So I've been watching all the reviews lately of the gt500 and I'm wondering 2 things. Why is it still called a Shelby if he had nothing to do with this new model why not a cobra if they we're going to put that much cobra emblems on it? I'm pretty sure shelby probably didn't have much to do with the out going model but at least he was still alive and gave his approval then said where's my check. Also there is no mention or anything labeled on the car of SVT at least the outgoing model had svt door sills. So was this not made with SVT help? I'm no expert so maybe someone can enlighten me.

The Gt500 name has been around since the 1967 and was originally built by Shelby America under Carroll Shelby. Ford used the cobra name separately. Hince the Cobra Mustang II, the '79,'80, and '81 cobra's. SVT got into the mix in '93 when they developed the '93 cobra and Cobra R's. Then they continued to produce cobra's through the SN95 and Newedge body styles ('94-'98,'99,'01,'03/'04). SVT is also credited with the '07-14 GT500's but they were still known as Shelby's because Carroll Shelby developed the Gt500 "name" so to speak and was still involved with the cars somewhat.

Interestingly enough, SVT appeared and was credited on the '10-14 raptors but as far as I know, the '17 to present is all "Ford Performance" stuff. The new 500 also displays the Ford Performance logos and such in press shots on the vanity plate and the center screen, not SVT. In terms of the Shelby name on the new 500, it is probably a mix of honoring his legacy and the fact that it has always been know as a "Shelby GT500" for over half a century (52 years). It's basically a "why change it now?" type of deal in my opinion. And as stated above, SVT died when Coletti left the building. It was his baby and brainchild. There are probably people who can give you better answers than I can but that's just my .02

As others have said Shelby sells, people get all excited when they hear the name Shelby, especially the non car people crowd.

Colletti gets a lot of credit, but he also had key support up the food chain, from people like Neil Ressler, and Bob Rewey
