1 1.5hrs, 380 miles and 3 of America's BEST PIZZA Pies in New Haven, CT

One nibble, everyone knows the law

Modern Apizza - 9.1
- Wow, super flavorful cheese. I've never tasted cheese this flavorful. Little oily, good crust, but a bit wet.

Sally's Apizza - 9.0
- Great crust. Great coal flavor char. More sauce forward than cheese. Still a dynamite pie

Frank Pepe - 9.2
- My favorite of the day. Best combination of crispy, char crust and flavorful cheese.

Finished off with Foxwoods and took home an extra $310at Blackjack

1 - I'm sure there are a few million people in NY that would argue you are way off base. Then there's the people in Chicago that would fight til the death that their casserole, sorry...deep dish pizza, is the best. Then there's the foofoo pizza from California. Best pizza in America in Connecticut?

2 - I'm gonna assume that you sharing a screenshot of the likes you got was an accident because why in the .....

3 - you get the award for most unexpected thread topic today

Well, I'm 25 minutes from Modern, Sally's and Pepe's (New Haven). I've had all three and rate Pepe's the best. We now have a Pepe's in Waterbury (10 minutes away), so my wife and I can indulge more often. Pepe's FTW!

Keep in mind no 2 pepe's are the same. They opened one near me and it's awful. Literally have had better frozen pizzas.

That’s a wrong generalization. The one in Waterbury wasn’t as good initially and we stayed away for a few months. Now, they’ve settled down and you can’t tell the difference. The one at Mohegan Sun is excellent as well. JMO.

The only positive I can see is the decent crust charring from a wood fired oven.

No visible hot peppers
Non-existent meat
Too much edge distance

These are sad attempts to clone Italian pizzas that are only made like they are because they can't afford toppings. Throw some spinach and pineapple on them and move to California. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

I wouldn't take the gift of these open faced grilled cheese sandwiches.

Good thread topic, though.

Meh, it's all garbage when compared to pizza in Italy...but pizza is like sex, even bad pizza is good.

No question about that. Have been there and done that. But my favorite pizza since I grew up outside NYC and went to school there for 4 years will always be NYC pizza. Cali and Florida have the worst pizza. Not too edible. Probably the only good ones are the pizza makers who import their water from NY. The hidden secret of NYC pizza is upstate NY water.

This. Went to Genoa, Portofino and a few other cities and it was ridiculous how good the pizza is. Nothing in the US can compare.

The thing I noticed about Italian pizza was the softness of the dough, they don't slather it in tomato sauce and the quality of the Mozzarella, its farm fresh, especially the Buffalo Mozzarella. I haven't been the same since, its ruined me, ignorance was bliss.

Yes they are down there sparingly. My favorite pizza maker and knew him for years in Pine Island NY moved to Florida over 20 years ago. Was very sad when he left. Have no idea exactly what part of Florida but some people there are benefiting with great pizza.
