Now with all the mass exodus of Californians to Texas....I'm sure they'll screw this state up eventually as well.

A buddy and I were just talking about this...Love the CA weather but man you couldn't pay me enough to live there!!

I was lucky enough to pass this year in my state. Had a tough time getting all my readiness sensors to read ready, and my car is pretty modified. I'm going today to renew my registration and apply for collector plates so I don't have to worry about emissions again.

I believe collector plates are only good when the car turns 25yrs old

Well, it passed no problem. The BAR referee said he’s been swamped the last few months because of the new rules. He said to make sure it’s back on stock tune for future smogs. As soon as he pulled it back around for me I flipped the switch back to the custom tune.

That's awesome, congrats!

I think the only redeeming part of this is that it only costs $8.25.

Sounds like the referee was pretty cool. What all did they inspect? Also could he say what triggers being sent to the referee?

He was alright. He did say that a custom tune that has disabled monitors will be a BAR inspection going forward. Seemed to be paying a lot of attention to air intake.

I’m of 2 minds on this one... on one hand I’d love to just flip Gruesome Newsom a big fat finger and head out... but on the other hand I feel like I should stay and fight the idiocy however I can.

was there anything that he said that could be and issue on your car other than a custom tune that turns off any of the monitors?

Nope. But then I’m bone stock except for the tune. I always hesitated doing any mods because the California stupidity is so unpredictable.

I recently did a 03 cobra conversion on my 96 Saleen and I wanted to make it legal. I went to the referee station about five times because it would not pass. They inspect everything, line vacuum routing, intake, h-pipe, monitors. They have a record of how many monitors should be running for your car. I had the monitor issue because the car had been tuned in the past. My 02 monitors had been turned off by the tune. I think this was a common thing for tuners to do back then. I had to take it to ford to have it reprogramed back to stock and that finally fixed the issue. Choose your Ford dealer wisely because some don't know what they are doing and will end up charging you more because they can't figure it out. The ref manager ended up calling the Ford dealer to explain what the issue was with the monitors. It was a hassle but worth it, now it should pass with flying colors.

Guys. It’s being overthought. This was pretty much concluded in the previous thread. Make sure all you monitors are ready and active. What’s happening is the DMW computer will ref your car if the smog tech plugs in the computer and monitors that should be on are turned off. This is different from a not ready monitor. I smogged my cobra and my evap was not ready. This did not ref my car. I had to drive it to make sure the Evap monitor set to ready.

Correct, EVAP is the only one you can still pass while having issues with.

Sidebar: Anyone ever try the JBA shorties? I have to go back to the stock logs, but hate to go all the way back.

Didn't JBA shorties have a CARB number? I thought they did IIRC

They do. I am somewhat interested in sticking them on while I redo my exhaust a bit. The forum argument is that for the money just go long tubes, but I’d rather have something better than the stock rust logs.

I have been running Bassani midlengths with good results, but no CARB.

Some of us are just trying to gather as much info as possible based of individual experiences to make sure we aren't missing anything that is sending people to the ref.
