If you read Steve's article at Hot Rod you see mention that the test cars were consuming tires at the rate of four per hour. I hope that with a track optimized alignment, read: more negative camber, that one can reduce the propensity for this thing to devour some fairly expensive shoes so quickly. And be even faster.

Nick, which version would this be?

That is a GTS. Ralph still has it.

While that may be a world record lap, an unobjective observer can honestly say there’s 2 seconds to be shaved from that lap time. A tenth here and 2 tenths there is pretty easy to see if you watch the lap 5-6 times or have run it a lot.

I’m not discrediting the lap at all, I’m sure the driver knows he can pull another 2 seconds out in a perfect run.

•just the braking on the very first turn experiences sway during downshifts
•many of the corners aren’t take. Out to the mid point of the curbing
•he rides the limited of 2nd on the 3rd fairway
•shift speed all around was good but can be faster

Again not talking shit, but saying the gt500 keeps up with the acr because of this particular track is a reach imo. While the gt500 is seemingly very good, this run in the viper imo is leaving about 3-5% on the table.

I want to see Randy phobsts at Laguna Seca run the acr and gt500 tp carbon both same day etc. I expect a 2 second gap.

It also looks like a pretty crappy track surface with limited curbing. That track isn't going to be representative to a VIR or Laguna Seca.

@13COBRA, what kind of time do you think you could shave in your viper with a properly setup and geared dct as well as mag shocks?

When I watch the viper lap of 1:22.0, I get the impression that track is tougher than many and unsettles a car.

I think the magic in the GT500 is the same magic we saw in 2008 with the r35 gtr being that it had great power/torque for the time, and lots of digital grip to combat slip/unsettling road conditions (awd/torque manipulating diffs/active yaw control/etc)

It’s like you said, pull 500lbs out of this gt500 and it’ll be a ****ing monster

The magic with the R35 GTR when it came out was AWD with all the other gizmos that made it unearthly when it came to handling and setting records for a car ONLY with 485hp at the time with the weight attached.

New GT500 doesn't have AWD so it's getting it done with more hp even with the weight, however I will wait for real test results when they are available (hey, it's only been 8+ months since the official reveal so waiting what???? Probably another 2+ months or more before the proper people get their hands on a car to actually drive and test). Watching a youtube vid and clicking your stopwatch when you think the car crossed a fixed point is not an accurate measure of lap times.

Let's get real here, it easy to just say "pull 500lbs. out of the car" and it'll be a blanking monster...……...true to a point but honestly, where do you think there's 500 lbs. to yank out of this car? Most people, if they just spent over $100-120k for a CFTP car do you think they're gonna just start pulling bumper rebars, seats, AC, radio, and whatever else to yank to lose 500 lbs???? I don't think so, most people probably can't even lose 50-100lbs. out of the car or even lose 20-30lbs. out of their own weight by exercising.

BTW, the 4225 weight announcement I believe they've said was for the base car, so did they ever reveal what the weight is for the CFTP car? Just for knowledge sake, a fully fuelled 19 ZTK ZR1 car is 3615lbs.

M5 is a sports sedan, different type of car even if it has killer performance credentials. That's the car for major autobahn hauling.

I love it.

"Its not going to touch any of these cars!!!"

Hey, it just rocked the course record, bwhich was held by that car btw

" NO! It doesnt count! It won't beat every car at every track. Its too heavy, it doesnt have awd. The track was repaved, thats why it went so fast"

Actually the track was repaved in 2010

" That just means there was more rubber laid down from when the viper ran! The And the Zr1 drivers are still learning"

The Gt500 isnt even in production yet, doesnt that mean the gt500 drivers are still learning?

I no longer wonder why svtp has the same 10 people posting.

Ill check back in laterwhen there is some more info to watch the walls close in on the poors and haters

Ya know when GM was testing at our track with the 1LE the gm test driver was running 2:12's all day, the next morning when Randy P showed up and the track was cool they got the car down to a 2:10.90. How are you so confident in just rolling with YES the gt500 100% beat the ACR!!! just look at the lap time list that the ACR has set. Do you believe the new 500 is going to set a 1:28 at laguna and Road atlanta? You know it did a 2.40 flat at VIR.... Now if you think about it. Why.... Would the ACR be slower at a tighter more technical course like Grattan? If you can reply with some logic instead of calling me a poor hater ill be very impressed.

I wish I could help you understand the importance of different days and drivers but I know you'll ignore it and believe what you want to believe. Have at it..

Hell we dont even have the slightest clue if ford was testing on oem tires and setup in that video. Just dont jump to conclusions because it does not add up

Lol. It’s not hard to get within .25 second pausing a video on YouTube of a car running a lap bud. We don’t need stop watches for that.

Seeing that the mustang ran the circuit in 1:22 or less, that is a huge indicator of what it can do. Period. End the discussion and admit that is a very fast lap for a ~4225lbs car. Hell let’s say 4175lbs being a carbon car. No one knows the carbon cars weight yet so whatever.

On to pulling weight, it’s easy to pull 500 lbs out of the car if you have the money and will use the car as an expensive track toy. Notice who I tagged. @13COBRA has said himself that he does expensive track toy day runs with friends/associates running really built really expensive cars. Mclaren, lambo, Ferrari etc track toys are what he plays with in his viper. Look up his posts just 2 pages ago. Those viper builds would cost more than many peoples homes.

I tagged him about pulling 500lbs out because 1. He has the means. 2. He has the vision and has stated it before.

Not to be a dick, but what are you trying to put on blast from my post? I’d humor the idea that I could try to appease your reading disposition but honestly I don’t care.

Lastly regarding the magic of the gtr in 2008, it was big power for the times. Z06 made 505 and zr1 in 2010 made 638hp. 485 and later 565 was about as much as you got back then. The veyron only made 1001hp in 05-08. The vetesse was 1200. Today the Chiron makes 1500hp as the base car.

A 2008 mustang gt made 300hp. A gt500 made 500hp. The gtr at 485hp was high for the time. A 911 turbo made 480hp in 2008. Don’t shrug off my analogy about good power and digital grip being the key to the gtr, and later the gtr nismo added braking and downforce improvements followed by hp. Digital grip can come from smart awd, or in the gt500’s case, compute designed and honed carbon fiber wheels riding on custom compute aided design tires and most importantly, computer designed downforce and magnetic digital shocks coupled with driving modes, again digitally produced and established via computer aided programming, sampling, and engineering. Yes the parts are physical, but the entire process was greatly digitally designed, and real world tested. Grip in the gtr is far better than in say a fusion sport awd because it’s not the awd that is important, it’s the setup, calibration, efficiency, and type of honing and programming done with the awd system. A 1992 Subaru Legacy also has awd. A gtr it is not. Nissan has been doing lots of digital and mechanical engineering to make their awd skyline systems very impressive and capable. Ford has applied that level of digital and mechanical prowess to designing this gt500 and is also trying to slot a nice solid power plant in. That was my point.

But anyways it’s whatever, I just find it funny you called me out on 3-4 things that you had no reason to.

Im pretty sure you have read, as you partook, in the conversation about betting $ on track times from a magazine, and I was adamant about same day same conditions/not using so many variables ( odd that Cman decided to stay away from this topic so much now too...).

So please stop trying to win an argument nobody is arguing, or attempting to achieve forum superiority. You cant. Whats fantastic, is the fact that , in this case, the gt500 CLEARLY lapped on par with the course record holder, and you are saying that is somehow insignificant, when last week, its weight meant it could barely take a 1LE, its competitor, yet its somehow duking it out with something WAY above its class.

Answer the question, do you believe the gt500 will beat the ACR's old official lap times at VIR, Laguna and road Atlanta? Saying the gt500 is not beating an ACR is not putting down the 500 btw... Id bet if the zl1 1le went to Grattan with a factory team effort it would be within 1 second of that time as well.

You’re smoking crack if you think a 500 will beat a gen V ACR at any sort of equal comparison. And that’s not bashing the 500 either. The ACR is a damn race car with a license plate. Not a 2+ ton GT type car (still capable of exceptional performance) with a thermo nuclear heat generator sitting between it’s valley.

As nice and potent as the GT500 is, I doubt it will be setting track records across the country like the ACR has done. Respectable, even on a cost/performance basis it will be.

This is actually one of the main benefits of the dct. While obviously lacking in engagement, it getainly yields itself to repeatability and consistency. They will always outperform a true manual. For most of us, that does not matter much. However, there will always be people that want to gauge performance by a second on "x" track. I have not been a fan of that. I am more of a buy what you like and drive it. The rest is just noise.

Most tracks the ACR will be out front all things equal. This goes for the c7z06 as well. It is damn impressive what Ford has done specially if there is no cooling issues on hot laps.
For the ACR to still hold track records what is it almost 5 years later is a testament to the car. Unbelievable!

I assume when Chris Winkler set that track record at Grattan and 10 other tracks he just happened to be passing by those tracks and decided to pop in for an impromptu lap or two.

You aware that the ACR has posted a 4 seconds faster lap than the C7ZR1@ laguna with the same driver in a real test? And that the Gt500 will be around the same time as a C7z06?

Also, that Im not knocking the gt500 in ANY sense? You are so defensive and mentally dense its hilarious. You also clearly have zero road course understanding. May as well keep on being a professional roll racer

Bruh. He has a fast Honda. You can’t talk to him like that!
