4v mutiny

So I noticed a quickly growing trend in the Mustang community. Facebook groups centered around New Edges have adopted a "Coyote is the new God car" mentality around the 2v's and now they are purposely ousting anyone who has a 4v as the enemy. I heard some wild accusations how the 4v isn't reliable, slow, 2v built walks it, buyers mod ect. Where the hell did this come from and when did it take a turn... I had to unfollow several groups w/ 10k+ members because the hatred in the comments is so childish and ignorant that it induces a environment i can't agree with.

Anyone else start seeing this? I'm not even gonna touch on the amount of inaccurate info they regurgitate

I find that hysterical because highly modified and well built 03/04 4v's can keep with with 3v's without breaking a sweat.

A built 2v + a power adder walking an N/A 4v, yeah that I can believe. Having owned and driven 2v's, N/A 4v's, and now boosted 4v's, even the difference between the N/A versions is night and day. Not talking sh!t, just stating my observations. Never saw a point in building/investing in a 2v when the 4v is already much more potent in stock form. However, I agree that they're generally very reliable.

All I've seen/heard are seen some videos on YouTube from a guy who thinks the 4.6 2v is the greatest engine of all time. I personally disagree, but everyone's entitled to their opinion and he's got his reasons.

The Coyotes kick ass. I don't know if "God" status is accurate, but they certainly seem to do well with relatively little boost. I fully enjoy watching s/c and TT A10's running on the street.

Are you talking stock or modified? I mean the 3v came with 300hp stock and it was heavy. Not really a comparison with a 390hp Cobra.

Modified all bets are off as usual. I know of some that would walk all over my car.

Every car/engine has a cult following. Look at the site we're on. I used to have a local guy brag about his built 2v made the same numbers as a stock Cobra. He got laughed off more than one forum/group.

modified. I think we all know that none of these guys are comparing the godliness of a stock 2v, 3v, and 4v

My buddy built heads, cams, high compression, big blower, Nitrous 2V and it barely made more power than my low compression, stock heads, same size blower 4V. He had 5X the money invested to get there also.

As far as the 5.Bro Boys they are in their own little world. Had one come up to me and be like man that must make 500hp... I was like ya something like that. They have the advantage of better heads and a decent amount more compression (8.5:1 vs 11:1 or 12:1) then us. You take an 03-04 and up the compression and port the heads add some corn and you can match them power for power.

the only thing they have on us 03/04 guys are tuning and software capabilities are above and beyond what's available to us. (I'm excluding MSpnp, hptuners is 100x easier to install and manage)

The new edge mustang groups on fb are horrible, especially if you’re trying to sell a car then all the price experts come out of the dark to tell you their opinion.

Get people in a group and their mentality goes out the window. Sure you can build a great 2v, or 3v and of course a 4v. But they all put down the power different. A 2v has great low end tq, a 4v doesn’t. Coyotes have vvt and that helps with that bottom end. Coyotes and 4v have amazing top end power, 2v falls short up top.
The fan boys that think their way is the greatest, is usually because they just don’t know any better. You can build anything nice, some just take more cubic dollars than others

Best one I had was a guy built his 96 or 97 GT. Ported NPI (yes, NPI) heads, compression, etc. with a Novi 2k spun to 22ish PSI. Oh and meth because that was all the rage at the time. Barely cracked 600 and when the meth stopped working after the dyno got a pretty good amount of detonation. Some people just have to try I guess.

But you said Cobras can keep up with a 3V no problem. Hence why I asked. And you never know anymore. Some people believe their stock car is the fastest thing "evar!".

I saw a craigslist ad where a guy is trying to sell his one of one of one Shelby tribute car that makes 430rwhp with an intake and high flow mufflers.

I remember driving a 3v when they first came out. Had a '96 GT at the time with some bolt-on's so it may have made a whole 200-210 to the wheels. The 3v was stock and 5-speed. It felt very "meh" to me. It was probably quicker than my 2v, but my backside couldn't tell. Actually preferred the feel of the old turd from 1996. Also drove a beautiful Rio Red '97 Cobra while I had the GT. Feeling was night and day no question about it. Perhaps most of these people in question haven't been able to do a comparison like this so they're just uninformed...?

It's a Coyote world, motor has been out for so long and aftermarket has every mod under the sun available for it. My poor bastard 3V is long forgotten.

I have gone up against several 2v and 3v mustangs in my bolt on 96 Cobra. Walked every single one. Those cars, in my opinion, are not that great. I'm not trashing them, I just don't like them. Put me in my 03 Cobra and it's not even a fair race. Up against a coyote is a different story. Those motors are serious. I always give them respect when I see them on the street. Can a 2v or 3v be faster than a 4v, sure. If you put enough money in it. You can make anything fast if you throw enough money at it. I would like to think my 03 Cobra is the baddest bitch on the street but I know better. It all boils down to who has more money to invest. I agree with TerminatoRS, a lot of people are just uninformed.

I don't know why but Facebook is a showcase for stupidity. Doesn't matter if it is a group or just friends. I like to think of this some times... Take the average person or say the median person in the US for intelligence. Then realize they aren't really that smart. Now remember that half the US is dumber than that person. It seems like those are the ones that like Facebook lol. No comment on where I stand in that mix either lol

Re-read what I wrote, I said a highly modified and well built 03/04 can keep with with 3v's on the same level.
I hear you though, a lot of people think their cars are the best but know nothing about them to begin with.

i had read somewhere that all else being equal (compression, displacement, etc), 4-valve modular heads actually flow better than the coyote's due to differences in the intake port shape and volume. especially in full-on race applications.

not sure if true, could be just another rumor out on the interwebs. but seeing mihovitz stick to the modular engine even after the coyote came there might be something to it.

I should add that my stock 2v with only a Kenne Bell at 9psi and e85 made 450 to the wheels. I only have e85 as I wanted to see if it would help with air charge temps.

If you figure it’s making right about 500 or more at the crank, that’s about double the hp of a stock 2v. Nothing crazy compared to some cars now-a-days, but still plenty for the street.

That might also be a block issue. I think the first couple generations of Coyote blocks started coming apart around 700hp.

I find this foolish. Why would you act this way against your own? If this hostility was towards GM or Chrysler I can understand, but maybe I’m expecting too much in terms of unity of the ford brand. I mean I like 3V’s a lot even though they don’t get much love. Do I hate the coyote variants because they’re better than my 3V’s and my 4V? No, the goal is to improve with each advancement. Wether it be power train improvements, aerodynamics, suspension geometry, or braking capabilities, nothing will stay on top forever. Do I think the 4V has been surpassed? Yes. Do I think they’re still good engines? Yes. Will the coyote be surpassed? I’d be surprised if they don’t create a better successor. Seems like there’s so much need for justification of one’s ownership of something. Or the need of someone owning a lesser form of something to prove there’s better variants than the one that’s better than there’s. Ex- 2V to 4V comparisons.

Pick your poison.
