DEARBORN, Mich., June 19, 2019 – Venomous strike: The all-new 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500 will produce 760 horsepower and 625 lb.-ft. of torque, making it the most powerful street-legal Ford ever – with the most power- and torque-dense supercharged production V8 engine in the world.

Enough said.

doesnt GT500 pull 1.5g's?

Couldn't tell you, but it does have some serious rubber on it. That's a lot of Gs for all that weight though, I'd be interested to see how long it could maintain something like that... I mean, at 4200 lbs this this is really only going to be good for hero laps, forget cooling, you're going to be murdering tires.

I don't think you're taking into account the mechanical grip advantages of a mid engine platform. Didn't Chevy advertise the C8 hitting ~1.0G on a skid pad on all seasons... The Alpha chassis is good, sure, but there's nothing magic about the ZL1 1LE other than some decently big and sticky tires + a ton of horsepower. Even so, big and sticky tires are not much of an equalizer to just a superior platform. We saw this with virtually stock S550 cars running all over decently modified S197 cars because of the IRS improvement.

I'd be willing to bet a Z51 is at least pretty even with a Zl1 1LE, if not faster.

I do agree that at the end of the day though it's almost always a driver's race.
The 1LE is sticky and stiff as a literal race car. Tires and actual track specs are everything and a non Z C8 will absolutely not be faster than it.
Fair, but I will say that GM marketing geniuses would look kind of dumb if the biggest rollout vette (ever?) could not hang with the previous generation CAMARO. Don't you think?
Not at all, the Zl1 1LE is hardly slower than the C7Z z07. It is a rediculous car that sucks ass on the street as a result. Chevy built that thing for numbers and boy did it deliver.

There’s a lot of people here who think the base c8 will out run a c7z06 on track. I don’t think it gets close. The c8 gs should be close if not slightly better. The c8z will be convincingly faster.

The zl11le runs about 1 second slower on most mid length tracks than the c7z. It’s fast. Oh by the way the 1le skidpad is 1.18g.

The C8z51 will not hang with the c7z or beat the 1le on track

I'd be interested to see. The C7z struggled with putting power down and aero that created a disproportionate amount of drag for the downforce generated.

I have been doing track days for years though and have driven my dad's C7z M7 on track and I do think the C8 will have it's work cut out to be faster. I wouldn't be surprised though, and I'd bet the difference is only a result of the HP difference.

I really wish Ford would step up their game when it comes to videos and commercials.
Take Dodge for example...........
I do thank Steve for the video.

That video is :).

Can't the common folks have tools like what they use to assemble engines in their garage??

Way to slam those cyl. heads down on the head gskt and block deck surface.

So, I have a question about the throttle body on the 5.2 supercharged GT500.
Can that be updated at all? Is it like the rear feed 2.3 TVS superchargers where we could change out TB's? (i.e. 67mm TB or 69mm TB) Or will that be the one thing that cannot be done as far as mods?
Serious question.

It almost looks like the upper blowing casing will prevent it, the opening that is. Is it matched to the throttle body size wise?

Yeah, that's what I'm looking at. My supercharger is the same way. 2650 front feed.
I don't think it's possible with the new GT500/Roush 2650 superchargers.
