Despite having decent intelligence (made it through med school lol), I can't seem to memorize any song in its entirety. Anyone else have this problem too?

I can't understand half of the lyrics the first few times for some metal/hard rock bands let along remember the lyrics.

I know Cat in the Cradle and Time in a bottle by heart. But that was after my son was born and they had a stronger meaning to me.

I certainly don't remember entire songs by memory, hell I'm guilty of mishearing lyrics as well.

Gets even worse when I listen to stuff that's in a different language like Russian or Turkish.

I’m the opposite. I’ve always thought that if I hadn’t wasted so much of my memory memorizing song lyrics, maybe I could have been more than some some ****ing fireman. That said, I cannot remember artists names to save my life. No idea why. I’ll lose that bar bet every night of the god damn week. Even if I know the words!!!

Random people: “Hey who sang ____?”
Me: “Damnit. I don’t know. **** off”

I’m real social sometimes. ;)

Always told my wife if she could free up some of the space taking up 90s-00s song lyrics she could probably cure cancer. For me I always mix words up so my lyric memory is more of a paraphrase.

The only anthem/song I can sing out loud with every word correct is the United States National Anthem. I know other songs and how they go and can sing along to the radio, but if I turn it down... I just make @#$% up at that point.

My wife... she can recite lyrics to most of the songs we listen to (80's rock). She can also recite movie lines that makes me feel like such an imbecile. Then again, knowing all my credit card, bank account, drivers license, and other useless numbers by memory - along with an internal homing pigeon directional finder does bring some merit and back to equal footing.

My wife and i play this game on road trips. We mainly listen to 70s and 80s when im in the car because i say so, but anyway, when we hear a song, one of us will ask the following: name the song, 2 members of the band, the album and the year it was realeased. Without googling it. Makes for a fun ride. She has yet to stump me. Im that good.

I can memorize almost anything. But one thing that gives me trouble, even after all these years in electronics, is remembering that red is positive and black is negative. I have to look it up, every time. I stand there, looking at the wires, and I think, "I should know this. Been in electronics almost 40 years, now, but ... dammit!" and I go and look it up. Maybe because of that I have never miswired power in a DC circuit.

Some songs sound great but aren’t worth memorizing. For example, listen to Monkey Business (Skid Row). The song rips, but the lyrics were clearly written by illiterate drug addict with the IQ of 83.

“Outside my window there's a whole lot of trouble comin'
The cartoon killers and the rag cover clones
Stack heels kickin' rhythm of social circumcision
Can't close the closet on a shoe box full of bones

Kangaroo lady with her bourbon in a pouch
Can't afford the rental on a bamboo couch
Collecting back her favors 'cause her well is running dry
I know her act is terminal,
But she ain't gonna die
Slim intoxicado drinkin' dime store hooch
Is always in a circle with his part-time pooch
Little creepy's playing dollies in the New York rain
Thinkin' Bowie's just a knife
Ooh the pain
I ain't seen the sun since I don't know when

The freaks come out at nine and it's twenty to ten
What's this funk
That you call junk
To me it's just monkey business”
