2003/04 Rear Spoiler Swap onto 2001 Cobra Trunk

I just picked up a good used 2003/2004 factory rear trunk spoiler to install onto my 2001 Convertible Cobra, and noticed that the 2003/04 spoiler has 4 or 5 studs that look to bolt through the top edge of the trunk. I just pulled the factory 3rd brake light and factory spoiler off of my 2001, and noticed that in the center where the 3rd brake light mounts, is probably a spot where at least 1 or 2 of the studs on the 03/04 spoiler might need to go through.

I know that I could buy an actual 03/04 trunk, but I would prefer to use my current trunk, and wanted to see what others may have done for the same swap?

I will have the front holes filled on my 01 trunk, and am going to have the trunk and new spoiler painted, but I just want to make sure it will mount securely if I can't bolt a couple of the center studs. I am guessing the 03/04 trunk doesn't have the cutout for the 3rd brake light, correct?

I've been googling and trying to see what others have done, but coming up with a lot of irrelevant posts.

Thanks in advance...

I did it 7-8 years ago. You are pulling the 01 brake light. The 2 studs go through the location where your 01 brake light was mounted on the mounting edge from what I remember.

Nice... so there is good support for the spoiler even from my trunk with the 3rd brake light. I was going to just connect the harness from the 03/04 3rd brake light, by cutting and soldering in a factory connector. Any reason I need the whole trunk sub harness from an 03/04 trunk?

Also, do you know, is the factory 03/04 Cobra trunk and our trunk the same, with the 3rd brake light cutout in the trunk, or is it different?

Finally, what did you do, if anything, to retain the trunk light, since the trunk light on the 01 is part of the 3rd brake light?

Thanks

Don't forget the 03/04 spoiler also uses double sided tape to help hold it on. At least mine has some.

I'm sure the decklid themselves are the same. I can't see Ford having a different decklid for the same body.

Agreed, I was thinking that the perimiter will be fine with some good 3M double-sided tape. All in all, should be fine.

If anyone has a pic of the inside of the trunk on an 03/04, I'd like to see how the trunk light is mounted.

Now the last thing is finding a 3rd brake light that isn't $220.... Yikes!

From what I remember, yes. 3m tape is a must.

I just cut my 01 harness and solder in the 03-04 brake light.

99% sure it is the same.

No, I didn’t. Didn’t really see a reason.
