Hopefully not a re-post, but forgive me if it is.

Say what you will about Bugatti's being a one trick pony, this is seriously impressive.

I'd be scared to death to be driving that thing at 300mph. Imagine the strength in those tires.

I disagree. This isn't a production car.

Bugatti has broken the 300mph barrier
  • Longer by 25cm
  • Reduced rear cross section
  • Rear wing now fixed and more recessed
  • Added power
  • No passenger seat
  • Roll cage added

That's like Ford taking a Mustang, tossing in a cobra jet engine, custom front and rear bumpers, custom aero pieces, no interior, adding a roll cage, and then attempting to impress people with a top speed run. NO!

Back in the 80's it was Porsche vs Ferrari, with production cars.

Koenigsegg still holds the record and the "how" behind their record is 10 times more impressive that this. Plus, they'll hit 300 with the Jesko in production form, and THAT will be impressive.
You make a good and valid point, Kevin. Still impressive to see this Bugatti hit 300, of course, but Koenigsegg breaking 300 with a production vehicle would be more impressive.

I’d venture to say it’s only a matter of time before the mods done to this car are offered on a special edition Chiron. Possible Chiron SS?

Well that was a real yawner of a video. The footage is atrocious. Set up GoPros and show us what 250, 275 and 300mph look like without any editing.

This 12 year old video of 219mph is way more exhilarating

Andy Wallace has some experience at that track. How about 240..... but 20 (!!) years ago... His comments are great.

What a car! To achieve those kinds of speeds with only 62X hp is simply astounding, and a testament to the cars overall level of design and engineering.

The advantage of Bugatti vs all the top speed monster is access to that test track, if only Koenigsegg had access to that test track.

Didn't Koenigsegg go like 270-280 in a customers production car on the street, out near Vegas? that's more impressive IMO.

Even more crazy is how it went down from what I read/heard. Customer got the car delivered, and called up Christian and said something about wanting to do a top speed run. "There's no track we can do that one." So the customer rented a several mile strip of public highway. You know, like they would for filming a movie. Christian roughly said, ON MY WAY, but then thought about the tires, so he called up Michelin who said they would be there too. And there you go, several reps from Koenigsegg, the founder himself, their test driver, some reps from Michelin, a handful of friends, someone from Guinness, and a 100% unprepped, Nevada highway.

Plus then the same day, on the same tires, they beat Bugatti's record for 0-400km-0

I wonder if there's been any cheeseburgers on the ISS...
Hardly considering you can eat a cheeseburger on an airplane traveling at 400-500 mph
Fastest ground based cheeseburger. IMHO that’s the real metric as only the stupid rich get to experience the air cheeseburger. I’m not even sure astronauts want a space based dehydrated “cheeseburger”.
