2003 Cobra w/76K mi on it. Only mod is Diablo predator chip. Went to get it smogged on Saturday. As soon as they hooked me up and scanned the VIN the system reported the check couldn’t be completed and it needed to go to referee. It’s ALWAYS passed smog with great numbers, never ever failed or needed repair. Anyone else have this happen? The guy at the smog shop says he’s never seen that in the 6 years he been doing it.

Don't know about the monitors, and the guy at the smog shop couldn't tell me why it called for a referee. When he got the message on the screen it wouldn't let him go any further.

You will need to have the car pretty much bone stock in order to pass at a BAR ref here in California.

This is being widely discussed as happening for the first time this year, unfortunately, and I have seen some threads where it seems to be happening in other states as well.

It happened to me for the first time this year too, after all these years passing with no problem. Best of luck with it.

The land of commies and socialists!
If you have parts that are CARB legal you shouldn't have to remove them, at least that's what I have read from others posting their experiences.

I'm predicting a lot of modded cars being sold out of California in the near future; many of which will probably be sold out of desperation and at significantly lower prices than the market has held.

Got appointment with referee tomorrow at 1. Just looked at my original paper work and found the switch instructions for the chip, so dug around behind the passenger kick panel and found the cable and switch. I literally hadn’t touched it for 14 yrs! Flipped the switch to factory tune and drove around for a while. We’ll see what referee has to say tomorrow.

I brought this up a year or more ago about the crackdowns and fines being levied in California....some did not want to believe me or thought I was exaggerating.....bet they think differently today reading horror stories like this.

Now with all the mass exodus of Californians to Texas....I'm sure they'll screw this state up eventually as well.

I hope not. Texas is GREAT as is. We don't need liberals or dumb@$$ Dems (Beto) to come in here and try to "F" things up for us...…..
