Let me get this straight....there is a car or cars in the right lane and no car in the left lane as you approach a red light. There is a merge right a few hundred yards through the light. Got it.

If you drop into the line in the right lane instead of taking the empty left one you are a certifiable phag. Everyone just quit trying to pretend they would ever do that. Now, when you hit it hard off the line only to the speed limit it's all good. If the dick beside you matches you, both cars are well ahead of the ones behind the dick and you can easily back off and slide right.

If you ease off the light you can be sure the dick will just match you while all the other dicks behind him will run bumper to bumper to freeze you out and teach you a lesson. They will ignore that most places have laws thar require zippering that never get enforced.

The reason we hate zippering is because we all do it wrong. You are supposed to keep both lanes equally full and same length. No one gets ahead and traffic alternates smoothly. More efficient, safer and no one gets the screw. Never works this way, though, except in places where everyone buys in. Then it's a thing of beauty.

Hate to agree with the young guy because they are generally unemployed millenials living in their parent's basements playing video games in their underwear but sadly he might have nailed it.

Ha ha! Glad I know you to be an honest and fair minded chap. From anyone else that could have been hurtful. No apology needed. Honest, don't say sorry.

I also hate and resent the guys who shoot past my line of polite wait your turn types in the right lane approaching the merge even though I know in my heart it's the correct move.

And yet everyone but you interpreted it how I wrote.
Because most people give a post a cursory glance then reply. I actually read what you wrote and the shit didn't make sense. Again, if you were in a slow can't get out of its own way vehicle how were you cut off by a vehicle doing 50-60 less than 100ft after an intersection? How far do you think a block is?

Thanks! I'll stop being an asshole soon as everyone else does.

EDIT: And actually, no, that's not why we have traffic jams. Or are going to tell me you've never seen a traffic jam when there's no merge present?
Here the majority of traffic jams are caused by merging and second to that would be rubber necking. Have you experienced the phenomenon of the left lane of a highway coming to a dead stop because people can't figure out how to zipper merge?

Lol. Good comment, well deserved (the first one). All good. And yeah, nice try. I already detected a little bit of sorry in your tone. Have a good one.

Since you live practically next door to ssj4sadie maybe you should go explain tone of a comment to him. You'd be doing him a favor and maybe he could finally find some friends? Just a thought.

I've seen the left lane come to a stop plenty of times. It's going to come to a stop whether people zipper merge properly or not. The only difference is one lane is full of people paying attention enough to get over before the very last second. The other is full of entitled assholes that think they're owed a spot at the front of the line as soon as they arrive, as if everyone else doesn't have someplace to be, too.

You realize it's perfectly possible to zipper merge before the barricades are in your face, right? So, don't tell me they're not just trying to get in front of people.

Most states in the United States require merging traffic to yield to through traffic which already exists in the lane they wish to enter. This further complicates the common understanding of proper merging protocol, as even though zipper merging is widely encouraged, those doing so are still legally required to yield, and those who choose not to let them merge are not doing anything wrong from a legal standpoint. Traffic already in the lane being merged into has the right of way over the merging traffic from the lane that will disappear.

It wouldn't come to a stop if people properly zipper merged. It does though when people act like you. It is not the other person that is the entitled asshole, it is you. I'll admit I have done it (block someone from merging), but I have learned the error of my way. Left lane campers are by far the worst though.

All this to try and justify your actions of teaching the other guy a lesson. OK.

@FJohnny your thinly veiled insult is off base as I'm not anything you said besides maybe young, if 33 is considered young. I will be unemployed soon though. I really should get back to my homework instead of ****ing around on SVTP, can't do my homework at work.

It's called right of way, no need to justify my wife's driving when she was right. I'll never let her see that I said she was right.

Yeah it pisses me off when lanes are merging and traffic is already building and some asshole goes all the way to the end of the merge lane to cut in line. It’s selfish, disrespectful, and I want to ram their car for doing it.
I have a slight bout of road rage I think

That's not selfish, it's called zippering. Why wouldn't you use both lanes until it merges? Why back traffic up way further than it needs to when people could just fill up both lanes and let each other in? I zipper when I get the chance unless there is no need to.

i have actually gotten so sick of it that I’ve blocked the merge lane before to keep people from cutting in line. How about that

I’m no troll. I’ve done it and smile when others do it. It’s bullshit I’m sitting in a line in the proper lane and jackasses fly by all the way to the front, knowing damn good and well that lane merges.

I hope you have a big truck, where I live people would run into you for that.
Big enough

Yeah, 33 is young. Just kidding around and tossing insults since it seemed to be the going thing. I think we have identified the real douche bag. Guess it's me? Or maybe there are plenty to go around.

Glad to hear you're studying hard. Most don't. Hope it goes well for you. Can't ever go wrong making yourself a better person. It will pay off longterm.

Good luck to you and all the best.

How do you even jump to this conclusion?
From your own story

You know how there are areas in your town where two lane merge to one and everyone tries to speed around you and cut you off? Last night we were at one of these spots, and there was just us and one other truck on the road. He had all day for a couple of miles to get over either in front or behind us.
Irrelevant
We come to a stop at a red light about a block from where the lane has to merge or turn right.
I'm assuming a block is about 200m or so after the intersection.
This douche bag nails it from the light and cuts in front of her.
If he nailed it and your wife accelerated at a normal pace then how was she cut off?
My wife goes there's never a cop to bust ass holes like that. Next thing we see up ahead was blue lights. Cop was sitting on a side street shooting radar and saw the whole thing. Speed limit in this area is 30 mph, he was doing at least 50-60, and where he merged was already a solid line for turn area. I'm pretty sure he went home with a fat ticket.
Assuming she stopped accelerating at 30, there is no way she was cutoff. But if we are to assume she was cut off and the truck did it while crossing a solid white, the only explanation is that your wife accelerated past 30 in an attempt to prevent the truck from merging (if we are assuming he was traveling at 50-60). So she either A. you were not actually cut off and a truck just got pulled over for speeding or B. you were cut off in your attempt at being a douche and preventing the merge while breaking the speed limit and the truck just went faster and got pulled over for speeding.

So you get your panties in a wad over a bunch of assumptions. Not even worth a rebuttable. I assume your the reason you're unemployed in this job market with 3.5% unemployment.
