an S197 to an S550 lol. my buddy has a super clean TJ that he added a turbo to. its fast as balls but its like an out of control horse carriage lol. its a golf cart compared to a new jeep. just way different animals now. like foxes and S550s. pick your poison.

and jeeps are soo much like mustangs. the aftermarket is massive and so easy to modify. good luck if you have a toyota lol.
