Ya op like stated above stay out of it until you can datalog.

You’ll need the handheld, laptop, and a wideband.

We’ve got a handful of tuners on the site; I’m on my phone so it’s harder to search for usernames but two are 04sleeper and MalcolmV8. Turbovenom or something is good too but that’s not how you spell his username.

Google 03/04 cobra caged lower to see what a stock unit looks like. The metco unit won’t have the “Cage”. You’ll need to measure the lower pulley diameter as well as it appears to be aftermarket.

Best pic I can get if the lower. I used a mirror looking for markings and couldn't find any.

For God's sake get rid of those stock idlers tomorrow. Loved Metco

This was my lower Idler after a 3rd gear pull at 17lbs of boost.

I see you're in Newport News.

Take it to Brent at DTP. He tuned few of my cobras back in the day and did a great job.

They used to be in VA beach but I think I they moved out to Chesapeake a couple years ago.

Measure the lower pulley.

Take that measurement a google it.

It will show you how many +lbs it will add.

I cant remember the sizes but at first glance in the picture I'd probably say that's a 4lb.

So probably a 2.76 upper with 4lb lower. Pretty common set up.

Blower may be ported as well. Take off the air intake tube and look into the TB/plenum and see if there is any porting done.

Who did you buy the car from? Is it from the Norfolk area?

Join 757 Mustang page on Facebook. Quite a bit of terminator guys in the area. They are helpful and can help you learn about your new car.

Sorry about the back to back to back posts..

But I purchased a cobra that did the same thing, would hesitate under load. Took it straight to Brent the day I bought it and had him tune/look over it.

Needed new plugs and a tune.

Get tr6 plugs. Gap them to tuners suggestions. Probably .032 with that set up. Get it tuned.

Any fuel mods done? BAP in the trunk?

I bought it from a dealer in Georgia. I'm still finding things that were done to it, but there is nothing in the trunk. I'll look under the car again, last time I was caught up in the ridiculousness of the exhaust to really notice much else.

I wasn't really looking for a modified car like this. I wouldn't even mind putting the stock upper and lower back on, but I don't know yet.

What color are the factory injectors? Mine are yellow top so not sure of that means they have been upgraded. The plenum and throttle body are polished but I don't see any markings on them that they are aftermarket.

I really wish I could find the guy who owned it before so I could find out what is done to the car. There could be internal work done and I will never know.

Thanks for the help.

Plenty of folks here with gobs more knowledge than me, but reading your symptoms and seeing some pics of the car has made me uneasy.

Other things for consideration that may or may not be noteworthy (I'm not an expert here):
-I'd take a peek in the cylinders while you're swapping plugs just for the peace of mind.
-Overall, she seems a little dirty. It's clear she's been around a lot of moisture given all the rusty bolts, exhaust, and various other parts/pieces. The aftermarket pulleys don't even have any shine left to them. Lack of basic TLC perhaps.
-Speaking of pulleys, who does a blower pulley, crank pulley, injectors, SBTB, goes through the arduous task of long tubes, and (from the looks of it) still runs the stock heat exchanger?
-And speaking of exhaust work, is that a "custom" turn down/dump while still retaining the rest of the tailpipe? It all feels fishy and half-assed to me.

I don't mean to sound all doom and gloom over here or to rank on the car. Just noticed a few things that made me scratch my head and couldn't keep it to myself.

You basically said everything I was thinking. I feel like they left the tail pipes for the look but put in dumps. I have a BBK catted midpipe coming for the long tubes and a magnaflow catback coming as well. Any idea what injectors are yellow topped? And I was looking at plenums and TB's to compare this morning and what I have looks just like the Accufab. When I pull the plugs this weekend I will use a borescope to check the pistons. I've been driving the car for a few days now and it only starts to backfire and miss at full throttle. Otherwise it pulls hard at part or 3/4 throttle. It idles smooth but with the exhaust the way it is it is hard to hear much of anything when moving. There is a pulley/belt chirp that vlive narrowed down to the idler above the tensioner so I might as well replace all idlers. I will use a micrometer to measure the upper, lower, and aux idler pulley so I can see what I have. Thanks for the help.

OP don't get down on the car. Give it some good TLC, a little goes along way.

I'd suggest like others have mentioned and get it tuned before anymore pulls are made, stay out of boost until then.

Did you pull the trunk liner on the drivers side to see if there is any upgraded fuel components, such as a boost-a-pump? That's where I had mine.

I'll check there, thanks.

If the injectors aren't stock and you're running a stock tune it'll cause all kinds of issues. Same with the MAF. After a couple cars my son and his friends have brought by I've given up trying to figure out what previous owners were thinking. I would do as suggested as far as looking it over then contact a good tuner. I'm sure you'll be happy in the end.
