A note to my fellow Terminator owners...

I got to spend the day in the 2020 GT500 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. I played on the road course as well as the drag strip. The Terminator is definitely the origins of this new car and it’s nice to see the IRS back in the halo Mustang! I know many owners here have extensively modified their cars. Know this though... the 2020 is an all-out BEAST right off the showroom floor. If you plan to challenge it on the streets, know that it has 315 rear tires (Michelin 4S or Sport Cup 2). It has Drag Mode with line lock and launch control. It also can stay in full boost as it ratchets up through the gears. The car will do 10.7/134 mph in the quarter with zero mods.

So, if you plan to challenge it, come with some heavy mods. It’s an entirely different animal!

Here is my full review and video from Sunday:

I read your review, and a bunch of others out there. The new gt500 definitely seems like the real deal. I recall all the naysayers talking about how much it weighed and the not crazy hp numbers. Clearly the combination is what matters. I'd love to pick one up but that will be a while with the current price tags. Hopefully one day
I can't wait to see what they produce when whipple gets aftermarket blowers out for them. The new gen 5 is no joke.
The balance of the new gt500s is incredible. I cant wait to see them destroying everything out there

Good post and fair warning to your fellow Terminator owners.

Really enjoyed the review and video. Meant more coming from a real car owner and not a paid shill. (I'm just assuming you aren't a paid shill?) Hope I get a ride in one of these some day.

Funny! I am not a “paid shill.” Just an enthusiast that enjoys the hell out of SVT/Ford Performance Mustangs.

The vast majority of these will be owned by 60+ year olds that will never race them, never mod them but just take to car shows. 10.7s are slow this day and age. These cars are the least of my worries around here.
10.7 is slow?

You must not be comparing this to other stock factory cars that are on street tires, pass emissions and come with a warranty.

You can take this straight from the showroom and dominate at the track. Yes, you can always mod a car to go faster, but that leads to all sorts of “what if” fantasy discussions. This car is a beast straight out of the box.

Im super excited to see these cars around sooner than later. After reading everything, they seem like the best of both worlds in terms of track performance. Drag racing and road racing pedigree. How was it with no manual transmission? Odd?

Yup but he and you were talking street.....I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot more vids of these getting walked for quite some time....just like the demons and hellcats got walked for quite some time.

A mild cobra nowadays is..what..650hp.....and usually has the suspension and tires to go with it and a driver that has considerable seat time.....I know what your saying and glad you were impressed....but I foresee more butthurt for the new owners then anything for the next little while.

That is my whole point. Around here the guys that keep it stock don't race at the track and dont race on the street. Meaning 99.9999% of the GT500 around here will remain stock and not be raced. Just cause it can go that fast doesn't mean it ever will.

I approached it with an open mind, but I have a garage full of manual Mustangs and thought I’d feel weird without the 3rd pedal and shifter in hand. It was not weird whatsoever! It was absolutely FANTASTIC! The paddles were quite engaging and they allowed me to keep both hands in firm control of the wheel and 100% focus outside on the race line and gas/brake zones. I’ve never driving a DCT car, this was my first. I am now a firm believer and a new diehard fan!

On a side note, the sounds that come out of the ass end when it downshifts: buck/snort/pop/etc. were intoxicating! Jim Owens from FP smiled when I mentioned it. He said they did that on purpose.

This would be “bringing your A-game” that I was eluding to. You need lots of power and traction to overcome the magic this car has. It can stay in full boost and ratchet through the gears lighting-fast!

Is it safe to say that a 650-700rwhp terminator should be a good race from 40-130?

Can't wait to see some videos.

What does the terminator trap? IMO, If you can drive, you’d win.

New 500 is rumored to make about 670 to the wheels but weighs 4200 lbs. They are trapping high 120’s, bottom 130s.

Having driven the car on both the road course and drag tracks, I can tell you with certainty that it is far more than a horsepower to weight ratio. The way the power gets put down through the DCT and the magic of magneride and traction control is on a whole ‘notha level than my other cars. The 2020 GT500 would absolutely destroy my 750hp Whippled 2011 GT500. In order for a Terminator to beat the 2020, it will have to have a huge power advantage, even though the car is lighter. An auto-converted car would have a better chance than the manual tranny cars.

Sure, but it traps what it traps. A 700whp terminator should trap mid 130s with a good driver and theoretically be slightly faster down the 1/4 than this GT500.

Obviously if the Cobra pilot cannot handle his machine, the new 500 will fly away lol
