I am trying to find someone who will PC a billet fuel door D3 Torch Red?

I tried to contact Brian Penticoat (<I believe that is his name), but no reply on email and full VM on cell phone. I am not sure that is his name, but I had come across a thread from back in 2012 or 2013 where a member on here had a pair of DOHC valve covers PC'ed D3 Torch Red and I used those links in that thread with no success.

Does anyone else do custom color PC work?

Thanks, Robert

You definitely don’t want to get in touch with Pancoast. Went out of business a few years back and ripped quite a few people here off in the process.

I’d just find a local place with a good rep.

Who got ripped off? Like i stole from them, or they didn’t get a part back, or they just didn’t get an instant turn around? I owe nobody anything.

sample car guy message: What’s your turn around time?

Me: 2-3 weeks.

guy mails me parts ground shipping and it takes 5-7 days to get to me.

car guy: will my part be ready in 5 days.

Me: no buddy. It’s 2-3 weeks from when parts arrive, not when you shipped them.

Car guy: loses shit.

I sold my business and did very well for myself.

good luck Robert M on your coating. Sorry I can’t help.

I was busy. It was a blessing. I made some great friends.

Then I got really busy and it was overwhelming.

people didn’t pay for parts until they were coated and ready to ship back. Nobody prepaid for coating.

Did someone maybe miss their local car show because I had their parts still. Probably, but nobody had any parts or money stolen, geez.

I may have disappointed people, but theif I am not.

I do powder coating and I see all the time people want to pull the parts off and you powder coat them in 15 mins and give them back for them to install. It takes time to ship, prep, coat, bake, return ship.

That being said there is no exact match for Torch Red but there are some very very close powders. I would find someone local and bring your car there for them to see and try to match from there.

I don't post often to the forum... I'm a daily lurker...

Brian did a fantastic job on all the parts I have sent to him when he was in business. Even did a custom job on my fuse box cover. I had zero issues wit Brian. Wish he was still doing it now that I am about an hour away from him!!! I need a car show stand...

There are multiple threads here that get into the details, this is just one of them. Why bother to try to lie about it? This is the internet, these threads don't disappear and are easily accessible by anyone who can use a search engine. Did you think we all forgot?

Robert, any reason not to just paint it conventionally?
Would ensure a perfect match and as durable as the sheet metal?

While PC is definitely a durable coating for your application I think @biminiLX is right about conventional paint.

If PC is a must then on some car shows I watch they use a place called "Mr. Speed Coatings" and speak highly of them, maybe worth giving a look.

I started down that path a couple of weeks ago, and I may have a professional do it. I used a spray bomb of base coat and then a spray bomb of clear. To me it looks uneven and I also got some trash in it. I am also trying to figure out what fastener finish to go with? I like this unique Super Snake billet cap, but I do not want it to "stick out" when viewed, I just want it to blend in. I removed all of the stainless fasteners also so that they can be painted separately. I experimented with one fastener in base coat with shiny clear, one with base coat with flat clear for a slight fastener contrast, then the flat black fastener (since that is what my car is, Torch Red w/Black stripes), and then the other three fasteners are as they came, stainless.

I also had some paint that did not seem to stick around one of the fastener holes. I am assuming this door assy. was cleared or anodized when it was made? I am guessing that it may need to be bead blasted to remove the finish and give it a surface for the paint to bite, but then I may etch/ruin the surface? At this point I need to strip it and start over.....but I have set it off to the side while I decide what direction to go. I don't mind paying for it to be done in a real paint shop with a gun, but it will have to have a light touch so that the paint does not get applied too heavy.

The only reason I was looking into PC is because of durability........"If" I happen to bump the fuel nozzle on the ring area I was thinking that PC may hold up better and paint would nick. <<That was just my thought. The chances of me nicking it are minimal because I am always careful with the fuel nozzle, but you never know....

I am leaning toward the fastener with the base coat and flat clear just for a slight contrast but still blending in with the correct color and not drawing extra attention.

It is a cool door to have on my Super Snake, but I am definitely not into "rice".

Below is how they were sold by Shelby, in Alum. finish and Black, except the one in the upper left which I blackened the letters, it was originally like the two on the right.....

The one that I am painting had a couple of scratches, so I could afford to play around with it.

I like your crazy Robert. I think with the durabright Alcoas and black stripes you have several options and none of them would be rice. If going red, I’d vote for the black fasteners.

Sidebar: is there a provision to hold the fuel cap inside those?

Mine has a very small threaded hole inside but I never figured out for what.

Just the two small holes on the inside of the door on mine also, the cap would have to lay on the paint hanging by it's lanyard.

I started down the path of installing a 2010 or 2011 capless fill neck assy., but after doing some "stare and compare" between the two necks and the boots that seal them to the inside of the quarter panel, they are different and my concern would be that the system may throw codes because it is not sealed properly for emissions.

Even more convincing of Black fasteners.........Right now I am on Black Alcoa's......... ; )

The fasteners can be removed, refinished and reinstalled while the door is attached to the car............I need to find someone who will paint the door assy. first. I am not in a hurry, but I would want it to look nice. Sometimes/many times auto body shops are not interested in taking on little projects like this, it is too small money for the time.

I just got two Alcoa's back from Eric Vaughn, so I may be back on Bight Alcoa's at some point in the future also, I had been using my original 10" Alcoa's on the front, the original wheels that Shelby installed on the rear. I was always concerned about damaging one (or both) of those wheels (especially easy on the front), so I had Eric widen a pair of 9's to 10" so I can put the original Pirelli's back on those original 10" rear Alcoa's and store them away. I want to keep the original wheels that Shelby installed safely stored away.

...........but I do like the Black look also....

I am about tapped out on spending on my car, I have many, many things that I have already purchased as "projects" and last Tues. night I was talking to a financial advisor about retiring, I have a second opinion meeting this coming Thursday night. After 31.5 years with my local telephone company, I am about ready to accelerate away at a high rate of speed...........if the numbers work...

The money you could make off of the parts you have squirreled away could bring you millions. Beautiful Shelby but like the Black accents better. More sinister.
