Took a gt500 home from work (dealership). Gotta say I’m absolutely in love with it. Cobra makes it feel slow but man is it sneaky fast and refined.

we've got a handful of them at our shop currently. I consider them to be cobras basically to me its just a continuance of the 03/04 cobra if you think about it. They are basically the same cars to me interchangeable really. If I had to choose between them I would pick the one that had cleaner paint lol.

I agree I look at it the same way. I like how the irs acts on the street better. It’s crazy my 03 instills more confidence when sliding all over the road.

Yes! I have 2 IRS Stangs (Terminator and 00R). They are MUCH more confidence inspiring than my SRA 750hp 2011 GT500. I do like the power of my Shelby, but I prefer driving my R... night and day difference. The combination of power, IRS and modern tech in the 2020 is going to be nuts!

So, Goose, when do you get your 2020 GT-500?

I agree that the 2020 GT-500 combination of power, IRS and modern tech is going to be over the top!

I have a build date of Oct 8th... I’m guessing ~ 4 weeks after that for delivery. I’ll be in Vegas for the Track Tour event. My luck is it will show up then.

Can you expand more on your statement? Is your Cobra modified? I'm just trying to understand how a 390HP Cobra can make a 600HP car "feel" slow. I don't plan on selling my Cobra, but if I were to buy another Mustang it would be a 13/14 GT500.

Just curious about your experience/thought process. Thank you.

This. He must have a monster of a Cobra. Or just didn't really push the '14.
My SB Vert is 605 to the tire, but still won't peel your face like my '13 did when it was stock.
Perception of speed/torque? Yes it's different because the 13/14 is heavier & much smoother.

Speaking from my arm chair,

In stock form agree 100%, that a Shelby ('11-'12) feels like an unbalanced slow slug compared to say a modded Cobra with upgraded everything, IRS bushings, VMP, Whipple etc.

Fast forward, upgrade an '11-'14 Shelby to 700/730rwhp, 650+rwtq do a few rear end upgrades and suspension things, R888's add in 3:73 gears, there is no comparison to which will "peel a face better". I cannot speak about a monster built Cobra.

I'll give up the IRS for a solid axle. It was a little annoying at first coming off two Cobras, and then into a SRA. But, some changes made it feel much better.

And that's just my opinion and my money spent to have that first hand experience. Confidence in my Shelby, is not an issue.

lol, not really. Your employer doesn't conduct random drug testing do they?

Your 750 HP GT500 that actually puts down about 645-650rwhp?
The Cobras are of course more confidence inspiring because your on stock power levels as compared to a 750HP SRA ….cough, clear throat, ......Shelby.

An '11-'12 5.4L was a slug and no face peeling was taking place when it was stock vs 650 in my Cobra.
The '13/'14s I drove in stock form were a different story. I agree with your statement.

It was a little less than that the one time I ran it on a dyno on a hot summer day in TX.

Yes, I am comparing a 750hp SRA GT500 to 2 Cobras with IRS that have 390 and 385hp. I do have Toyo R888s on my Shelby as well as LCAs and a watts link. Don’t get me wrong, the Shelby is a hoot and I do enjoy the heck out of it... the Cobra R is just a different beast. The suspension is stout. The car feels very much connected to the road and there is never a doubt about what it is doing or where it is going. Yes, the different power levels play into that, but the SRA vs. the IRS is very noticeable. The ass-end of an IRS car is very settled/well behaved. My Shelby ass-end is a little wild and can hop to the side even with the watts link. I much prefer the feel of an IRS.

I agree. Please don't take offense to my comment, which it appears you didn't. Lol
We have spoken throughout the years, much respect for you, your collection and your insights. Lol, I just couldn't let that one go w/o mentioning.

I think it's like everyone mentions about the newer cars being more refined. The Cobras are more like a machine gunner in the way they try to kill you. The newer cars are more like assassins. At least that's how I look at it. I drove my cousin in law's car thinking it wasn't that fast. That thing would (and did) walk all over my car while sitting in the cooled seats.

That's odd that a 600rwhp cobra feels slower than a 600rwhp gt500. What blower is on the cobra? A big blower on gas could maybe do that, where the tvs is really spinning on the gt500.

I've considered the jump to a 13-14 gt500 because I could have 700rwhp on gasoline where I need e85 to do the same thing on my 03. The downside is the stock short block limits power on the gt500, and let's face it a terminator is still really fun to drive. If only I had room for a 4th car.

I'll be hoping with you that it shows up just before or just after the Track Tour event. Oh, and we expect pics on arrival. LOL. A "group" shot would be great! ;)

Don't forget the extra weight the GT500 is lugging around as well. If both cars are making equal power the GT500 is going to be slower just because the weight difference.

At least on paper. I've never driven a GT500 personally.

Cobra has 2.3 Whipple. Plenty of power but, the speed just came on quicker with then then-stock '13. To add, the Cobra would occasionally wheel hop so I'd not stay in it too long.
The Shelby is just point & shoot. 315 Toyo on an 11.75 wheel allows WOT with ease, no spin even after modding to 675 RWHP.
But, don't get me wrong. No disrespect for the Terminator. I have two and love them both.
Just two completely different cars Terminator vs Shelby.
I see you have a streetrod. That's my next "want". I've been researching for awhile now..
