I have a pretty good understanding of it, but probably couldn’t write a scientific paper with all the correct terminology.
Having said that, there are no aftermarket camshafts in this car, so it has been tuned to sound like there is one. Is that not similar to producing a false sound for effect? Maybe, maybe not.
Edit: It’s been tuned to create the effect without any performance gains.
I'll agree with that. Car sounds great in stock form.We've seen the vids, heard the car (cold start, revs etc etc), sounds pretty f-ing good to me in any exhaust mode stock.

Exactly , overlap is overlap. Whether it's forged into the profile or manipulated by hydraulic actuators its still the exact same overlap.Why do the cams have to be aftermarket to lope? When you add aftermarket cams and you still have to manipulate them to lope is that OK or is it not? What if Ford degreed the cams to lope from the factory and that WAS the factory settings is it OK then?
Just because you have the ability to create a smooth idle from TIVCT doesn't mean the cams aren't aggressive, it just means you have the ability to use aggressive cams and manipulate them to have a smooth idle.
You also said the cams have no performance gains. Do you think the cams have the same specs at idle and at 7000rpm? They don't. The LSA changes which turns the very mild streetable cams into the "low midrange torque, high rpm HP" performance cams.
What your basically saying is it's "fake" to have the performance cam settings at idle because you have the ability to make them smooth at idle. Maybe the extra HP you get from TIVCT at high RPM is also fake.
