This base model engine makes more than the C7 427

I think you are talking about the C6 LS7. Regardless, a bad ass motor. If this article is to be believed GM has figured out a way to produce and warranty a 6.2 NA motor that makes +50 more than a Katech built LS7? No way.

FWIW The Gen V 6.2 GM used in prototype/IMSA weathertech racing makes 600 hp. That said I don't think GM is sneaking those into the C8 press cars. The factory motor has to pass emissions and run on pump gas.

Pretty sure the IMSA spec is a 5.5L LT based engine. Been a 5.5L limit since the C6R.

They are often restricted by throttle inlets, etc, in an effort to limit power or torque for BoP.

Just want to point out that the entire article needs to be read before you go bananas. They do somewhat explain the weird numbers. Its definitely not entirely click bait

The new motor from 2018 up is 5.5....2017 is last year they used 6.2 GEN V...at least in the caddy race cars. Which I should clarify that I was referring to caddy race cars.

what's your dyno trap? trap speed doesn't lie. That being said if the c8 weighs over 3622 without driver and it trapped 123.2mph (weight and mph taken from mototrend)

The engine definitely has to me making around 550-575hp with that weight and trap

Theres multiple classes in IMSA, the prototype class makes more than the GTLM class (thats the class the c7r and c8r are in). all restricted to 500-525hp, somewhere around that ballpark.

I dont think they ever used a 6.2. Cadillac racing is different from corvette racing.

its a GM mill...however that's not really the point...GM can make this kinda power out of a 6.2, but I don't believe that is the case at all here regarding these dyno numbers. I would chalk these numbers up to dyno shenanigans, or operator error....Though I do believe the factory LT2 mill is probably making a little bit more than advertised.

They also made 478whp in the lower gear, no 1:1 ratio. Also baselined a ram after and pulled realistic results.

GM engineering also said the car will defintitely make considerably more than SAE advertised power when cold.

Since you didnt read the article :D
