Head Tester came in, I tested the coolant tank because I notices videos of people testing both the tank as well as the radiator. No signs of exhaust gas in the coolant. The oil is also normal so none there or signs of coolant in exhaust. Code has not come back since the gas treatment and Premium fuel. Really hoping that is all it was.
Id still make an appointment and have it looked at. exhaust gas leak detector kits work fine if the head gasket is blown bad enough. If its a situation where the issue occurs under load, youll never be able to safely reproduce the condition to accurately test it.

Is there a reason you don't want to take it in under warranty as mentioned? I'm just curious.

Not at all. Like I said I just want to handle anything simple/small without the hassle of taking it in. I hate dealerships. I think it would be dumb to take it in for a coil pack/spark plug/bad gas/bad gas cap.

No offense, but this sounds like way more of a hassle what you're doing instead of dropping it off at the dealership.

I enjoy working on my cars, but if I popped a code on my truck while it was under warranty it went straight to the dealer. Part of it was because I didn't/don't know much about diesels, but also I didn't want to do something that they could point the finger at me for messing up. But then I had a good service advisor and I only dealt with him.

There's no way the dealer could say that OP delayed taking the truck and instead created more damage by trying to fix it himself and prolonging the issue? Like for example it is the head that is bad.

I'm gonna go with no. Changing out a spark plug and swapping coil packs is not a warranty violation. No power loss, no coolant from exhaust, oil is fine, block tester was negative for exhaust in the coolant system, code has not returned...yet. I'm going with lose cap or bad gas. If it comes back..I've exhausted the all other options and it will go in.

No. A dealer and the Manufacturer would have to be able to prove that the steps an owner took on their own either caused the issue or grossly exacerbated the issue.

In this instance, if OP had improperly installed the spark plug and it blew the plug and stripped the threads then he would be on the hook. But properly installing a new plug and swapping coils is no problem.

Now, if the engine took a triple ground strap Denso Iridium plug, and OP put a basic Champion copper single strap plug in that was 5mm shorter and 2 heat ranges hotter, yeah that would cause an issue. But the most that would happen is that OP would have to let the dealer install the correct plugs on his dime to continue diagnosis as a warranty concern if symptoms were still there.

Dang, I had a coworker who had the same exact problem with his '17 Wrangler. I'll text him and see what it was, but head/ head gasket issue sounds about right.

The only problem we had with our '16 JKU was when it got hit head on at 100mph... Thing saved my wife's life, so I have to give it that...

Hold on there Mate. You hit someone head on while driving 100mph or you were hit head on by a vehicle driving 100mph? She's alive huh?

Some dumb 17 year old was driving 100+ East, while my wife was headed West in a line of traffic going 50mph. Kid crosses the double-yellow, blows the rear axle off one truck, spins a second, hits my wife's Jeep nearly head on, knocks her off the road, tumbled her down a hill 4 times ending at a utility pole. She couldn't walk for several weeks, had loose teeth, has permanent memory loss, and she is still dealing with health issues from the accident. SC Trooper called several of us the night of the accident to give us an update, and that's where they gave a speed estimate. Honda Accord going 100mph+ totaled a '92 International Flatbed, a '97 F150, and a '16 JKU. The impact was hard enough to where it cracked the engine block in the JKU and somehow snapped the entire drivetrain back hard enough to shear the transmission crossmember and rear suspension, so it was a floppy mess when they pulled it out with a wrecker.

I'm disappointed that the kid that caused it didn't get mangled to unrecognizable hell. I pass by him quite often, since he lives 3 roads over, and is still driving around illegally. I question why I continue to live in a state that protects worthless bastards like him.

Are you currently, or have you finished suing the ever living shit out of that piece of shit?

If it were me dude, Id be staked out in front of the ****ers house waiting for him to get behind the wheel of a car and calling the cops. Also, fear not. He sounds like enough of a piece of shit that karma will eventually get him.

Here is what Identifix comes up with for test procedures and the most common confirmed fixes for that code.

Max we could sue for was $5000. Called all of the dirtiest ambulance chasers we could, and nobody would even take the case because they knew there was no money in it. Oh, he'll eventually ruin himself, and most likely more undeserving people. As it is, the first guy that got hit is paralyzed for life. Meanwhile, Pudgy Mc**** is posting Facebook pictures of himself standing on the hood of his truck, urinating off the side while flipping off the camera.

Called the police two years ago when I used county tax records to prove the vehicle he was driving wasn't his (due to the accident, he isn't allowed to be on anyone else's insurance, and he had 6 month license suspension from what I was told). Cops did nothing. Being the county it was in, they were probably too busy doing cocaine, taking 3 hour lunch breaks, and trying to seduce Tinder girls on work time.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. If I had lost her, I'd gladly spend the rest of my days in jail for what I'd have done to that pudgy piece of garbage that hit her.

Sorry, I digress... Way off topic.

No worries....till my Wife's code comes back...this thread is pretty much done. I dread changing the spark plugs on the other 4 cylinders...changed two. It's pretty much pull the engine..change spark plugs..put engine back in...lol

Well.....the code came back and took the Jeep to the dealership. Evap system was faulty at the gas cap as well as in the front. We have to pay for that since the vehicle is JUST out of warranty. The bad news is, and I just found this out moments ago is the head is bad. They have no idea when they will get one in. It's covered under the 60K power train warranty luckily. They put her up in a Jeep Grand Cherokee for a rental. She already said it's getting traded in as soon as she gets it back and I don't blame her. She is thinking of a 2020 Jeep Wrangler or a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
