I get the feeling this Goose guy doesn’t know much about building cars. Nothing wrong with that but like you said, a 03-04 cobra with a blower swap on e85 will easily be around 7-800 horsepower and anyone doing that isn’t running around on 245/17 tires.
He might not, but he has a very stout collection of badass cars. His garage is on a whole other level.

Here's a video I found on a Facebook page.

Cobra is making around 800rwhp with a vmp 2.65

The C7 Z06 is supercharged around 900 rwhp they say.

That cobra owner can row them gears!

I wasn't talking about the eaton....To me any of the tvs/ts blower swaps are bolt ons for the terminator. So is a fuel system. A factory motor terminator, with a factory T56, spinning 22+ on corn will trap 135-140....that should be more than formidable for the '20 car to compete against out rolling in Mexico 70-140

But that's just one performance metric. The gt500 costs a ton and is 18 years evolved because it does a lot of other things very well.....highway rolls might be the spot where owners could get humble pie'd

Can’t argue with that whatsoever.

This is exactly what I have been talking about. A car like this should be able to either hold its own or beat the 2020 in at least a roll race.

Like I’ve said, a heavily modded Terminator should do well against a 2020 in a race.

I was on vacation with one of the other mods. Tim’s thread is fine here, yes I’ve been watching and reading. I think it’s more of a comparison to 18 years of technology, and what it would take to beat that.
How much have some of y’all dropped on your car to get to HP level of this new car? Honest question.
For comparison, my 18 150 absolutely blows my 04 away in every single aspect.
Carry on.

Lol we counting extra motors / transmissions or just mods? Easily buy a 2020 if we figure that in. Maybe pushing 2.. but motor build / mods to do it right the first time , still way cheaper than a 2020.

Considering the car didn't even come with 245/17 stock im not even sure why this comment was made.

2nd in order to actually make that 700-800 hp your looking at whipple 2.9/KB 2.8 or bigger with a full return fuel system, cooling upgrades, an other parts. Lets not act like its just your everyday bolt on car. Dont forget the suspension upgrades just to keep from hitting the wall.

By the time you buy an 03/04 cobra at todays price. Say $28k or so, add the built motor, upgrade alternator, cooling system, blower upgrade with full supporting mods, full return fuel system, full exhaust, transmission upgrades needed to handle the 700hp plus, full suspension, irs level 5 half shafts, add that shop labor rate to install it all. You are basically at the same cost as a 2020 gt500.

Did you really add the cost of the cobra into the equation? I highly doubt anyone is going to rush out and spend 20k on a car to build it to compete with the new gt500. I kinda figured we were all on the same page in the assumption that these statements are made towards someone that ALREADY owns a cobra.

and your parts list is way far fetched for what would be needed

My point was that a person isn’t going to run an extremely inadequate tire on a car with power like that.

And did you forget that the cobra CAME with a blower? A blower swap is literally a blower swap, it’s not like your installing an on3 kit on a coyote where you will have to modify it and make shit work. You’re really over exaggerating what needs to be done here.

Regardless if you owned it or not. That fact is in order to complete with the new gt500 , the complete cost including the car would put you in the same ball park in price as the new gt500.

Your point is you either dont know the 03/04 cobra or you're just being foolish.

Ive owned 2 2003 cobras. Its not an exaggeration. If your were to actually buy everything needed brand new and had a shop install them it would be pretty expensive. With all that money could of just bought a 2020 gt500.

Theres a reason this thread was made.

Power wise, this guy just made 700whp with a blower swap and exhaust on only 17lbs.

If the cobra was on a real tire and he could drive, I would say that would be a close race if not giving the win to the cobra.

Of course costs can balloon when you factor in labor costs. Shops will charge $150-250 an hour and probably more at higher end shops. Your cost can easily double if not more when you start paying people to do easy stuff like what we’re talking about.

Reading that thread he had issues to over come. Also he started in the low 600hp on pump and mid 600 on E85. Also hes still needing things. But hes got a great start.

Its not easy to make 700hp, and not easy to drive 700hp with out the proper suspension and tires. Ive personally since a cobra in the wall at the track.

his issue there was belt slip, which he fixed and that helped break 700whp.

Of course there are supporting mods like a fuel system but to make the statement that by the time it’s added up it would cost about the same as the gt500 is ridiculous. Everything that it takes to bring a cobra to that level is essentially a bolt on, the motor never even has to be opened up.

Suspension wise, I’ll admit I’m not super knowledgeable about their IRS but i know that a real tire and good shocks will go a long way and throw some axles in too. If I was setting up a cobra to race at the track I would rip the irs out and swap in a solid axle anyway.

Did you actually read that whole thread? Hes gonna need more parts in order to actually use that power. If dyno numbers are the only thing your looking at. You are missing the point of actually completing against the 2020 gt500.

I did. Like I said, a real tire and shock will do a lot, if they’re racing from a roll. Roll racing wouldn’t be nearly as harsh on everything like launching at the track would be.

Are dyno numbers the only thing I’m looking at? No, but bench roll racing is pretty ****ing easy and it doesn’t take much to make a car work from a roll, which is basically what this thread was started about.

Actually to build a solid 9s cobra. Modifications cost around 20-23k. Pick up a decent cobra for around 20k or so. Get your hands dirty here an there.

Also pretty much every kit made for the cobra is simple bolt on now. Wouldn't make sense to pay a shop to do it. Unless you had money falling out your ears or just lazy.

For $10,000-$15,000 a $30k cobra can make well into, if not exceed 750 hp safely, adequately, efficiently, which is what, less than half of what a brand new gt500 costs?
soo...………...

The problem with spending $10K-$15K is that it's a loss and is not as reliable. We've all seen it. Guy spends tons of money modding a car....and it's never really $10K-$15K. You always end up spending more money. Parts start breaking, etc. I had a 99 Cobra, Paxton blown with supporting mods that I spent money on, loss on mods. I had a 95 Cobra, Vortech blown with full MM suspension that I modded to hell, loss on mods. Had a 95 Cobra R, Vortech blown with supporting mods, again, loss on mods. I had a 90GT with mods, etc. etc.

Let's not forget the people who damage cars, blow motors, etc. modding their cars....what do we tell them....."you play, you pay". What about the people who break things then are looking to take mods off so they can get it fixed for free at the dealership?

Now, because of all that, I keep the cars stock. Intake, exhaust....that's it, not even a pulley anymore. At least the guy who buys the 2020 GT500 can have a car that has a warranty, tested by Ford, etc. He can pull away and how have to worry about breaking halfshafts, blowing transmissions, melting pistons, etc. and if it does happen, he can take the car right in for warranty work. Also, when he sells that car, he's not going to have a $20K terminator, with $20K in mods, that he can't even sell for $18K because buyers will be saying that the car is modded and beat to hell. He'll pay $70K and the depreciation will not be as steep. A 2014 GT500 was a $60K car 5 years ago and it's selling used for around $50K.

Some of your points are valid, but don't think that buying a 2020 means that the price is going to appreciate, so theoretically they're both a loss except I wont have a $1200 note for 6 years. My car is just as reliable as any other mustang when I'm not beating on it and just driving it normally.
And to the point about when shit starts breaking, don't think that Ford is just going to bend over every time something breaks and automatically is just going to replace everything, warranty or not. They're going to analyze and over analyze anything and everything before they replace a single bolt. Haven't some guys already gotten screwed with brand new GT350 motors blowing up and Ford told them to go pound sand?
