Why is this in the 2020 GT500 section though? Throw it in another section.

Now that the 500 goes north of $100K, I’d say in the performance per dollar segment.

Sure, but then by that logic it's every car over $100k, so is the new Audi RS6 a failure compared to the Z06? A BMW X5M? There are tons of cars in this day and age that are north of $100k, and they each compete on, and in, different categories, so even if the Z06 wins in some categories it is sorely losing in others.
When you're talking mid engine vs front engine, 2 seats vs 4 seats, optioned out to over 100k vs starting over 100k... unless literally the only thing you're shopping on is HP, then no, they're not competitors.

The RS6 and X5M focus on luxury with a side of performance. The z06 and 500 sole purpose is performance. The 500 now also aims to bring handling (like the z06).

The 500 used to be a muscle car, mainly a straight line performer. Bang for the buck car. It tossed bang for buck and straight line performance to the side and now aims to compete as a sports car (handling car) with an exorbitant price. It now competes with Z06.

Sure, but i'd expect the Z06 to come in around $150k? If the GT500 comes in at like $100 - 120k (which yes, is a ton of money), you're still talking a pretty big price difference. That's the same thing as saying a $30k Miata competes with a $60k corvette. Yes, they both have the same goal, but are not at all competition for one another. At the end of the day, perhaps we can just agree to disagree until we get some actual numbers on either of these vehicles.

I hear ya. I don’t think the Z06 will be that high. If it follows the same trend as the base car, the z06 should stay in the same price range as the c7z.

Like you said, all speculation until those figures are released.

The c8z will total the GT500, I'd suspect a C8GS will be good competition (road course) for a gt500 for a similar price

Gt500 and z06 will play different songs and entertainment for the same dollar.

I don’t see a z06 starting much higher than $85k. Considering the gt500 is starting at $74k, the value argument doesn’t work well.

When an 03 cobra was $32k and a z06 was $54k, I got it. A $500 pulley, filter and tuner took an 03 cobra to bottom 12’s with a driver which is where a z06 was.

Today, so many people have $50-100k+ jobs that Ford and Chevy can build a $35k mustang or camaro that runs high 11’s, and then go on to build $60-75k mustangs and Camaros that run 11’s and 10’s.

So what is the corvette left to do? They went inexpensive at launch with the mid engine c8 so they can keep the spark alive and sell about 50,000 cars again like the c7 first year or so did, but ultimately it’ll turn out how the gtr skyline r35 did here in the states. Those started at $70k in 2008 iirc, and crept up year after year to where they now start at $105k.

I don’t blame Chevy or Ford or Dodge.

If you want a 14 to 15 second car, it’s $25k in the form of a base mustang or Camaro. Very similar to what you paid for a ss or gt in 1994-2004 but you also get a lot more car today to go with the straight line.
