You know how there are areas in your town where two lane merge to one and everyone tries to speed around you and cut you off? Last night we were at one of these spots, and there was just us and one other truck on the road. He had all day for a couple of miles to get over either in front or behind us. We come to a stop at a red light about a block from where the lane has to merge or turn right. This douche bag nails it from the light and cuts in front of her. My wife goes there's never a cop to bust ass holes like that. Next thing we see up ahead was blue lights. Cop was sitting on a side street shooting radar and saw the whole thing. Speed limit in this area is 30 mph, he was doing at least 50-60, and where he merged was already a solid line for turn area. I'm pretty sure he went home with a fat ticket.

Wait you’re mad because he didn’t merge into one lane miles before it merges? Lololololololololo

If there is a stoplight before the merge why wouldn’t cars use both lanes?

Yeah it pisses me off when lanes are merging and traffic is already building and some asshole goes all the way to the end of the merge lane to cut in line. It’s selfish, disrespectful, and I want to ram their car for doing it.
I have a slight bout of road rage I think

He used the turn lane to merge.

Your wife didn’t get “cut-off” if she accelerated (at the same rate) and stopped at 30 and he continued to 50-60. Blame your dumb**** city or county for building the road that puts in a merge apparently two feet after after an intersection.

I think you are on the complete opposite opinion as the rest. The guy should have merged before the very end. That’s how wrecks happen and you can’t simply blame a city or county for having a merge lane and absolve some asshat of any responsibility for his actions.

The merge should happen as close as possible to the lanes merging.

No you guys are just being ridiculous. I’m attacking his shitty story telling. It does not add up. If the merge happens a block after the intersection there is no way they were cut off unless they were also speeding trying to be “road-righteous” and teach the other guy a lesson.

Regardless of op not being Walt Whitman, I understand what he was complaining about and agree with op. It’s discourteous to go past everyone in a merge lane to keep from waiting in line like everybody else.
Are you the type that would do such a thing?

Not sure what you’re arguing about. I see this all the time. Many use these types of roads (merge right after light) as a mini drag strip and out accelerate then cut in front of the songle lane traffic. Hell, I do it sometimes as we all do.
However, obviously he was doing something wrong as he got lit up.

Depends on the situation, on a highway I would merge into the back of the exit ramp line, but in a surface road situation the zipper effect at the front keeps traffic going and does not (should not) interfere with lights (and block intersections) that are not even close to the merge. In SA we get a lot of people stopping in a through lane to merge into the exit ramp traffic at the front and that is infuriating also extremely dangerous.

I have lived on a 2-1 merge road for a long time, described almost exactly like the OP (stop light then approximately 200m merge to 1 lane). If people did not utilize both lanes at the stop light and zipper closer to the merge then traffic would be backed up 2 lights prior to the light.

The lane turns into a turn lane not a merge lane as stated in the first post. You are really just being a cuck for no reason.
